Yes boys and girls, they're baaaaack! Snakes & Arrows hit the shelves on May 1st and I'm in heaven! It is far and away their most sophisticated piece of work yet. It was a 5 year wait since their last album (Vapor Trails), but sooo worth it! For 35 years, Rush has been routinely snubbed by Rolling Stone, the Grammys, and mind-numbing stupidity that is the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame, to name a few... And for 35 years, they have reinvented themselves at every turn. Pardon the digression. I was hoping to incur discussion about this wonderful disc from this great, great band. Here are my first observations about Snakes& Arrows... 1) The artwork is amazing. It always is with these guys... 2) Songs that are jumping out at me (This will change as we go along LOL!): Armor and Sword, Spindrift, The Main Monkey Business, and Malignant Narciccism. 3) You heard it here first: Do not be surprised if The Main Monkey Business or Malignant Narciccism recieve Grammy nominations for best rock instrumental performance. But like I said- routinely snubbed. 4) I'm a drummer with a healthy obsession for All Thing Neil. I'm either going woofie- cookies or at times on this disc I can actually hears Neil's sticks whipping a nanosecond before he hits something. Very cool! BTW I'm hoping for the latter although the former wouldn't be so bad... 5) And speaking of hitting things with sticks, there are also times where it sounds like he is trying to hit the drums 2 inches ~below~ the surface of the head. YEEEHAAA! That's all for now. Pick up a copy, crank it up, and let me (us) know what you think! "One day I fly through a crack in the sky And the next it's falling in on me I can get back on I can get back on" Music by Lee and Lifeson Lyrics by Peart James

It's been a week, and I'm still practically speechless.... My friends would laugh at that. Me. Speechless... Wow! What a show! It was hands down the best Rush show I've ever seen. This was the 18th time I've seen them and I don't know a band more worthy of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame but you know my view on this. ~T~, if you didn't see them last night at the Tweeter Center in Camden, get yourself to the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel tomorrow night! I promise you will love it! RG, I'd be jealous if you get to see Genesis, but with Peter Gabriel??!! (*ripping hair out of head*) I did exactly what you told me to do and just got lost in the magic. I savored every note. Every 32nd note of Natural Science (One of my all-time faves). Every lighting sequence. Every Neil Deal. Everything Geddylicious. Every Alexcellent moment. At one point, Geddy pulled out a cam-corder and had us all yell "HI CANADA!" How cool is that? ~set 1~ Limelight Digital Man Entre Nous Mission Freewill The Main Monkey Business The Larger Bowl (I almost cried!) Secret Touch Circumstances Between the Wheels Dreamline ~intermission~ ~technicolor adjustment if ya know what I mean~ ~set 2~ Far Cry Workin' them Angels (again, almost cried!) Armor and Sword Spindrift The Way the Wind Blows Subdivisions (another all-time fave!) Natural Science (back to back!!!) Witch Hunt Malignant Narcissism ~kick-ass 8 minute drum solo!~ Hope Summertime Blues The Spirit of Radio Tom Sawyer ~encore~ One Little Victory A Passage to Bangkok YYZ If you can't have a good time with that you're just not trying hard enough!! Scooter Trash Rules!!!!! James.

Rock trios rock! ELP, Genesis, Triumph, The Police, Zebra (remember THEM?!) and of course, my Rush. These are off the top of my head which is not an exact science... New(er) school trios: Nirvana, Green Day (Responsible for the exquisite rock opera Jesus of Suburbia), and PUSA. ~T~ I think you should take a closer look at Geddy. The man needs to run around in the shower to get wet! LOL! Go to the Power Windows site. There's a picture of Geddy standing in front of a chalk board. See what I mean? A few months ago at work, Working Man (lol!) was blasting on the XM. Alex's rippin' solo was just about over when I said to the 2 guys that were prepping near me: "If anyone tries to ever tell you that Alex Lifeson is not one of the shreddin'est rock guitarists of all time tell them to f**k off!" One of the guys (29 year old guitar player) said: "Great solo- Alex who...?" The other guy (40 and stuck in the 80's) said: "Holy shit! This is Rush?!" I said "yes- pre-Neil Peart Rush." He was shocked: "There was another drummer?!"

OK , I was sampling the new music on YouTB....I liked Far Cry.It feels like Geddy's voice is almost synthesized, but pleasant in that song. Spindrift.. his voice felt strained, and Geddy looks chubby. I would like a full length instrumental from them. Whenever I see a trio that meshes so well like that it reminds me of EL&P(Emerson Lake and Palmer)...how they "Locked-in" too! I am going to take another listen at the bookstore. Very nice, thanks for the suggestion. ~T~

~T~ I'm glad you're excited! It was the DRUMS! that turned me on to Rush. Then it was the complexity of the music. Then as I got older I was able to wrap my brain around the content of the lyrics. Honestly, when I first heard Geddy's voice, it struck me as a cross between Robert Plant and Donald Duck. But I've since come like it alot. He uses it like an instrument and has world-class control over it. I hope you enjoy Snakes&Arrows and I'm looking foward to hearing what you think! James

Right on, robtest! They were my very first concert. The Grace Under Pressure tour. Seems like a billion years ago, eh? Like so many before me, Moving Pictures had me at Hello. I still have that record! At the time (at least in my head lol!), I had it all figured out. I was going to be the next catcher for the Boston Red Sox. One song changed that: The world is the world is Love and life are deep Maybe as his eyes are wide Thanks for the youtube tip. I've seen some interesting Rush tributes there. That is where I learned that YYZ is featured in that "Guitar Hero" video game! The last time I saw them live (for the 16th time) was the Vapor Trails tour. The boys had finished playing Natural Science (one of my all time faves!) and took a break. I left the shed (gotta love outdoor venues) to wander for a few minutes when I noticed something. People my age were at that concert ~with their children~ Hold Your Fire but pass the torch!

Cool, they were always one of my favorite bands. They was one of my first concerts, and it kinda scares me that was about 3 decades ago. :o) BTW, if you look on youtube, you can find a couple videos from the new album.

~James~, REALLY? I am excited I was always a RUSH fan. Their music was always complex...I enjoyed the instrumental moreso than the voice...but the words made sense to me. Lately, I have been into BLUR. I will check out ~Snakes and Arrows~ the next time I am out and let you know what I think. Thanks for the UPDATE! ~T~
