Ever wonder how texting plays a role in dating.  Well, two dating sites did also and employed a study of 1,500 single men and women on the texting preferences in relation to dating.  Here's the scoop.

Approximately a third of singles said it was "less intimidating” to ask someone out via text message. A total of 46 percent were annoyed by the person who texted them too many times after a date while 78 percent expect a text back within 24 hours if they had a good first date.   Breaking up with someone who you causually dated was deemed as a satisfactory practice.  It was definitely not good to have your smartphone on when having sex with someone you were dating.  Finally, men expected women to text first after a date (though slightly) than did women expected men.  Overall, both genders agreeded it didn't matter who texted first.

IPhone users, it turns out, were more likely to ask a person out via text than Droid users. Droid users were more gender neutral about who should text first.  Droid users also didn't mind their significant others looking through their phone as much as iPhone users.

Interestingly, the majority of singles from both genders agree that “texting has made dating more ambiguous.” In short, the study suggested the old courtship model is dead. No longer does that man need to pursue until the woman fends him off--thanks to smartphones.

Texting at the begining of a relationship seems cold to me.  I prefer the phone for talking. When texting you can't hear the emotion behind the voice. It's easier to understand what is being said, how and why.

Interesting info Orlando.

I dated a guy for a while who mastered the art of texting. He properly set up the first date via phone, but then he started texting me in fun ways, increasing the number of texts and intensity of them until we got together.  I was soooo excited that I could hardly wait for that day to arrive. We actually continued dating for several years after that.

The worse thing is breaking up via text. One guy I was dating for 5 months broke up with me in a one line text via Blackberry. Really? What's next? Public Twitter break-ups in less than 140 characters...

That is so gutless.

Just ask Anthony Weiner...of course you're not going to get a straight answer.  He'd probably say something like...I wasn't texting, I was sexting, duh.

Years ago when people didn't have automobiles, a man and woman would write love letters to one another and send by US mail.  Of course texting is short and not like a letter but nothing really has changed, just the mode.

Asking a woman out via text seem wrong to me. It's like the guy doesn't have the cojones to ask her out in person.  Call me old fashioned but I want to be face to face when I ask a woman out...or vocally on the phone.  Just works better for me.

I think texting has its place. My kids text me all the time. I find it nice when, say I'm running a few minutes behind, just shoot a quick text, hey I'm going to be 10 minutes late etc... Now that being said, I have met alot of women, who it's their main point of communication,, that drives me nuts. One of my friends is like a teenager,,we were meeting for a drink/happy hour and he was texting women from a couple of different dating sites he's on,,I told him, put that thing away or I'm out,, your like a freaking teenager,,Man that pisses me off !   LOL

I do like that fact that the car company's now have voice texting in the car, and also handsfree dialing and talking. Being I'm on the road so much, it makes it really easy to communicate with people.

I never text. I can speak much faster than I can type. Also texting is a method of expressing oneself with no desire to hear an immediate reply. Parishiltonization. I don't even like mobile phones. I had one right out of college in 87 when they were cool, and unique, but now they're not and we've traded mobility for sound quality. I have one for emergencies, business, and during travel, but nothing more.

Just yesterday I was talking to a lady who was on one and it went dead. When I called right back it went fast busy, so I called an hour or so later and she was clearly pissed off at me. She told me she was busy I asked if she'd like to call back when not busy, she said yes, and never called.

Lot's of people don't even have land line phones anymore. Sound quality is important to me. How often do mobiles simply disconnect? Too often.
