Lets just say for example my son, who has long hair and when he comes home from boxing at the gym can look really scraggily, is walking thru the neighborhood near his apartment where druggies have been breaking into rich people's homes. A man who has a gun to make him feel brave follows him with his car and finally gets out of his car to follow my son on foot. My son turns and asks him what he is doing.. the man accuses my son of being a robber because he is skinny.. scraggily.. and dressed sloppy..face roughed up..  looks like a druggie.  My son, who doesn't use drugs, tells him to go screw himself.. they argue..  My son has boxing skills and knocks the idiot on his butt. The idiot pulls his gun and shoots my son. It ain't black or white.. it just ain't right.

Nice mirror to Zimmerman, Smax. I looked at that differently. He has ADHD, and was being treated for it, according to the interview the day after. We are just in the present, really catagorizing side effects of medication, and some chronic patients never maintain full balance. Chronic illnesses are sometimes street treated with black market cocktails. Those side effects might have been in play, whether simple Alcohol, or worse. The actions were too irrational. I still say he was on somethings autopilot when he acted. Clint Eastwood once said,"A man's got to know his limitations".

Once knew a person back in the day who had to "run" from any confrontation as he was a Golden Gloves boxing champ.  If he defended himself he was using a lethal weapon.

He was just a broke college student and couldn't afford a body guard.

Thugs, want-to-be gangsters, gangsters, and druggies usually don't live long.. Unfortunately, they usually hurt a lot of other people before they expire.

Quoting StunningYetShy76:

This really isn't about your son, but about the story I've been hearing from the East Coast?  It's an unfortunate one!  However, I haven't watched TV, including news for over 1.5 to 2 years To know the exact story behind the case.  Curious though, if you have boxing skills or a gun, I personally would hope neither would be used.  Perhaps more communication between people would result in less deaths, issues?  Most deaths are over anger, which most start with a punch, a push and possibly later.. Result in a gun.  I wish the ability to communicate without anger existed! Unfortunately this hasn't been the case in our world, which has lead to many deaths and wars throughout our past and present generations. Really unfortunate!!!

Once again, in agreement.  "most start with a punch", "Really unfortunate"  Stunning just summed everything up in a few words.  If she hasn't been jaded by the news, as she states, then her opinion is unbias.

StunningYet there is no story about my son.  It's just a made up scenario.  I was teasing him the other day about how skinny he has become and we were speaking about this type of scenario because he had been eyed warily in a neighborhood where his girl friend lives because he was dressed shabbily after working out.  I agree we need to find ways to work things out peacefully.. I had the original "make love not war" Tshirt.  its just tough when one person has a gun and isn't capable of handling that responsibility.

Can't batter people because you don't like their words and expect good results. Some will have a gun or knife. Some will just have your son arrested and then sue him. Especially true if a martial artist or boxer.
