~PAt~...you're going to love this, but...More and more Mexicans and other central american nationalities that are here illegally are actually headed back to their respective homelands because the economy there is better than here!...True story!

Who'd a thunk, all we had to do was run our country broke and everybody would leave. Hell, I might even leave!

I did read something about this:  that many illegals are returning home because our economy is so bad they can do better back where they came from.

Maybe that's a good thing--temporarily, anyway.

Oh, my.  Call it old age; I don't know.  But I am becoming so bloody firm and strong in my annoyance/hatred of anyone and anything that dares or threatens to move the USA away from our original Constitution and Bill of Rights that, if those folks presented themselves on my front porch, I'd use the least possible excuse I could find to shoot 'em dead.

Yeah....go ahead...it's posted.  I expect a visit from the CIA, the FBI, the whatever within the next few days.  I don't much care.  We've already been visited by the Secret Service--and their representative thought we were the good guys!!!!

Love to all--as long as you actually, trully, honestly, love the "Good Ole USofA."

If not-go on down to the Florida swamps in search of alligators.  Get real close to them.  Real, real close,  the way ignorant liberals often want to do with wild animals of any kind,  and---WHOOF!!!!!!!!  You are alligator meat.  As you should be.
GOOD NIGHT!!!

I guess you don't have a small business of your own.  I guess you're not impacted by federal regulations on small businesses.  Or, you're just plain so damn rich to begin with, none of it matters to you one way or the other.

Absolutely everything the Congress--and the President through Presidential edict--decides on affects and effects my small business and its net profits.  And most of it for the duration of Obama's presidency has totally sucked for my small business.

Seriously, it's become a very, very troublesome, morality issuefor sure.  The only thing I can say for sure is that we need to secure the southern border between the USA and Mexicos NOW.  Utterly.  IF we did that tomorrow [not possible, I would think] we'd still have horribly wretched moral issues to deal with regarding anchor babies and such.  The situation is not only tragic in the extreme, but it's heinous in the extreme.

#5. "Toss illegals out" So we welcome them when we have jobs and toss them out when we don't need them. Is that America? Is that what is written on the Statue of Liberty?

Actually, that's pretty close to the truth.  NOT close in that we don't toss LEGAL immigrants out who don't have jobs.

But I think we sure as heck need to toss ILLEGALS out whether they have jobs or not!!!

What's wrong with everyone paying the same rate for taxes on everything from groceries to everything else? I mean.... DON'T WEALTHY PEOPLE PAY MORE PROPERTY TAXES FOR THEIR LARGE HOMES, etc.. than someone whose home is worth $75,000... to $150,000> Makes no sense to me people wish to have people wiht higher incomes pay more than the standard fee...,.

It appears to me many ppl wish to "PENALYZE" the wealthy for having more? And the irony of it is.. It's quite possibly those who want to penalize the rich.. would be the first to cry if they had the money and had to help "more" than everybody else.

DO THE MATH PEOPLE! Follow me a sec.. It isn't that difficult to figure out.

WHAT DO WE TAX?

Most groceries, medicines, fuel, "habits", transportation, toys, etc.. Pretty much.. ANYTHING WE PURCHASE WILL BE TAXED.. In fact, hard to believe but how is it RESALE shops are taxed? I've never understood this premise... I buy something NEW, pay taxes on it.. I sell /or give it to resale shop.. Not only must they pay taxes on it, but then tax their customer who buys it? Hmmm... How is it USED items are taxed again and again? Cars... We pay tax on used vehicles whose VALUE tax was paid previously? Just a thought... Anyway...

FOLLOW MY LIITLE BLONDE BRAIN HERE ... I know it's difficult! But thank you to those who try! ;)

PLACES WE GET TAXED:

Publix, Pharmacies, fueling stations, Office Depot, Home Depot, WalMart, Car Dealership, purchase of vehicle through owner, resale shops, furniture stores, etc.. Pretty much IF WE TOUCH IT.. WE PAY TAXES!

"FAMILY A" - MR. AND MRS. WELFARE ... They are given "FREE" money already for groceries. Lets presume they don't eat out, buy cars, don't do much furniture shopping etc.. Basically, they have little, they pay little .. Due to their status, it costs the taxpayers money. The money comes from the TAXPAYERS for their food stamps, WIC, housing projects, etc.. That's a no brainer.

