I was just wondering who would click on this blog, I am trying to get some leads. I do this about every year but it hasn't worked very well for me so far, but neither has anything else I have tried. btw Bill always pays me $10 for leads, so that is another reason for the post.
If you have something to confess, go ahead, I am listening. lol

Actually Santa and I have never been able to agree on what being "good" is.. I think Santa might be a Democrat or something even worse..... It's time to elect a new Santa, one that listens to me....lol

The "FAT MAN" told me you were NOT good this year.... But luckily for you, he passed out as we flew above your house! (That jolly man cannot hold his eggnog!!) I'll have you know, I saved you from 3 bags of coal and one cart of "fools gold!"
Now behave yourself this year..... Santa is on a mission! ;)
HAPPY NEW YEAR~~~~
(Anybody recall that commercial where the little boy is writing Santa? Starts out with something like, "I've been excellent this year!" Then he has to scratch the word and put another word in it like good, then scratches that word out and puts something like, I was "okay".. )
I think that kid may be related to WWWW12345.. LOLOL...

WWWW~ I grew up in NYS and we always had a giant garden. My mother used to can bottles and bottles of dill pickles. We grew our own dill; all kinds of berries, rubarb, corn, squash, pumkins, beans, apple orchard, pear trees, Linden tree too. We even had Maple trees and Grandma used to make syrup. We had rabbits, chickens, ducks and geese that also made it into our pots occasionally. It sure was alot of work! Although we didn't have much money, family of five, we always ate well.
Here in Texas, I try to garden. I compost and save the seeds from squash. But alas, the soil is poor; the sun just blisters everything; and the bugs are unrelenting. This year I probably spent $50 on water alone and got maybe 3 Acorn squash, 3 Casaba squash, 1 pint of grape tomatoes and 2 bell peppers. *sigh*
Have you tried the butter squash? I had good luck with it and there is also a squash that grows in Mexico that is suppose to be hardy and a big producer. Forgot the name. I was thinking it might be Casaba, but guess not. I have had great luck with okra. It loves the heat and it doesn't take much water. It produces from spring to fall, every day..I also love to eat okra. Try it .

What I did recently is buy 3 Cu. yards of raw wood chips, a trailer full. The chips the kind the tree trimmers grind up in their little portable tree ginders. I spread it on about a 20ft by 30ft secion of my yard about 6 inches deep. I think it will be rotted enough to use in about 6 months if I add some nitrogen fertilier. The rotting procces uses up nitrogen if you mix in the soil so I left it on top of the soil. I think these tree trimmings will be very rich in minerals. I have a gumbo dark clay in my town so it is rich, but you have to add humus. Mulched leaves and mulched grass are always good for soil.

I started a garden last season, switched out the clay soil in my garden plot to packaged organic soil and have been adding compost. Am adding mulched leaves this fall, it's a work in progress. What do you do to get the right minerals for veggie garden soil ? I've read Milangranite (spl) is good.

No, the old group don't meet but a lot are still in contact with each other on FB. Some do visit individually. ... My news, not much.. I haven't been doing a lot but I have been doing some "prepping". I have been learning to grow veggies, preserve them, produce clean drinkable water, etc. I am concerned that the economy might colapse or get really really bad; the country simply has too much debt. Something has to change drastically but I am not sure what.
The SoTex Readiness Net on FB has some good preppers. I post on there occasionally. Some have some beautiful gardens and are canning tons of food. Other good prepping tips also. I guess I should start a blog on this subject.
