I missed this topic... as I am not on here much anymore..
BUT...
I concur on many points...

"WE THE PEOPLE" of TODAY.. are NOT the same "WE THE PEOPLE"
when the constitution was written long ago..

"CONTRACTS" are written and renegotiated EVERY DAY...

Perhaps the "JOLT" we need is to revamp what our awesome founding fathers started that made way to today's society..

First thing I'd revamp?

IN GOD WE TRUST... MUST ALWAYS REMAIN ON EVERYTHING!
On all bills, in court rooms, etc..
But I suppose many don't want this to change since they are trying to take it out of everything now!..

I think we do better when we have one arty majority of congress and the opposing President.. I feel it brings forth more "BALANCE" .. which is what we lack most!!

JMHO~~

Quoting wwww12345:

There is nothing wrong with the constitution. There is a lot wrong with congress and the current president.

Put that it caps, Bernie. And double it in BOLD.

I think Voyager is just going through some really, really rough times right now. At least I hope that's the problem.

We shall see.

So glad you chimed in.

Quoting attaboy127:

Thank you D35 for speaking up! We are in a fix only because many people did not do their homework during the '08 election--on both sides.
Then add in that 47% of our population pays no Federal Income Taxes and this is soon to go higher which will only make the problems bigger and the debt 'hugher' which in turn could and will take us under financially if we do not change.
If we will stop and look for those candidates that are ready to stand up for the country and not their own re-election, we could still be a viable country with morals.
We must not just throw up our hands and whine or grovel or give any other sign of capitulation, but fight back with our minds and our votes. I do not want to think that my service was in vain and that we are to become a have-not nation. The consitution is still alive and well--when followed and not played with by those who think that they are much smarter than those who wrote it at such great peril back in the 1700's. They pledged their honor and their lives on it and it worked/works. We are a Judeo/Christian nation and without God we will not make it. In God we trust!
Amen

Agree completely, John. Here's to the power of our Democratic Republic and all and everything she was built on and out of.

Vote for her on election day 2012.

Vote 20 times if you think you can get away with it.

Just kidding...sort of.

Pat

Thank you, Dakota. I was too stunned by Voyager's remarks to even begin to think of an answer. Methinks our friend, Voyager, has fallen into a grand, glum funk as his blog doesn't sound like his usual self.

Nevertheless, thank you or your thoughtful answer, most of which I agree with completely.

Most importantly, I must agree with your remark:

"I'll have to agree with the USA is basically screwed if something radical is not done, and done quickly."

God help us all. Most especially on election day this coming November.

I'll have to disagree with changing the constitution. It is the foundation that America is built upon and I don't see it as the problem.

I'll have to agree with the USA is basically screwed if something radical is not done, and done quickly. I'll also have to agree with "It won't matter who gets elected. Doesn't matter which party wins." I hate to agree with that one, but to a extent it is true. But lucky for us other countries are in worse shape and taking the spotlight off of us.

You said "Frankly, having a President is obsolete" I guess it would be difficult for me to argue that since we haven't had one for the last 3 years. But in all seriousness, a president is a figure head that is supposed to give confidence and represent "the people" in a proud and powerful manner. So, he is kind of like a conductor, yes you could do without a president but it just seems to work better with one. I'm sure England could also do without the Queen???

So, this is what you need to know. America, on it's current path is screwed. You just can't spend more than you take in. And more taxation is not the solution as the wealthy and smart will find ways around this, even if they have to move from a state or expatriate. Printing dollars are not the solution as it leads to dilutions of the currency and inflations. Printing dollars also screws up other countries since the dollar is the worlds currency. I could continue but it's basically a moot point (meaning, no matter how much it is debated and evidence is shown it will not change things).

Perhaps the US should look at our neighbor (Canada) for a solution as when they faced the same problem, they got their act together and fixed it.

The 2nd amendment gives us "the right to bear arms". Usually people understand this as a right given by the founding fathers as protection against some individual that would wish to do us harm. And perhaps that was part of their thinking, but this was not the sole reason. The reason for this amendment was in the case that our government became so against the people that the people had to arm themselves to take back America. The politicians know this, why do you think many hate this amendment and want it changed.
