GenieK: Elvis song question! 137 Views 09/04/08
Hiya GenieK! My sister and I heard an old Pat Boone song, "Don't Forbid Me" and I said, "Oh I like this but I like Elvis's version better." She told me that Elvis never actually recorded this song... ...I know he had a "session" with other artists (or whatever it was) and he sang it informally, but did he ever actually record it and if so, what album is it on? I figured if anyone could tell me, you could! lol. *** *** *** *** *** Don't forbid me to hold you tight a-darlin', don't-a forbid me to hold you tight Let me hold you in my lovin' arms 'cause it's cold and I can keep you warm a-don't-a forbid me to kiss your lips a-darlin' don't-a forbid me to kiss your lips Let me kiss you please, baby, please 'cause it's cold and your lips might freeze Well, there's a strong West wind a-blowin' And there's a big blue moon above And, pretty baby, I've been knowin' You need some heart-warmin' love So don't-a forbid me to talk sweet talk Darlin' don't-a forbid me to talk sweet talk Let me fill your little heart with fire 'cause it's cold, so don't forbid my desire It's so cold (it's so cold) So don't forbid-a my desire (Don't forbid my desire

Alarms, Showers, and Chocolate Ice Cream 33 Views 12/15/07
From my diary as a mother of a five year old (Madeline aka Maemae)and a six year old (Sophia): Dec. 7, 2007 This morning found the girls and I abed well after the alarm had gone off. Not that it's MY fault since I was having such a wonderful dream of ... ok, well, I don't remember, but it must have been great because I don't usually forget to get out of bed. The girls woke to their usual chipper energetic selves (oh, the horror...chipper first thing in the morning) as I hopped into the shower. The hot water was wonderful and I was lulled back into a sleeping stupor. Why is that one ever gets OUT of the shower? Oh, right. The blast of cold water. Right. Well, it certainly woke me up and threw me out into reality.... ...where, I might add, I found my youngest chipper child happily running around with chocolate smeared all over her chipper little face, and where I found Sophia running around, not so chipper now, in full tattle tell mode. It seems that Little Miss Maemae had decided to ignore my flat refusal to have ice cream for breakfast. It seems she went and took several bites--without the use of a spoon, by the way--and then put the ice cream away. She then proceeded to pretend she did not in any way whatsoever sneak ice cream while I was showering. Sophia felt it necessary to explain, in detail, every step her sister took to complete this act of frozen dairy theft. As if I could miss the chocolate on Mae's face? Because Sophia is an advocate of the belief that EVERYTHING has to be FAIR and EQUAL, she then insisted that she be allowed to have an equal number of bites too. Poor Mae, to have a sister with such watchful eyes, never to get away with anything. Poor, poor girl. lol. Not quite. I'm sure she gets away with some things. I know they get in cahoots with each other too as all siblings do at one point or another. The rest of our morning went well and it was the same old stuff. "Sophia, put your shoes on honey, it's time to get going." "Wherrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrre are they? I can't fiiiiiind them!" "They're right there on the floor, right behind you." "Uh, WHERE mom? They're not there, I already looked!" "Sigh. Right behind your foot dear." "Oh, I see them. I TOLD you!" "mmmm hmmm" (tongue biting and eye rolling on my part) ***** "Maemae, get dressed please." "I will when this is over." (talking about Super Why on PBS) "Get your clothes on while you are watching tv or no tv." "Ok momma." I look a few minutes later to see her still unclothed. "Mae, I told you to get dressed." "Momma! I. Am. Getting. Dressed!!" and she shows me that one of her feet is just barely inserted into her pants. Practically a toe. Yep,that is getting dressed, all right. ******* Normal, normal stuff. Some days get mixed up a bit when in the midst of a conversation they start asking questions from out of nowhere. Right now, questions are Christmas related. "Momma, can Santa see us all the time like God?" "Yes, honey, he can. That's how he knows who's being naughty and who's being nice." "But can he see us in the BATH TUB?" "Uh, I'm sure he can but he doesn't because that would be naughty and Santa is nice." "Oh. Does he see us when we are GETTING DRESSED and does he see our UNDIES? Does he WATCH us go POTTY???" Oh for goodness sakes. I answer that Santa has a magic ball and when he says someone's name, he can see whatever that person is doing so long as that person is in no way naked or half naked, or using the bathroom...etc. They still had questions about the whole Santa seeing us thing. Good gawd, the questions never stop do they. We head out the door whereupon we get stuck because Sophia is wearing her coat inside out and can't get it zipped, Maddie forgot her lunch box, and I forgot to put on my shoes. We finally make it to the car and into the car where they immediately argue over what station to listen to. I turn off the radio but they don't even notice. Thankfully, the trip to school takes less than three minutes. Once there, Madeline doesn't want to get out and pouts. When I asked her why she didn't want to get out, she said because some boys told her that her haircut made her look like a boy! Oh those rotten little snot bags! I told her not to listen to those little boys who don't know what they are talking about. Sophia leans over and says, "Oh Maemae. I think you are sooooo cute. You are cute as a bug and I like your hair!" She gives Mae a hug while Mae squirms and yells about not wanting a hug (per usual). How sweet. So, pretty much a good start to our day. How's yours? Madeline, the short haired, chipper ice cream eater (sneaker). Sophia, tattle tell extraordinaire and sister cheerer-upper. Mom, the shower loving, alarm hating one.

