Sun., Apr. 23/06 Got back home around 8:30pm, had really bad rain all the way home, but not much traffic. The cottage is close to Algonquin Park, but it's still quite early in the season so not many have opened up their cottages for the season. Just 4 girls ended up coming which was perfect, we all had our own bedrooms. Really comfortable cottage with all the amenities of home overlooking Lake Rebecca. There's something about being up north taking in all the beauty of nature that makes me feel very thankful for being able to experience it. The rock formations, the various evergreens, the clean, fresh smell in the air is something you only get at the cottage. They had a huge deck that could hold at least 100 people, and this looked out over the lake. Very peaceful and rejuvinating! Friday night there were only 3 of us and we had a great evening. Got the fire going, the music playing, the cocktails flowing and had a simple burger dinner. Lots of great conversation, loads of laughs, a little dancing and finally I packed it in at 2am! The other two stayed up till at least 3am, but I had my earplugs in and got to sleep right away in a lovely freshly washed bed. Woke up late on Sat. about 10am and no one was stirring. My g/f's dog Hera, an adorable Papillion woofed a few times and came out to greet me. I felt great because I'd had very little to drink, stepped out on the deck and just truly enjoyed the gorgeous view and the smells of the woods. The other 2 got up about half an hour later not feeling so great, but we got underway preparing a nice bacon and egg breakfast. The 4th lady was supposed to arrive at 11am, but didn't show until 1pm. Had a nice leisurely get ready and it was my turn to prepare the meal, so I made a huge pile of sandwiches, and waited for the arrival of Bev. She arrived, got settled in and we started all over again. Lots and lots of laughs, had a wonderful slide show on her laptop showing a property she'd just purchased in Panama, lazed around enjoying the fire and good company for most of the afternoon. Dinner was a fantastic sirloin, red potatoes both done on the bbq and fresh asparagus! Yummy, although a bit late 9:30pm! My g/f Kathy was on duty for Sat. dinner but had been imbibing a bit too much, so we all kicked in to make dinner happen, or it wouldn't have. One headed to bed at 10:30pm too hungover from the night before, I saw it through to midnight, but then bid everyone a goodnight and headed off myself. Sun. morning again I was the first up at 9am, got a coffee quietly and the rest of the crew got up about 10am. Had yummy omelettes for breakfast and then a huge platter of assorted fresh fruits for lunch. It was raining all day so we were confined to the cottage but played cards (euchre) and everyone fought over who didn't want me as a partner because I'm card challenged lol. I did my best, but didn't really have a clue what I was doing, but had a few laughs anyhow. We all chipped in on the clean-up, packed up our stuff and headed home about 5:30pm. All in all, it was a truly fun weekend with great, healthy food, really good music, a beautiful environment and I added this experience to my memories as another great Girls' Weekend! Very civilized, very fun. I just love the Girls' Weekends, they're always something I enjoy and look forward to, how about you?

Wow! Is this not a juvenile display of bumping? Guess someone's not happy.

Had another amazing girls' weekend Sept. 28-30'07 up north on Lake Muskoka at a g/f's cottage. This time there were only 3 of us, but it was very relaxing and exactly what I needed. The cottage is on an island so accessed only by boat, we arrived Fri. night, had a delicious, healthy homemade pizza and a few drinks, put great tunes on and finished the evening off with a hot tub. Sat. was absolutely gorgeous weather, almost like summer, so we toured her island by boat for about 45 mins. going very slowly and enjoying the beautiful scenery and cottages along the shoreline. Went back for another great lunch, more great conversation, drinks and then dinner. Again finished the evening with a hot tub, felt so relaxed and completely warmed up and slept like a log. Sun. was beautiful too, so we took a hike through the forested areas and came back to lunch and packing things up. My g/f ran us over to the marina about 4pm and we headed back home. I realized this was the smallest girls' weekend yet, but it was so much more intimate with just the 3 of us. I absolutely adore these weekends and treasure my fantastic female friends. The two I spent the weekend with I've known for over 25 years, never a cross word spoken, the kind you can count on through thick and thin. I feel very grateful for their friendship. Here's a shot from the cottage.

Hey Cutiepie! You would be more than welcome to crash our girls' weekend anytime! Maybe if we can get a plan together for this summer, you could attend too? It's going to be just the gals (sigh), but guaranteed to be fun! I for one would love meeting all you wonderful MM gals. Let's make it happen!

