No, the Andulusian does not have the swing in the front legs. They have a strong top line very naturally. When you ride them, they will round their back and shift their weight onto their back legs instead of mainly on the front. They have very natural collection. It is this collection that makes them very smooth to ride.

astute observation Sarah...though Six could certainly tell you more than I. The PP horses are smaller than many other breeds.Compact and hardy.

Q,,,doesnt an Andulusian have a similar front leg movement ? I have only seen a few and I cant recall. Seems like the Paseo Fino breed does too. At any rate..I love gaited horses !

I also know of these Peruvian Paso's. Like many of the gaited breeds they can be very comfortable. I think what is most interesting about the Peruvian Paso is the way they use their front legs. The photo below shows how the lower front legs swing outward from the knee. I think this is the only breed of horse that does this.

Hello Six, I have long admired the beautiful PP. Here in California, they have been around for a long time. Often used in Parades in full ethnic costumes.Stunning animals. There are other breeds that are similarly gaited, as I am sure you are aware. Tennessee Walking Horses, Missouri Foxtroteres, and the Andulusians from Spain are all gaited breeds. They are wonderfully smoothe and comfortable to ride, and very even tempered as well. In 1999, I was given a matched pair of black registered Tennessee Walking Horses. I brought them to my local ranch. At the time, there was only one other Walker in the area. Over the next few years, the ranch owner and many others rode my animals and took notice of their wonderful charactor. The terrain there is very sttep, there is an abundance of wildlife and streams etc.My pair turned out to be excellent trail horses that had great stamina and did not spook easily. They also took to cutting cattle and roundup work.( I was severly injured in 2001 and let the owner use my horses in exchange for free cleaning etc) The ranch owner fell in love with the breed and started going down to Lousiana and Tennessee and bringing back horses to California. At last count there were 25 walkers on his ranch alone, and a good number in the area. Saddly, my mare developed severe Equine COPD and after a year of strident efforts to control it, we had to put her down. Having had two of the best horses is the world, I would never buy or want anything but a gaited horse. I would LOVE to own a Peruvian Paseo !
