I am sure there is money missing but 2.3 trillion is not believable. That is approx the entire US budget and much more than the military budget.

The War On Waste

On Sept. 10, Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld declared war. Not on foreign terrorists, "the adversary's closer to home. It's the Pentagon bureaucracy," he said.

He said money wasted by the military poses a serious threat.  "In fact, it could be said it's a matter of life and death," he said.

Rumsfeld promised change but the next day – Sept. 11-- the world changed and in the rush to fund the war on terrorism, the war on waste seems to have been forgotten.

Just last week President Bush announced, "my 2003 budget calls for more than $48 billion in new defense spending."

More money for the Pentagon, CBS News Correspondent Vince Gonzales reports, while its own auditors admit the military cannot account for 25 percent of what it spends.

"According to some estimates we cannot track $2.3 trillion in transactions," Rumsfeld admitted.

$2.3 trillion — that's $8,000 for every man, woman and child in America. To understand how the Pentagon can lose track of trillions, consider the case of one military accountant who tried to find out what happened to a mere $300 million.

"We know it's gone. But we don't know what they spent it on," said Jim Minnery, Defense Finance and Accounting Service.

Minnery, a former Marine turned whistle-blower, is risking his job by speaking out for the first time about the millions he noticed were missing from one defense agency's balance sheets. Minnery tried to follow the money trail, even crisscrossing the country looking for records.

"The director looked at me and said 'Why do you care about this stuff?' It took me aback, you know? My supervisor asking me why I care about doing a good job," said Minnery.

He was reassigned and says officials then covered up the problem by just writing it off.

"They have to cover it up," he said. "That's where the corruption comes in. They have to cover up the fact that they can't do the job."

The Pentagon's Inspector General "partially substantiated" several of Minnery's allegations but could not prove officials tried "to manipulate the financial statements."

Twenty years ago, Department of Defense Analyst Franklin C. Spinney made headlines exposing what he calls the "accounting games." He's still there, and although he does not speak for the Pentagon, he believes the problem has gotten worse.

"Those numbers are pie in the sky. The books are cooked routinely year after year," he said.

Another critic of Pentagon waste, Retired Vice Admiral Jack Shanahan, commanded the Navy's 2nd Fleet the first time Donald Rumsfeld served as Defense Secretary, in 1976.

In his opinion, "With good financial oversight we could find $48 billion in loose change in that building, without having to hit the taxpayers."

I'm still wondering when the Gov't is going to find that 2.3 Trillion dollars Rumsfelt reported missing Sept. 10,2001. It's been like- 12 years now!... That would make me wink at a few more here! Men brought it on themselves with the fight for equality with women. Oh, T'is a tangled web we weave!

On a serious note, I believe it was Woodrow Wilson's political advisor who came up with the idea of propaganda, and was the driving force behind giving women the right to vote. His sole purpose was to tear apart the family unit, because he knew that inherently women have always had a biological need to be taken care of, be it from a husband/family, or from the government. He saw the opportunity for the government to gain liberal control if only women would look to the government instead of their husbands to look after them.

This is the dark side of feminism, so now women are in the workforce competing with men, bragging about their independence while at the same time staying true to their biological urges by voting liberal and giving the US government the power it craves.

It's very unfortunate that as a result, men are not receiving the respect that is owed to them just for being human. We see this in tv shows and commercials that constantly belittle men and make them out to be buffoons with low IQs who need to be bossed around by their wives. Even shows on the Disney Channel elevate the intelligence of children over their fathers. It's truly despicable.

Interesting comment.  And now the people will be controlled by being dependent upon the government.  Politicians run for office so they can tell "the people" what do and how to live, so does it not make sense that politician will use whatever tactic they can conceive to control, rule, gain power, and get voted in.  I say term limits for all politicians...then bring in new ones.  Maybe we should even limit the president to a maximum of two 3 year terms.  8 years is just to long.  Limit political campaign spending...and if the politicians want to get press by spending then let it be on charity (and I don't mean a prostitute named Charity).  Anything over a certain amount can be spent on charity to gain press exposure.

from the net.....

"A Brilliant Prophecy From 93 Years Ago

"H.L. Mencken (born 1880 - died 1956) was a journalist, satirist, critic, and Democrat. He wrote this editorial while working for the Baltimore Evening Sun, which appeared in the July 26,1920 edition.

"As democracy is perfected, the office of the President represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day, the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last and the White House will be occupied by a downright fool and complete narcissistic moron.

H.L. Mencken, The Baltimore Evening Sun, July 26, 1920
So it was written...and has come to pass!"

I wonder if the Obam supporters realize that they are considered the enemy of america by most people with real smarts..  Not book smarts, but real smarts..   I, and many others,  wouldn't hire a obam supporter if they were the only applicant.   I wouldn't want anyone with so little sense on the job or around me..They are dangerous and you can't fix stupid.

In some circles "Liberal Thinking" is considered an oxymoron.

I have seen a couple of libatards wake up recently, but not many. I guess we can always hope, but I get the feeling if they were stupid enough to get sucked into the socialist and communist lies they are probably never going to read history and understand business and economics. However, a million hail mary's might be a good start to forgiveness if they do learn the real facts, learn to recognize the propaganda, and really change.

I always wonder if the person stating that they are liberal really knows the true meaning?  So I like to understand what their real beliefs are, and perhaps they are just confused.  There is a cute girl from PA that I really find attractive.  She replied to my inquiry about her liberal beliefs.  She apparently feels that it's okay to spread homosexuality and is okay with abortion across the board.  Which was a real turn off to me.  Now if she had said, I don't hate homosexuals but believe they should keep their issues behind closed doors and not spread it out into society, then I would have been okay with it.  And if she had said, I believe in abortion if the woman's life is at stake, or the child will be born with horrific defects, or in the case of rape, then I would have been okay with it.  And she may have still called herself liberal.  So I have to define what liberal means to a person.  Does that make sense?

@ Dianna.   I am ashamed to admit that I returned the wink of a cute liberal earlier today. Then I read the fine print in her profile and wished I could retract the wink. That is what prompted this blog.

btw, I notice that you don't identify yourself as a liberal in your profile.  IMHO that is much worse than posting fake or 30 year old pics. Much worse.

Never the less....I guess I owe you a quarter.
