Merry Christmas to all..  and I hope the one who will share next Christmas with me reads this..

Alone for Christmas

The tree is now standing.. the presents all wrapped

But the feeling isn’t Christmas..  my heart feels trapped

Its time for sharing presents, love and good cheer

But still its not Christmas, because you are not here

I have carols, stockings, and resolutions to renew

While the real Christmas feeling is waiting for you

I do agree. I do miss Christmas in Manhattan.  Every store, every shop--oh those glorious displays, as well as the Christmas music playing from loudspeakers all over the place.  And a few flakes of the white stuff coming down now and then.  I've never been to Europe, but I can imagine only one thing better and that would have to be Christmas in London.  At least that's what I imagine.  Perhaps Scotland would be even better.  Sarah says it's beautiful for sure.

Pat, I was just as excited as you were about Christmas in London before actually living here...

Now all I can say is what a load of nonsense!... People here are really hysterical about shopping for presents and cards... They start to show in supermarkets as early as September! There is no Thanksgiving in between to break the pattern so  by November you cannot BREATHE from the commercials and people around gearing up for it... and when it actually happens..... guess what? everybody leaves London to go to their homes !

London is not full of londoners anymore, we are all imigrants here working or playing and most of us will go away... So once the shopping craze finishes ( only to start again on boxing day when the sale season starts ) London is a desolate place... apart from street lights and an odd organ concert here and there. The crushing majority of people I know here will book a place at the restaurant instead of cooking Christmas lunch. Of course you can see The Nutcracker and can still find orchestra seats to see Shrek with the kids, and there is Santa at the Harrods' Grotto...Regent street is all lit up and the Queen makes a nice speech on the TV but hardly the picture of an English Christmas that I dreamed of... I guess that happens in movies.

Though I imagine Scotland to be differnt, as it is more rural and traditional.

I have a dog. I run my own finishing school and I take prisoners

I agree, no place like NYC for Christmas.  Just walking up 5th Ave looking at the magical window displays, ice skating or just getting some hot chocolate at Rockefeller Center and then heading over to St. Pat's.  I'd reccommend Cafe Des Artiste for lunch but it's closed now. Second choice would be the Russian Tea Room.

No one celebrates Christmas like the Italians so I'd pick Rome, Palermo or Florence ahaead of Paris.

Oh, the Russian Tea Room.  I'd almost forgotten about that place.  What marvelous memories I have of that wonderful establishment.  Thanks for the "memory tweak."

There's no place like Paris for me!  I was there one November and had the trip of a lifetime.  But for Christmas....NYC and Rockerfeller Center has got to be a great destination for romance as well.

LMAO.  Three cheers for you, SMAX.  Great response indeed.

You've been in here for years Smax... And still no lady, what gives

I know I wouldn't want anyone asking me that question, there is a very good chance my reply wouldn't be so nice. Some people are single because they are not idiotic enough to settle for the wrong person...whether for the first time or they have learned from their previous bad decisions.  Maybe some of us singles cannot find anyone with good character traits who share our same views of the world and we feel that opposites don't attract. Shall I go on?

Hey Deb.... You've been zinged, I guess you'll have to wait for the movie.  I hope it's not an animated short.

Awww, Smax, it's a bittersweet poem to describe how a lot of us feel. A cyber toast; Here's to finding the love that we will be sharing our next Christmas with!!

I think I will keep my Mistletoe hanging for extra long this season ;)
