"on the inside as well as out." I've been seeing this on many men's profiles, and all I have to say is, one can be beautiful or handsome or sexy, and it really doesn't matter what their size, height or race is. If you're hot, you're hot. And if you're not, you're not. I just think it's a bit ludicrous to say that and then put down specific preferences right after. I'm not saying one can't have specific preferences, because we all do, but you don't have to be a specific whatever to be beautiful. Also, not everyone is. In this day and age, I think that word is thrown around so frivolously as is "talent" or "diva." It's highly annoying.

Bonnie, I was laughing so hard reading your comments on here, because it reminds me so much about the men I attract IRL as well as online. They're often ugly as sin, morbidly obese, bad hygiene, old enough to be my father, etc. Looking at a collection of their pictures, you'd think you were looking at a book of police mugshots. It is NOT a compliment to be hit on by anyone like that. It implies that they think you can't do any better than them, and that they've actually got a chance. I'm actually GLAD when one of them lights up a cigarette IRL, because then I can say I have a policy of NOT dating smokers. Which is actually true anyway, and certainly much nicer than telling them, "I'd rather go Christmas fishing with Scott Peterson than go anywhere alone with YOU."

If one is blinded by a preconceived illusion of beauty (possibly created my product marketing) then how will that one see the beauty that resides in induviduals heart and soul?

I really get a kick out of the ones (usually men) who require that the woman be beautiful, but then won't post a picture of themselves. Had one that refused to do so, claiming he wanted to be loved for "how beautiful he was on the inside first." The moment I hear something like that, I tend to assume the worst as far as what they must look like on the outside. I'm also not overly impressed with any "inner beauty" they claim to have, since their profile text is usually quite mediocre, half the fields say "I'll tell you later," often including the AGE, and the whole evasiveness of it all seems really dishonest to me.

I agree with you Scarlettibis...What is beauty anyways...what's beautiful to me might not fit the "societal" definition of the word....not to sound trite, but there's so much truth to "beauty is in the eye of the beholder". Someone who can dig a little deeper and find beauty in people and things most people ignore or take for granted is someone I'd find worth knowing. True, we all have preferences, and yes...meeting someone beautiful inside and out is what we all hope for, but ya....how sincere is someone who says that and then lists a whole slew of "must haves" immediately after. But to be fair, I think most people on this site listed their preferences just the same (I for one did)....the site sets you up to think about those sort of things...but in reality, we all may be selling ourselves short and missing out on meeting some really fanatastic beautiful people that may not fit our initial criteria. Being open-minded is key, regardless of what you think you like ....if we'd all open our eyes a little wider we might be pleasently surprised! And meeting someone beautiful inside and out may take on a whole new meaning.

A lot of contradictions on this site, lots and lots. "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" holds true in response to your "annoyed" comment.