Hi MorningAngel! Yes it felt sooo good to be back up north! You should go now before the rush begins. I rented a lovely 100 yr. old cottage in Hall's Lake which is near Minden & although much was wrong with it, it had a charm and warmth that just plain made you feel good. We rented for 6 yrs from May to Oct. & the view from the deck was breathtaking! My favourite was to look out over the lake at sunset, through the whispering white pines and watching the reflection of the sun turn the lake into liquid gold. I often felt truly blessed for being able to experience such a moment of beauty. There's just something about Northern Ontario's beauty isn't there? I'd bypass Gravenhurst & Bracebridge on my way to our cottage, and one g/f also has a cottage on Lake Muskoka. It too is an absolutely gorgeous area! I was a boater for 14 yrs on Lake Ontario, but after getting out of it, took up cottaging for 5-6 yrs. Always looked at boating as a water condo (lol) because you'd untie & go wherever & be able to take your home with you. Then I got into cottaging and really enjoyed it, but did get sick of the 3 hr drive one way and the insane traffic, so we stopped renting 2 seasons ago. I adore being near the water, never get tired of just gazing at it, loved the rock formations and the ruggedness of it, the sounds and smells of the pines and the soft spongy earth beneath my feet, I really feel at home when I'm up north!

Hi BnB! Yes it is a blast getting together with the girls, hope we can still make it happen for this summer with a few MM ladies. Maybe we should look into renting a cottage??? Take care!

Okay.. now i REALLY miss going up to the cottage. Sounds like you had an absolutely wonderful and perfect weekend retreat to me. I've been away for so long from this area that all the friends i once had have either moved or i've lost touch with. We used to go up to the cottage on the may long weekend and have our little get away. It's been so many years since that last one. I'd almost forgotten all the memories till i read your post. Now just to make some new friends and to get away. Great area by the way. My cottages are a bit further south (family owned since it was built in the 30's/50's) Gravenhurst area. Tends to get a bit too busy on summer weekends now. Congratulations on an excellent weekend well spent.

Reflecting back on my weekend, I think the best part of it was the laughter and camaraderie. Two of my g/f's are sisters & both are lifelong cottagers. This cottage where we were is very close to Algonquin Park which has numerous bears. Two years ago they had a nuisance bear who had actually torn the door off the cottage & so the reality of a bear approaching is quite real. The youngest of the sisters is extremely paranoid about bears & we'd just finished talking about the bear that caused so much trouble 2 yrs ago, it was finally trapped by the park rangers & there haven't been any further problems recently. I was out on the deck enjoying my coffee and the view, just taking in all the sites and sounds. Out came Beth to take her dog for a quick walk. On her return, she yelled "BEAR!!!" and I ran like it was right behind me into the cottage. She pretended to be running too, but stopped at the door killing herself laughing! I burst into laughter too, but told her I'd get her back. We were both doubled over in laughter & the other two ladies wanted to know what was so funny. Later on, Kathy (Beth's sister) came out on the deck and said Beth said she's going to lock the door and then yell "Bear" and watch what we do. LOL!Fortunately she didn't, I told her one heart attack was enough. It's these funny moments that you remember so fondly. They were all laughing saying they'd never seen me move that fast! Sick sense of humour, but I loved it.

Hey Seattlesunshine! Thanks for your post, and yes it's a great tradition to start up. We've been doing it for at least 10 years, and originally started with about 40 ladies renting 6 or 7 cottages, getting together for a bonfire outside if nice and it got pretty crazy. We only did that for one year & decided we'd rather have our own little group as opposed to such a large one, much more relaxed when a smaller group gets together. My one g/f has a diary that she always brings to the weekend, and it's so much fun looking back over the crazy entries some have made depending on the level of intoxication I guess. She couldn't find the diary this time, and as we get a little older, we tend not to get so crazy (at least I do lol) and don't drink to the point of being out of control. It used to be tie one on on Friday night, recover Sat., feel normal on Sun. I now prefer to just not get that way at all, can't stand the feeling of being hungover the next day lol! But that's my personal choice, the other 2 gals certainly had their fair share this Fri. night and were definitely paying for it on Sat. I was considerate and kept the music down low, didn't talk too loud, didn't rub it in how great I was feeling, etc. lol. Get your own tradition going, it really is a fun thing to do. I must admit, I was wondering if the guys do this the way we do, nice meals, delicious cocktails, lovely bedding, keeping the place tidied up, fresh cut flowers? Oh, and one last thing, it's SOOOO nice not to have to worry about the toilet seat lol.