Say "FAMILY B"... MR. AND MRS. ON A TIGHT BUDGET spend $7800 a year on groceries ($150 week as they are on tight budget)

They bought a vehicle this year at $15,000... and won't purchase another vehicle for 8 years!

They didn't go on vacation and rarely eat out, as money is tight. They spent $300 the ENTIRE YEAR eating out.  They didn't buy furniture and won't for quite some time, as they are tight budget. So you get the picture..

PUBLIX $7800

DINING $300

HOME DEPOT $400

WALMART TOILETRIES $2000

FUEL COST $1200 (Remember .. BUDGET ppl drive Hondas and get 15000 MPG! LOL..)

They spent $11,700 on LIFE .. after housing issues.

THEY WILL PAY $585.00 FLAT TAXES THIS YEAR...

Now take MR. MONEY BAGS... Who vacations often, flies frequently, has never left a restaurant without a bottle of Silver Oaks Cab NAPA in his belly ($148.00 bottle), and if a vehicle isn't at least $60,000.. He won't sit behind the wheel... and BTW.. He buys one at least every 2 years, and it is NOT his only vehicle or "TOY".. He has 2 yachts, 3 cars, 2 motorcycles, 2 Seadoo's and his children are in high priced private schools and colleges.. He has a Full time maid, pool and yard service, pays for 1 yacht to be docked and the "little one" is at his home on the waterfront.. BTW.. he has 3 homes he must pay for all these services for...

PUBLIX: $20,000

DINING $31,200... yep! I know men who spend AT LEAST $600 for weekly dining.. Easy to do when where you go costs $250 for 2 people.

HOME DEPOT... $30,000 (Home projects) His wife "Smiling Sally" can't get enough to keep her entertained so everytime he comes home, she has something new she PAYS someone else to do.. "OH, I know I just bought that chandelier 6 months ago.. I feel sooo guilty... BUT.. I'm really not happy with it. HO HUM.. Let me go spend another $5000 and get the one I want!"

WALMART: $20,000 EASILY...

FUEL: $30,000 Anyone ever filled up a 3 engine boat? It evaporates fuel before you ever leave the fueling station! It only gets worse when you hit the water! LOL... We are talking $300 day FOR FUEL!! YEP!

VACATIONS/ PLANE TICKETS: $30,000 and that does not account for what he spends on or where he vacations..

VEHICLE: $65,000

We now have... $226,200 he has paid for his "LIFE" ... (and I really haven't even gone into detail about ALL he spends.. )

BTW.. he's a doctor.. so he has to buy medical equipment for his office.. $150,000 this year. He may get a write off later due to our form of taxes now, but he still has to pay the taxes... In a flat tax.. there won't be any write offs.. It's straight across the board..

$376,200 x .20 = $75,240

$75,240 in TAXES.. (and trust me.. I am NOT even being overly detailed.. just trying to give a SIMPLE example...)  $75,240 to $585 in taxes...  That is not even considering how much "Smiling Sally" spends getting her hair dyed, nails done and clothing sprees! I alone spend an average of grand a year on my hair... and another grand on nails and pedi's!

This was NOT the year he purchased his $150,000 yacht either which cost him an extra $30K in taxes!! AND.. his wife was sweet and didn't get HER new car.. cuz she was busy.. she will get it next year!

In just this little bit.. the "TIGHT BUDGET" FAMILY is paying 0.777511961722488% of the taxes paid in by MONEY BAGS. OR.. reverse it and MONEY BAGS pays 12861.538461538461% MORE in taxes than "BUDGET" ...

Everyone seems so ready to ditch the rich for their "loop holes" in not paying taxes... They try to find loop holes because they already pay out their azzes in taxes! People seem to forget all their cars, houses, toys, etc...But.. THEY are the one purchasing multiple homes, multiples expensive vehicles, multiple toys, like yachts and vacations.. They are the ones employing many.. or keeping many employed BECAUSE THEY SPEND! If they quit spending $600 a week to dine.. many more restaurants would go out of busness which employ many servers, etc!!

