Quoting Dakota35:

I can understand being "slammed" with work.  Last night a 3am, I learned I had just acquired more work with zero pay.  Seems there is a fine line between being grateful and just wanting to cry or jump off a tall building.

Diana, probably the reason you have so much work is that people want to get to the doctor before they have to cancel their new insurance.  I'm just hoping Obama with all his mighty power will extend it for one more year...then I can drop it.

Today, front page AOL "Record Number of Americans renounce Citizenship".  The article speaks of higher taxes causing people to make the decision to leave.  And these of course are the people that are more accomplished and wealthier.  So they leave and take their wealth with them.  Not good for America.  One less person paying taxes into a system that is already broken.

Diana, I'm going to kick you while you are down...or should I say over-worked.  Honestly, over the next few weeks, I'd gladly trade places with you.  Why does BS happen so much to me.  Murphy's law should have been called David's law.  :)  Not really happy, just faking it. :)  :)

Hmmm....Ya know Dak....you can't kick me ...because I'm not down!  The truth is, that I am one lucky and generally happy woman.  Even though my birthday was yesterday and I barely noticed....I have thought many times how priveleged I am to be growing older.  So many are denied that privilege.  Just think about all the people in the Philippines whose lives have been destroyed....due to no fault of their own!!!  And they aren't the only ones...living poor and wretched lives.

Re: my job....the down turn we are experiancing really has nothing to do with Obamacare.  My company is suffering due to Medicare cuts.  My department used to have 18 Reps that serviced our customers thoughout the United States, but after 2 rounds of layoffs and some natural attrition....we're down to 5 people.  I haven't had a raise in 2 years and doubt there will be one this year either.  Never the less, I am still way better off than so many in this world...in this country.

For those individuals that want to leave our country because they don't want to pay taxes?  Well...They're not my kind!

Dak....although I don't know your specific circumstance....I do believe in the power of positive thinking.  When I feel beaten down and not particularly happy....I tell myself to shake if off and act happy.  I put a smile on my face, fluff my hair up....maybe do some dance excercise to my favorite song....and the next thing you know....ol' Jed's a millionaire.....errr....no!  :)) *wink*  I feel better!
I believe feeling happy is a controlable emotion.
Warm wishes!

Hey WWWW,
I have really been trying to fiind time to answer some of your comments.  They are very interesting, but not surprising considering your resident State.  I have been just slammed at work....so busy.  If one more task is placed on my shoulders....my employer tells me to be grateful I have a job and "work smarter".....my hair may just spontaneously combust!  lolol  *wink*  (I am grateful nevertheless)

I just wanted to make a quick comment:  Single Payer is Medicare.....Single Provider is VA Healthcare.  Both just terrible programs....right?

And some people want a single payer health system?  Does that means single provider?  The last thing we would need is a single provider, no escape, ever.

Insurance companies have always been in the business of taking money.  Never in the business of paying out money.

A company I worked for, for a long time, only provided a choice of plans from one carrier.  Despite changing carriers occasionally, they all delayed payment, refused payment on rediculous grounds, fought payments routinely on just about everything.

Only when the my employer started offering us a choice of carriers, did that crap stop.  They almost became resonable.

So Dak...I am assuming you were previously buying insurance on the individual market.  Are you one of the folks that got a termination notice because the policy you purchased was non-compliant with the ACA....also known as junk insurance?

The company I work for provides an ACA compliant plan.  Last year I got a letter from my insurance company that they were providing a rebate to my company because they collected too much profit, in compliance with ACA.  Of course that was not passed down to the workers.  All I know, is that for the last 7 years....every year my premiums and out of pocket contributions have gone up.  My doctor visits and prescriptions go up every year.  Year to date, I have paid $1100 for my insurance...my deductible is $500.

Why aren't you railing against the evil empire?  The Insurance Companies!  Why are they even needed? Their mission is not to provide health care!  It's to make profits.  At least the ACA now makes them spend 80% of their monies on benefits instead of CEO bonuses.  Now they can't kick you off if you get sick.  My son for one, benefited from the law by being able to stay on my insurance until he was able to find a job that provided insurance.  Why do we burden our businesses with the cost of providing health insurance anyway?  That just seems dumb to me.

In my opinion, the worst thing Obama did was use the Republican model for healthcare reform.  He should have followed the Democrats and pushed for 'single payer'.  Oh wait...the Republicans wouldn't have gone for that.  That would be socialism....just like Medicare.  Except it's really not true socialism, unlike the Veterans Administration Healthcare program.

Ask anyone who has M/C or VA healthcare.  While not perfect....they sure don't want to give it up.  Why don't the Republicans stop acting like brats and roll up their sleeves and try to help improve the ACA.  It's not going away....unless you think it will be ok to tell all the families it has helped, that they are no longer going to be able to have insurance.

Hopefully you don't believe quality, affordable healthcare is a privilege.....available only to the privileged.

Diana,

First to answer your question.  NO, my policy was not canceled, nor was one of my friends policy canceled.  I have BlueCross/BlueShield.  I pay out of pocket each month.  I was sent a letter stating that my rates would increase around $80 per month and I would be moved to their "Silver" plan.  When I looked up their silver plan, it has a $2000 deductible.  I have never in my entire life, ever used insurance...despite paying for it.  So, it's got to go.  I'll be better off putting that money in the bank and if I need a doctor then I'll just pay one.  And if it's serious, then I'll just buy insurance, since I've been told I can't be refused under ObamaCare.