Choices: Life and Death? 77 Views 10/09/07
There are some who hold with the beliefs that we each choose our lives (when we are still in the spirit and not yet born to earthly bodies). Following this thought through, it then stems to reason that we also choose our deaths. My question is this: is everything planned before our spirits are born into earthly bodies...is our death preordained? Or perhaps, our spirit decides when it is ready to go back "home" depending on what we have learned, experienced, etc. while here on earth. When our spirit decides it's fulfilled it's purpose here, it decides "time to go" ?? Am I making any sort of sense? What do you guys think? (and by "guys" I mean everyone)

Communication 47 Views 09/18/07
I found this article interesting...here is a bit of it... People are always communicating, verbally and non-verbally. Research shows that only 7% of the meaning of our communication is through words. The rest of the communication process takes place through body language, tone of voice and the various signals words cannot convey. That's means that 93% of what we communicate is not from our words!! If we communicate a message and it is received by a person in a way other than what we intended than we did not communicate effectively. To be highly effective at communicating a person has to be sensitive enough to understand as to how his communication is being received and processed. The communicator should be sensitive to eye movements, postural and gestural complexes, skin colour, muscle tension, breathing rate and position to understand the quality of how their communication is being received. If the outcome of any communication is not what was intended, then you have to change the way you are communicating the message until the message is received in the way you want it to be. That's effective communication!

Destination or Journey? 11 Views 09/14/07
Quite awhile ago we had a blog about whether it was the destination or the journey which was the most important. If you posted to that blog, have your opinions changed since then? If you didn't post or you are new, what do you think? Is it the destination or the journey itself which has more impact in life? If you reach your destination, does how you got there matter? Does it even matter if you ever reach your destination? Let's here it guys and gals.

Kids are so funny! 116 Views 09/13/07
I pick my children up at school everyday since we live two blocks away. When we pick up our children, we have to wait in our cars and as we get closer to the waiting area, the teachers walk the children out to us. Some of the parents park a distance away and walk up to get their children. Everyday now for this week, I've been early and waiting in the car line. This mom and her son walk by at the same time each day and the boy looks at me whenever they pass by. He wastes no opportunity to make funny faces at me! He's so cute, about six or seven. I immediately made a face back at him. He seemed to think this was fun. His mom pulled him on by and never noticed this face making. The next day, he saw me and again, he made a face, more exaggerated this time. So, I did too. The next day, he added body twitching to his face making! He is soooo funny. I don't know if he does this with other parents who are waiting but it's fun for him and I any way. His mom never seems to notice, even when his little shoulders are jerking and twiching. It makes me laugh and I look forward to this bit of mischief tomorrow.

Voice Changes 32 Views 08/31/07
I'm listening to Elvis...and noticing that his voice is so different from earlier music to later music. I was just wondering why his later music was so different though. His voice is much deeper, still Elvis, just lower. Is this common with singers? Or is it a result of lifestyle? I haven't noticed so much with others but I haven't really paid attention.