KEEP IT SIMPLE... TAX EVERYTHING IF YOU WANT... YOU PAY THE TAXES AT TIME OF PURCHASE AND WALLA.. IT'S OVER!! The wealthy will then buy MORE.... boosting the economy and keeping people working.. and NOBODY has to worry about the

Have you seen the new documentary, "Thrive: What on Earth Will It Take?"

It's a free movie on YouTube. Extremely well done and well researched. The first half is about energy, but the 2nd half is all about global economics. The economics part starts about 40 minutes into it. The entire movie will set you spinning. ;-D............... BeWell

Study the British Taxation regime to see how your flat rate idea is worked but then gets extremely complicated to enable a 'fair' taxation system based on ability to pay.  The real flat rate system is VAT Value Added Tax This is charged at 20% on every purchase or service This means that in proportion of earnings those on lowest pay rates pay a far higher portion of their pay to the Government

Thank you.  The last thing America needs is a VAT tax.  When buying from Europe, I hate VAT, and always look to see if it is included in the price.  If not, I don't buy and find the good elsewhere.  Proof that a VAT kills business.

Well DAKOTA...

I would say you have some valid debate here.. Figured you might! ;) I read every word and in your last response you recognize ILLEGALS are an issue.. Possibly just not as much an issue as I presume it to be..

Pretty unbelievable about tomato picking! I would do that as well if I had to in order to make ends meet. If they went to unemployment, the people would say no because they are collecting unemployment, doing nothing for something already paid into... If I were collecting unemployment, I might have responded the same to tomato picking. I must admit.. not much of a gardener! LOL...  I wonder how many people they addressed who weren't receiving funds though? It all depends on how and whom you pose the question to.

I still hold to my value that anyone wishing to have a license in something must follow the rules.. Anyone wishing to "hold a license" to be an American citizen should follow whatever rules they must to apply for citizenship. I've been to take a drivers test before where they had a translator reading the test to a Hispanic. Now how is that person going to read road signs etc. if they can't read English?

I don't think we are eons apart on this issue... But I do wonder.. If we started hammering down on owners who hire illegals for cheaer wages.. well.. I dated one developer who hired illegals and I always thought.. "I wonder how many constriction workers are collecting food stamps etc.. because people like this guy won't give them a  job." I guess it's all in the type of people one chooses to surround themselves by. I have always surrounded myself with workers... People who will step up to the plate to get their bread and butter!

Good to have you back! I enjoy seeing the many facets of pertinent issues! ;)

I think I've addressed everything the way I see it and the solution to the problem(s) (as I see it).  I don't have much more to say.  Well, one thing...Hope I can't see you picking tomatoes when peanuts on the floor bother you. LOL  Isn't in nice when you are the only one that's gonna get that. :)  You do get it, Right???  Oh, and by the way, I'm sure there are still some opening for tomato pickers...want me to get you a applicaion?  HUM?

Until the health care issue is solved…the welfare issue will not be solved!

No one that qualifies for welfare, can afford to take a low skilled or minimum wage job because they lose their healthcare when the do.  Many companies avoid paying healthcare benefits by hiring only part time workers or just don’t offer insurance at all.  That means if a person chooses to work for one of these companies, they have to pay for insurance out of pocket.  If my memory serves me, in Texas, anyone who makes more than $6000.00 per year cannot qualify for welfare/Medicaid. How can any unskilled worker afford to put food on the table and pay insurance premiums if they choose to work making more than $500.00 per month?  They just can’t survive!!

Additionally, why is the burden of insurance placed on the back of business?  For businesses that provide Benefits, they pay big bucks to provide health insurance to their workers.  This places a competitive disadvantage on companies when they try to compete with overseas companies that don't pay for health care coverage.  Perhaps this can be a huge motivator for a company to move overseas…. where they don’t have to pay for insurance.

Why do we even need insurance companies in the middle of healthcare?  They only serve as a middleman, driving up cost….and if you want to talk about rationing care….well my insurance denies/limits coverage for all kinds of services, including which doctors I can see; unless I want to pay more.  Their mission is certainly not to ‘provide’ healthcare.  No!  It is to make profits!  Seems like there are plenty of things for them to insure in order to make profits:  boats, homes, cars, Betty Grable’s legs.  *wink*

Can anyone tell me what exactly is the function of insurance companies in providing healthcare to our nation?  We spend more per capita for healthcare than any other developed nation and yet our morbidity and mortality outcomes are worse!!