Now, I agree the insurance companies are total crooks...especially when it comes to people like me that never use it.  But what about all the people that abuse the system?  I've seen people go to the ER for a small cut.  And how is it that ObamaCare is going to require everyone to have insurance?  How is it that the gov. is going to track these people.  I know many that are totally under the radar and there is no way anyone is going to get a dollar out of them.  They had rather serve jail time.  And I know many that have served jail time rather than pay a few hundred dollar fine.

IMO, if I were a Vet., and I had a choice, I'd rather use private medicine.  I have family members and friends that work in VA hospitals.  It's kind of like UAB in B'ham.  You may get a great doctor, or you may get one that will kill you.  I speak from experience, not just pulling BS out of a hat.

I don't care if the Republicans, Democrats, or Russians came up with ObamaCare...it's crap.  I don't mind the $80 more, but the $2000 deductible is BS.

"Affordable" healthcare and "privilege" those are just spin words used by politicians.  I don't know a single poor person that hasn't gotten all their health requirement covered.  Again, speaking from experience.  My GF that died, despite being a doctor, had allowed her insurance to laps...she got sick and wasn't able to work, thus insurance wasn't paid.  She had half a million dollars in surgeries at UAB and had no insurance.  So it's BS when you use words like "privilege" unless of course you are speaking of Obama, his family, and all the government officials that have exempt themselves from the laws they create.  Now that's PRIVILEGE!  And if the Affordable Care was so great then why would they not be a part of it.  They take advantage of ever tax loophole they create, they make it so it's legal for them to inside trade, but exempt themselves from ObamaCare???  That tells me everything I need to know, and I believe Americans have finally cleared their eyes and see Obama for what he is...a liar.

I have personally turned against all Democrats and most Republicans.  I believe it is time to remove them all and set term limits.  As I stated, Obama's popularity, which was already low, has fallen even lower...and I got this info straight from AOL which is a liberal company...which I also hate...but because I'm damn stupid keep using them.

Last night I watched a TV program on WWII veterans.  Each was telling their story and why they went to war, fought for America.  It was a heart felt program filled with emotions, there were images of acres of crosses where American soldiers had been buried.  Small white crosses all lined up by the thousands.  Men that gave their life to help keep this country safe, keep it special among all countries in the world.  These images flashed across the screen as these surviving WWII vets. spoke.  But what made me the most sad is to think that those men died in vain, defending a country that one day will fall from within, that has been taken over by greedy politicians with nothing more than self serving purpose.  That young American people don't remember why these men fought, as they are to busy texting their friends, or playing angry birds, self absorbed and not caring.  All while the greatest country on Earth in all of history, is allowed to crumble from within...soon we will be undistinguishable from Europe and the rest of the world.  And all that these men fought for will have been lost.  That's what is sad.

Diana, when you are loyal to one group...through right and wrong, that makes you owned.  No one tells me how to think, if a Republican or anyone for that matter, spouts off BS...then that's the way I call it.  If a Democrat tells the truth, and I agree, then I say so.  I was with Obama on using drones to hit our enemies, I just didn't realize he would use those same drones to spy on his own people.  IMO it's time for a total clean up of the government.  Remove every single one, and replace them with America loving, common sense individuals.

@ Diana.. So you think Medicare and VA health benefits are socialism?  Well I paid into medicare since the time it came into being but I decided to not even use it because I don't want those people deciding about my medical care.  It looks like it is a Ponzi scheme to me. So does SS.

And I do think our vets deserve some benefits, including medical benefits. They sure worked for nothing when they served. ( I got $222 per month and I was a officer) . However, I am not using VA medical benefits, not good enough.

Now the issue is: do people who have done nothing for the country and don't work, but could work, deserve free health care?  Not in my eyes.  Exceptions of course for those who are disabled, etc.. who cannot work.

"Why don't the Republicans stop acting like brats and roll up their sleeves and try to help improve the ACA."

Because the Republicians were not allowed to have inputs, or even change the worst parts.  Neither were doctors and other health care professonals.  There certainly are some solutions to better health care but obamcare, drafted by the democrats is certainly not it.  You want proof?   How many have signed up? How many have lost their coverage?

Nice rant Diana, but I see some flaws.  How many people has obancare helped vs how many were hurt?

It seems that you believe in socialism..  How about reading this article.http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/11/10/us-venezuela-economy-idUSBRE9A90G520131110

Do you have a clue about the paperwork cost in providing medical care?.. Well, the cost just went up.

Do you believe that health care is a right?  Should it be free? Who do you think should pay for it?  Should I pay for yours? Should I pay for the health care for people who won't work? Is obamcare hurting businesses.. Is it causing businesses to go to part time workers in order to survive?   In summary, is it going to be good or bad for the country.. all things considered?

Mine started right after I saw that I'd be paying $80 more per month and my deductible raised to $2K.  I'll be paying the penalty...I'm dropping my coverage...thanks Obamacare for now making me uninsured.  There is NO F'ing way Obamacare is going to work in it's current form.  It's the biggest F up of any president in our time and Obama will go down in history as the worst president every.  His approval rating continues to drop.  I now believe the TeaParty will gain more power.  Which I don't have a problem with...BUT, if a man or woman is elected as President, that truly wants to fix things (which will not happen) then that person will be viewed as horrible by the masses.  You see, in order to repair a country that is broken to the point of America, there will have to be sacrifice and pain by the people.  Americans are not willing to do those things...AND, especially when our elected officials are and have always been living high on the hog...passing laws which apply to the people but not to themselves.
