Somebody asked me the other day: "Why do women place pics of their pets in their profiles?" I did not think long and hard and said: "For the same reason that men put pics of their toys - cars, bikes, boats, etc (some would put pics of a space ship if they could afford it)... people display what's important in their lives". Later I thought about it again. There is actually a big difference between taking care of a living breathing creature, especially rescued and/or sick, and polishing and dusting your Harley every day. But that is not the point. The question I would like to ask is What do think about posted pictures where people are tenderly hugging/snuggling/etc with somebody of the opposite gender, even if it has an explanation: "It is my relative, a friend of a friend, co-worker, etc". Dating sites have been created to help people meet their partners, to be able to (effectively) sift through hundreds of profiles, while a written description should give you an idea of who/what the person is, the pictures help you see what he/she looks like. During this INITIAL stage do I really care to know what your co-workers (or ex-significant others to that matter) look like? Am I here alone?

AsianAmericanIdol, You are right on, that would be the major reason (besides being hhhhmmmm... challenged otherwise) like "look how cool I am and who I can hang out with"... In this case just push "NEXT" button! Another category is pictures with celebrities! what are they trying to say with a pic posing next to, let's say, Hillary Clinton? "Look, Ma, no hands?" lol How can I put it nicely? Unless you look better than Brad Pitt or Angelina, standing NEXT to him or her WILL NOT make you look grand or smart.... but quite the opposite

Wotnow, It's easy - you write your original comment, hit REPLY/ADD, then go back to BLOGS front page, go to your own comments and do EDIT MY COMMENT, now it gives you the option of adding a picture. Don't know why MM has not set it up originally? what harm would that do?

I had the problem of not having many recent pictures of myself and many that I did have were of poor quality or all you could see was a tiny face in a sea of people. I have since remedied the situation (bought a webcam), so prehaps, even with todays technology and easy access to it, these woman just dont have any. PS: Can any one tell me how to load a pic on a reply/comment like this one ?

Peri, you've made an excellent point. Distasteful as it may seem, from a Profiler's viewpoint, people believe, trust, like, buy from, talk to and date good-looking people over non-goodlooking people. Hands down. You can't argue that behavior out of people! You can't MAKE people like you for your "big, generous heart" or your kind soul or whatever you think you've got inside. You have to make the present pretty, with bows and sparkly paper, or people won't care to open it! Case in point: My friends and I live in Hollywood North (Toronto) and we all wanted to enter this TV show competition so we got our digital cameras all polished up and I told the girls I'd do their makeup first and they said, "NO! We want to look natural!" They wanted to be on TV with all their warts and dark circles and bland skin tones! Sorry! But this was not for "Extreme Makeover!" The producers weren't looking for the narly nose job or little pea eyes or blotchy cheeks! It was a show looking for appealing men and women! So... long story short ... I fixed my old, natural, narly, blotchy self up and we took a ton of photos and they gave me some pics I didn't know they had of me, ... and I downloaded them to my profile today. I think they look better than any of the photos I've ever had on MM! I feel like, if I'm selling myself as an attractive woman, inside AND out, these photos will close the deal better than all my old pics will. And all I had to do was put on a little makeup and lie on a bed and let my goofball girlfriend stand over me and click the shutter. (Althought she tried really hard to make me laugh. (The witch!) Sorry I don't have a pic of myself with the dog or a big freakin' bass! LOL

Perihelion, I suspect that when they post pictures of themselves with a former significant other or even just a member of the opposite sex, they're saying, "Look at me! I can get an attractive partner, so you'd better look at least THIS good before you write me." Hmmm...maybe I should start doing that, since the kind of replies I get often remind me of Sepelo's deleted "butt ugly" blog.

Yes! and I did notice that many new members ask the same old question - what's up with the pictures or a lack of those? To me images are just as vital in creating an intial impression as the content of the profile. The best guidelines for posting pictures could be the same as writing your own resume when applying for a job: make sure it's about YOU and what YOU are good at, and not that you have an aunt who once saw Elvis in consert... or that a can of Pepsi looks bigger than life on your 200in flat screen TV... would you get a job like that? hmmmm....

I'm considering starting a new business to assist women in selecting pictures to post. It's become so obvious that they require some assistance in this area.