Of course there are some that abuse the welfare system, but that can and should be fixed!  But for millions of good people in the country, that have fallen on hard times…..welfare/Medicaid is a safety net that helps them get by.

But my main point is:  In this country, when a person loses a good job, they lose their healthcare coverage as well, which pushes people into the welfare system.  That person might be able to put food on the table by getting a lesser paying job….but they can’t afford insurance for healthcare if that lesser job doesn’t provide insurance!  The current employer paid insurance system is not only bad for business, but it incentivizes welfare.

PS:  And don't even get me started on the people who can't qualify for welfare....but don't have insurance through their job, nor do they buy insurance and just freeload on taxpayers by showing up in the ER when they get sick expecting to be treated.

In response to Hoping.

1. I would have never hired you on the boat.  I will not state my reasons as I think you have already done it well.  I know enough about you that I don't think the job was a good fit for you.

2. You hit on the MAIN problem... The free ride that our government is giving a huge number of citizens.  Why should they work if they make more staying at home.  In fact I've had people call for a job that said exactly that...when they found out that my job paid a little more than min. wage they said they'd just pass.

3.  Take the free ride away and you may be correct about Americans working.  In fact I believe you are 100% correct.  But when is that going to happen?

4. No opinion is definitive, there is always flaws even if correct.  Which means we may all be correct about different aspects.

5. "Toss illegals out"  So we welcome them when we have jobs and toss them out when we don't need them.  Is that America?  Is that what is written on the Statue of Liberty?

6. Flat tax?  Have you even taken the time to read and understand what a fair tax is about?  I used to advocate a flat tax, but a fair tax makes much better sense.  Don't shoot it down until you understand both.

7. Past does not dictate the future.  Don't compare workers of the past (no freebies) with workers of the present.  Like comparing men with children.

I don't think there was that much disagreement between us.  You are just looking at it from a different perspective.  I run a business and you work for business.  So it's kind of the employer vs the employee kind of thing.  Open a business that pays low wages and then give me your opinion.  Just to add something.  My uncle retired from a local pipe mill.  Wages there are very good...they have a very difficult time keep good labor.  Explain that one as I can't.

Apex, I totally respect your views and understand them.  I am only stating my views from experience.  There are a few things that your wrote that I'd like to respond to.

"Tom Surtees is tired of hearing employers grouse about their lazy countrymen. “Don’t tell me an Alabamian can’t work out in the field picking produce because it’s hot and labor intensive,” he says. “Go into a steel mill. Go into a foundry. Go into numerous other occupations and tell them Alabamians don’t like this work because it’s hot and it requires manual labor.” The difference being, jobs in Alabama’s foundries and steel mills pay better wages—with benefits. “If you’re trying to justify paying someone below whatever an appropriate wage level is so you can bring your product, I don’t think that’s a valid argument"

Apex did you know that most of Alabama's steel mills have been shut down, the mill sold to the Chinese, disassembled and shipped to China?  I use steel in part of my business and the cost has kept rising, partly due to closures.  I remember going to buy steel and complaining about the cost.  They said the local mills were shutting down.  At the time it was a huge rolling mill in Gadsten, AL.  Birmingham, Alabama know for it's iron and steel mills is basically dead.  Crime is the highest in the country and the county is very near bankrupt.

In the 80's help was not that difficult to find.  It was in the late 90's and earliy 2000 when it things became difficult.  That's about the same time we started having immigration issues.  I've had a few problems with Hispanics, but many more with Americans.  I had one American guy that would call not to come to work.  I specifically remember 2 of his excuses.  His first excuse was that he just took a shower and didn't want to get dirty.  Later he called in and said the cat scratched him and he wouldn't be in.  Then after I fired him, he got on the internet and flagged my job adds.  He also got on Facebook and bad mouthed my company.  I could have sued him but he had nothing.

I now have a rag tag crew working for me.  All are Americans except for one.  One is Mexican, and has been with me for 10 years.  He is like family.  I can trust him and he has helped me keep my business going.  I honestly may have shut things down if it were not for him.  And if I had of done so the government would have missed out on hundreds of thousands worth of taxes.  So that's where my views come from.  I understand Hispanics and what they want.  They are willing to pay for it all, we just need to allow them to pay and give them a path.