Does Anyone Else Feel Like a Boob? 129 Views 08/31/07
Sometimes I am not nearly as sophisticated as I would want to be. Many times, I end up embarrassing myself in funny ways (or at least I can laugh about them) sometimes through no fault of my own (like Cassie's hand prints on her shirt type things), but mostly my own. I make dating faux pas, I blunder, I flounder. I say odd things at odd moments... I just read this book and the main character was similiar in many ways to me. There was a scene where she was flirting with a greek man, using food as the flirting tool. She ends up biting down on a hard olive pit, ends up choking but no one knows. She drops her plate and the man she's flirting with throws down his plate and yells "Opa!" and then all the greek men do this. The men start dancing. The scene goes on with some more misunderstandings. This has not happened to me but it sounded like something that WOULD happen to me if I were trying to be sexy with food. Does anyone else ever feel like a boob in the dating world or the world in general? lol

The Definition of Dating 89 Views 08/14/07
I have always had a set idea in my mind of what dating was. Though it was rather egocentric of me, I never questioned that anyone else had any other definition of dating until I went out with Don. For me, the stages of a relationship (dating wise) is as follows: 1.dating: there are no committments and no rules. You can see as many people as you want and may sleep with whomever you choose. 2.Exclusivity: you and someone spark a deeper interest in each other and there is a MUTUAL agreement to stop dating or sleeping with anyone else. An implied committment to see where the relationship leads. 3.BF/GF: The arrangement is working out. An emotional attachment formed. You make this deeper committment to each other. 4.Engagement: speaks for itself 5.Marriage: ditto. Living together could be at stage three or four. One of my first eye openers to the fact that others have seperate ideas from my own came at 19 shortly after moving to Colorado. I had not had much dating experience at this point but found a treasure of men there in Steamboat Springs! I began dating this man, Don. I was not dating anyone else at the time (no reason, I just happened to not be seeing anyone else). Don and I called each other nearly every day and spoke for extended periods of time, we saw each other several weekends and here and there during the week. We had never discussed our relationship or dating status. Then came fewer calls from Don. My calls were seemingly rushed to an end. My offer to go out Friday night was turned down. Monday was an aburpt phone conversation. Ah, so here was the "brush off"...I figured Don wasn't interested anymore and I was determined not to be one of those clueless girls who didn't take the hint. I went out dancing, met a new guy and began dating him. Don saw us out and spread rumors that I didn't have the decency to break up with him before hooking up with someone else! I didn't even know he thought us bf/gf. Lack...

Things To Ponder 80 Views 07/17/07
Can you cry under water? How important does a person have to be before they are considered assassinated instead of just murdered? If money doesn't grow on trees then why do banks have branches? Since bread is square, then why is sandwich meat round? Why do you have to "put your two cents in"... but it's only a "penny for your thoughts"? Where's that extra penny going to? Once you're in heaven, do you get stuck wearing the clothes you were buried in for eternity? Why does a round pizza come in a square box? What disease did cured ham actually have? How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage? Why is it that people say they "slept like a baby" when babies wake up like every two hours? If a deaf person has to go to court, is it still called a hearing? If you drink Pepsi at work in the Coke factory, will they fire you? Why are you IN a movie, but you're ON TV? Why do people pay to go up tall buildings and then put money in binoculars to look at things on the ground? How come we choose from just two people for President and fifty for Miss America? Why do doctors leave the room while you change? They're going to see you naked anyway. If a 911 operator has a heart attack, whom does he/she call? Why is "bra" singular and "panties" plural? Do illiterate people get the full effect of Alphabet soup? Who was the first person to look at a cow and say, "I think I'll squeeze these dangly things here, and drink whatever comes out!" Why do toasters always have a setting that burns the toast to a horrible crisp, which no decent human being would eat? Why is there a light in the fridge and not in the freezer? When your photo is taken for your driver's license, why do they tell you to smile? If you are stopped by the police and asked for your license, are you going to be smiling?
