I'm an age that I can remember when I was little and I could look at all my uncles and these other old guys and they all had tats from THE WAR and I would ask them, Uncle James, what's that?  And he'd smile and say "Why that's an anchor I got while I was in the Navy."  Or Uncle Earl, what's that? And Uncle Earl would smile and say "Well, that's a heart!" And what does it say in the middle? "Oh, that's says Jean, that's you're Aunt Jeans name."

I dated a lady in her 50's (met on here) a few years ago and she had a discreet tat and I asked her, "What's that?" And she smilled and responded "Why, that's a dolphin I got when I lived in Hong Kong when I was in my early 30's (25 years ago).

Now, I was young 7, 8 years old but by then I knew what an anchor looked like, I definarely knew what a heart looked like and I was pretty sure I could spell Jean.

And trust me, those things MIGHT have looked like dolphins, anchors, hearts and spelled Jean at one point but now they were just unrecognizeable blobs on old wrinkled skin.

My guess is that those who have more recently acquired tats will one day be answering those very questions from someone younger and these younger people will also decide "No way I'm ever gonna do that to my skin!"

I dont mind tatoo's on a man.  They can be pretty sexy but, not on me!  You wouldn't put a bumper sticker on a Bentley.  Would you?

To me a tat has to have a special meaning to you. I really don't care what ppl think of my two tats both was frwelcime home presents from Iraq and to the lady no offense but u never know what has happen to a person in there life to be the way they are yes I am a lil overweight but I spent two years learning how to walk again people might get big but they will lose weight but once ur a snob allways a snob

Thank you for your service, sir.  God bless you and keep you safe from any further harm for the rest of your life.

JEREMYKYLE....

THANK YOU for your service! Very pro military and come from a long line of servers! My son is contemplating trying for Seals or Para Rescue... Very proud for him to follow in his fathers and ancestors footsteps, but it does scare me a bit he will be one of the ones not coming home or wounded one day.. Sorry for your injuries... Glad you got your mobility back!

As far as "weight" issues... My reference was due to critisism against tats, as I find looking at "art" (even on a body) to be mesmorizing... and yes. I feel they should hold deep meaning, as mine do. I watch shows like LA Ink and cry at many of the stories... Babies dying and having the last picture taken inked on the dads chest, etc.. It touches my heart...

My second reference was due to fact I feel people should see what lies in ones "heart", not on their bodies... whether it be ink, or fat. I do feel people go overboard... .. the kids with these outlandish piercings and stuff.. BUT.. I prefer to talk to them and see what lies within..

That was my reference... Sorry if you misunderstood my meaning... I'm not always the most eloquent when it comes to my wording.. I feel treatment of others is most important, and that has NOTHING to do with the outside...

THANK YOU again for your service...

YIKES is right PAT! She actually sounded at first like those children that are malnourished...

The reason I mentioned "fat" was due to others mentioning how bad tats look when people get older, fatter, flabbier etc...  Fact is... The majority of peope who actually take care of their bodies do so as a way of LIFE.. and always maintain their appearance in this manner.. Obviously age has an effect on everyone.. But if people work out, they can still look good at 70!!

PROOF? ERNESTEIN SHEPHARD.. This "Muscle Buildng Grandma" started working out at 56!!!! after the death of her sister... She is now 74 years old and in the Guiness World Book as oldest female body builder!!

And her tat doesn't look bad either! :)

Not now it doesn't.  But how's it gonna look when she's 93!!!!

LOLOLOL.

Not so hot. All wrinkled up and sloppy looking.

But--on the other hand, who cares?  I don't.  I just choose not to spend time looking at such stuff.

V, I've been thinking about this tattoo issue and I think you ought to get a tiny little tat on your left shoulder of a miniature Beelzebub.  That would be perfect for you.

Pat~
Well, I'm still trying to catch my breath....but I will attempt a response!  (life is still good...hehe)

Hmm....well I'm not sure what the gov't would do or who would have to pay....but it would be a dilemma for sure.  I think they would probably opt for some sort of revision to the tattoo.  All I know is I told that to my son when he was 8 yrs old....and he never got one!  *wink*

He never got one--not on your watch--and that's a good thing indeed.

On his own watch, when he's 21 or older--let's hope he still holds to his mom's ideals.

Why muck up the physicality God gave us?  We can add to it, pierce our ears [one piercing in each ear, please--okay I'm as old-fashioned as Adam & Eve], put a little tiny thingy in the nose [which, BTW, I happen to hate since sooner or later the thingy INSIDE the nose holding the outside thingy in place will show up as a visible hunk of snot inside the nose--whether or not it is that or not--and I'll want to throw you out on the street where I don't have to look at that crap.

Ah....well....I hate nose rings.  I hate eyebrow rings.  Mostly, I hate any body rings that aren't, #1, singular, and #2, limited to earlobes.  Period.  Everything else--makes me want to puke.

Sorry if I offend anyone.  I'm sure I have.  But how about we just agree to disagree and move on from there?  You think you look beautiful with all your piercings; I think you look hideous.

And never shall the twain meet.  But let's be friends anyway.  LOLOLOL

Just don't directly send me pics and I'll be happy.

~Pat~...I think what most young people don't think about is getting old, but assuredly I can tell them that old sailors and bikers I've seen with tats that are about 30 to 50 years old basically look like art that Leroi Neiman would have thrown out and tried to melt in the waste can. Perhaps even a Khandinsky....in essence, your body art becomes an amalgamation of ink splotches.

True. true, true.

Interesting thought, Diana.  If someone full of identifiable tats had to go into the Witness Protection Program, would the government [meaning the taxpayers] pay to have all those identifiable tats removed?  Hmmmm.

Are these tats for one of those one-night stands when we wake up with someone whose name we never knew when we fell asleep with them--after heavy-duty sex--the night before?

Yup.  That's for sure.  Hope's post aside.  But then again, we weren't comparing tats to anything else except themselves.

Excessive body fat is another matter altogether.

Speaking of which, I was driving home today, across a very slow intersection, when I spotted a girl no more than 13 coming up from the "beach" on the Delaware River.  She had thin legs, but her arms were blubbery, and her midriff at it's widest point was at least 38 inches around.  13--14 at most--years old.  And--she was wearing VERY SKIMPY BIKINI and walking with the kind of strut that tells you she thought she looked really cool.

YIKES! The world has gone so mad I can't even begin to make sense of it any longer.

WO! WHAT DID I MISS!! LOL

KANEY has made me "re-think" the whole.. "Won't go out with a half sleeve!!" LOLOL...

Seriously... after reviewing so many critisisms..... WHO CARES about the wrinkly bodies.. The fact 65% of Americans are "too large" to look good undressed.. PERIOD!! Does it matter to me if they have tats or no tats? If I don't want to see you naked... It ain't due to a little INK!

Perhpas people would fare better to reflect on what they put INTO their bodies.... versus how they express themselves ON them... Obesity and all it's complications causes far more deaths than tats!

KANEY.. I'd rather see you @ the beach than the majority of nasty bodies I've seen in all my time! And MOST.. didn't have tatoos!

Just sayin....