There is a soluction to the problem the politicians just don't want it.  They want to pick sides.  After all, if the politicians fixed the problems, then they would be out of a job.

To quote Dakata “So the news station sent a reporter to the local unemployment office to see if people (Americans) would take the job.  A large amount said they were not interested while a few said they would try but would not stay.  No one, and I mean no one was interested in the job long term.  Tomatos rotted in the fields and we all paid more.  Guess who's back picking the tomatos?”

I seem to remember this story and yes there were hurdles and no one planned for the immediate effect of the immigration law. One point that does not seem to be raised is that LEGAL immigrants were still available for work; it is the ILLEGAL workers we have issue with. Additionally, we could have made welfare recipients required to take these jobs or prisoners for that matter.

I personally do not think enough time was given to see this new law through. First off it should be a nationwide law. At the end of the day, most of the farmers did NOT raise wages so Americans did not come. Why should farmers and plant owners expect people to take a back-breaking seasonal job with low pay and no benefits just because they happen to be offering it? If no one wants an available job—especially in extreme times—maybe the fault doesn’t rest entirely with the people turning it down. Maybe the market is inefficient. At some point wages would have to be raised and the costs passed through to the consumer which they would be able to absorb because they were earning more money.

I read this article and found this comment interesting. “Tom Surtees is tired of hearing employers grouse about their lazy countrymen. “If you’re trying to justify paying someone below whatever an appropriate wage level is so you can bring your product, I don’t think that’s a valid argument,”

I have also owned many types of business through the years. In the 80’s I owned a lawn and landscape company. I had no problem hiring Americans. Yes, I had a few green card holders work for me from time to time and yes I was able to pay them less but I still went through employees as this is the nature of the business. I also had a swimming pool service company in the 90’s and had no problem hiring Americans. Both businesses were menial work and neither paid much above minimum wage. I had large turnovers but again this is just part of the business. So to say that the people who were looking to get hired as pickers were not interested in staying long term-to that I say SO WHAT!

Thanks for your response this makes things fun. Another reason to love America-freedom of speech.
I agree we need to get rid of the unions as they are costing compnies too much money. My father was a union worker all his life but it seems the unions have grown since then and not in a good way.

I enjoy seeing the many facets of pertinent issues! ;)

~~ AMEN APEXOFLIFE!! ~~
Time for a DAKOTA beatdown?? LOL...
David, we usually lie in agreement, but using APEX's one word... POPPYCOCK!! LOL
It IS TRUE... MANY Americans refuse to take meanial jobs... This is NOT however, ALL Americans by ANY stretch of the imagination... There are many people, who have for whatever reason, missed out on "formal" education and will GLADLY take "meanial or mindless or physical jobs just to make ends meet! There are ALSO even well educated people who WILL work doing WHATEVER just to feed their families and stay out of the "WELFARE" lines due to pride and being a "True American" who believes in busting their tail to move forward! NO ONE FLOCKED TO THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA LONG AGO FOR A FREE RIDE!
The problem is A. as APEX stated,
*****
the truth is that there are 25 million Americans who need jobs and 7 million illegal immigrants holding American jobs. These jobs would pay  more and Americans could than afford to take these jobs.  Illegal low wage workers drive down the rate of wages. The more illegal workers we allow to work the more the incomes of low-skilled workers becomes or remain depressed.
*****
And B... There are many Americans who get the milk "FREE", so WHY IS THE STRAY CAT GOING TO WORK FOR HIS FOOD IF WE KEEP FEEDING IT FOR FOR DOING NOTHING!!
I lived offshore, working on a vessel, basically available 24 hours... (Shifts are "supposed" to be 12 hours.. HA! If boat has to be tied to a platform and you are the only one around... and you happen to be in 8 foot seas and are only a 108 pound girl... YOU get to throw the 3-inch sternline to the bit anyway...) I lived in cramped quarters, with a bunch of men to deal with (and they are not necessarily men who treat women "respectfully") , dealt with things like all plumbing breaking down 70 miles offshore and had no toilets or running water or showers.. etc! WHAT A NIGHTMARE THAT WAS! That "hitch" I had 16 men to cook 3 squares for, provide snacks in between, clean the gally and bathrooms and do it all without complaining! My night ended at 12:30 AM and began AGAIN at 4 AM...

In addition to doing that work... I've had unsecured microwaves and commercial size coffee makers flying at me in rough waters as well as drug 5X8 plywood across a yard in construction because I was too flippin weak to pick it up.. I got up at 4 am to be on job at 5 am because Florida heat is a killer.. so you start before dawn! There were nails in the boards and splinters and they were heavy as hell for me, board after board after board!! I worked 10 hours a day and was so drenched in my own sweat ... my pants were falling off! So from then on, I learned.. WEAR SHORTS even if you tear your legs up with nails and splinters! I did all those jobs for barely over minimum wage!!

Therefore, NO ONE could ever convince me American's won't work! Only LAZY American's won't work! (And most LAZY Americans already get their "FREE TICKET!") All you people reading who pay ILLEGALS low wages because they will do the work.. SHAME ON YOU! I hope you get busted and it costs you far more than you saved! There are MILLIONS of AMERICANS who are ready, willing and able to do whatever it takes to feed their families and keep a roof over their heads! I may be no scholar in math... But, out of the 25 million workers seeking employment.... You can't convince me 36% of those unemployed AMERICANS wouldn't do the job! We turn people away at Labor Forces.. daily.. WHY? Because the truck was already filled with ILLEGALS ...

TOSS THE ILLEGALS OUT OF THE TRUCK AND PUT AMERICANS IN THEIR PLACE! And AMEN to that driving up the wages!!

And I'm sorry.. But "FAIR" TAX???? Isn't that kind of an ignorant word to begin with? ACROSS THE BOARD... EVERYONE PAYS THE SAME! Everyone wants to bitch about the "rich" not paying "enough" ..BUT.. the fact is..If you make over $200K a year.. You already pay.. 67% of America's taxes.. (not to mention how many TAX PAYING CITIZENS the wealthy employ, or all the fine dining they do keeping restaurants and servers etc employed.. or how many vehicles, boats, houses, vacations they buy, etc...) Get the picture yet???

The POOR people are not the ones PROPPING UP AMERICA PEOPLE!

1) Penalize the "wealthy" who employ illegals!

2) Quit giving hand-outs to the lazy who are perfectly capable of working! And drug test them as well! (I am NOT referring to the people now utilizing assistance today....I refer to "lifetime" recipients whose families continue the cycle! Make THEM go work the fields for their food stamps and housing! PROBLEM SOLVED!

3) Toss the ILLEGALS out on their azz along with their children who didn't come to the United States by legal means! How can a NON-citizen give birth to a CITIZEN!! That's sheer IDIOCY!! WE have REQUIREMENTS to become a citizen.. Just like Realtors have "requirements" in each state to get their license to sell property. If they don't pass, they don't get their license! Why should I, or anyone else be mandated to FOLLOW THE RULES.... Yet ILLEGALS don't? GET THEM OUT! WE ALREADY HAVE TOO MANY STARVING AMERICAN BABIES!
And while we are at it..... LET'S TAKE BETTER CARE OF OUR "VETS!" As of today, we take better care of ILLEGALS!!

4) FLAT Tax across the board!

Well Jeez.. V~~ There ya go!! Gettin the Princess all riled up again! Heehee~~
Look, it's like this! If a little hair, nails, stiletto girl can go do what I have done to make ends meet in hard times, then at the end of the day... There has to be even far more qualified individuals out there who CAN and WILL... do what I have done for SURVIVAL! I say we start with the ones we already give money to!

Quoting apexoflife:

Dakota,

Illegal immigration is a problem regardless of whose fault it is (government and or employers)

We have to fight the liberal myths that we here on liberal news stations and it bothers me that so many people believe this baseless nonsense.

To say that we need illegals to do the jobs Americans will not do is pure fabrication. The reason this is ridiculous is because the truth is that there are 25 million Americans who need jobs and 7 million illegal immigrants holding American jobs. Do the math, if illegal aliens were not holding these jobs, America citizens would because these jobs NEED to be filled so guess what would happen? These jobs would pay more and Americans could than afford to take these jobs. Illegal low wage workers drive down the rate of wages. The more illegal workers we allow to work the more the incomes of low-skilled workers becomes or remain depressed. Illegal immigrant workers lower the national average of low wage workers (typically those without a high school diploma). And please don’t tell me that the taxes that illegal immigrants actually produce a net gain economically. Mexico’s second biggest source of foreign income after oil comes from remittance from illegal aliens. (in 2008 25.1 billion).

As far as the myth that we need illegal immigrants so that our companies can compete with China - what poppycock. China is at war with us in so many levels but first and foremost is currency manipulation that drains our economy and jobs. We than have: hacking our American corporate computers and stealing industrial and technological secrets, industrial spies, refusing to endorse intellectual property rights and allowing pirating of our videos, recording and software to name just a few.

Whew that’s enough for today..)) Think I will go for a nice swim and lighten up.

Well apex,  we both seem to be conservative and I do agree there is a problem with illegal immigrations (a problem we brought on ourselves).

As a response to what you wrote:  I'm in Alabama which tried to pass the 2nd toughest illegal immigration laws in the counrty.  In fact I know the guy personally that was leading the charge.  I used to feel the same as you about this issue.  A local news cast did a piece on this exact same subject.  When these tough illegal immigration laws came up, hispanics left Alabama in huge number.  One of their jobs was picking tomatos.  So the news station sent a reporter to the local unemployment office to see if people (Americans) would take the job.  A large amount said they were not interested while a few said they would try but would not stay.  No one, and I mean no one was interested in the job long term.  Tomatos rotted in the fields and we all paid more.  Guess who's back picking the tomatos?

Now, you say these business would pay more if it were not for the cheap illegal labor.  Have you ever though that these business can't pay more?  That they have their profit margins very low and they base their profit on minimum wage.  Sure the owner is making more than anyone else but shouldn't he/she? Running a business is a headache.  Why would he want to take on the huge problems of business ownership if he can make the same amount working at a local plant? When business close their doors it only makes the cost of goods go up for us all.  Or sends business over seas such as the Alabama sock plants which used illegal immigrants.  I'd much rather see "Made in the USA" on my socks even if it were made by illegals.  Illegals have to spend money to live, thus paying taxes.  Business has to spend thus paying taxes.  All that leaves when business goes overseas.

Last, I know a business that couldn't get workers when the economy was booming.  Workers demaned huge wages for the low skill work they were doing and would walk off the job.  The Business owner was thinking of going out of business but then hired hispanics and made it through, thus paying taxes that otherwise would not have been paid (if their business failed).  Now that there are less jobs these same worker want these jobs that they so readily walked away from.  So who is at fault?  Russel Mills which made sporting apparel shut it's doors and moved overseas when the hispanics left and they paid very fair wages.

I base my experience on being a business owner for a long long time.  I've hired hispanics and for the most part was pleased.  I can tell you for a fact, these guys will NOT work for low wages.  The difference is that they are willing to work, willing to try, willing to be there and show up.  And they are not out to cause trouble and start lawsuits.  They helped keep business alive when Americans were to good to do manual labor, in the boom economy.  And many still are.

I base all this from experience.  I've been a business owner for more years than I want to admit.  I speak to other business owners all the time.  Economics is one of my interest only because I play the markets and it helps to know what's going on in the world.  My favorite financial guy is Jim Rogers, because for the most part he get's it right.  Read what he says.

To finish, I am in total agreement that we need new immigration laws that need to be enforced.  If I were Governor of a state, I would welcome immigrants.  I would make a 3 strikes and you're deported rule on the less serious crimes. Serious crimes 1 strike.  Very serious same laws that apply to citizens and after time served deported.  I would allow them to get drivers liciense after paying for a expensive drivers education course to make sure their driving skill are good (some learn to drive for the first time in the US).  I would require any immigrant to know English and speak it well within 2 years.  I would only allow for a small amount of their income to be sent back to their home country.  I would require them to keep a job and support their family no long term welfare.  All laws would apply to them that apply to citizens.  After 10 years they would be eligible for citizenship.  Citzenship would have a price of $5000 and the person applying must have met all standards for the past 10 years.  A program such as this would weed out any immigrants that only wanted to come to America to make money to send back home.  It would give oportunity to the immigrants that truly wanted to stay and make a better life for themselves.  They would add to the greatness of our country not take away from it.  I bet the state that did this would have a booming economy and bring back jobs to America.

You want your jobs back then KILL THE UNIONS!  My dad was Union so I've had my battles on this issue.
