Yet again Freedom of speech is under attack this time from the home of the free and land of the brave.  I have been reading with interest a number of articles about Emmet Burns Jr, a democrat (sic) legislator in Maryland who has written to the owner of the Baltimore Ravens to tell him to stop his employee Brendon Ayanbadejo making public pronouncements on his support for Gay Marriage.
Whether you agree with gay marriage or not it is you right to put forward your opinion and if you are in the lucky position of a professional footballer who knows he will get an audience then it his right to be able to put forth that view.  It was a right I thought was envisioned in the US constitution and was something millions gave their lives for in numerous wars.  To have the audacity to try and gag this man's view is crass and should it be successful is the thin end of the wedge.  We have the right to think and voice those thoughts as long as we are not inciting others to violence or intolerance.  It is vital we protect freedom of speech and Emmet Burns jr should be ashamed of his efforts to gag free speech.

sometimes it is not wise to comment when other people make comments because your only adding fuel to the issue when it probably was going to go away without any attention anyway but this does not effect my support against any politician who also speaks their opinion.

HUH?????????????????????????????????

I'm not sure why it's relevant to point out the legislators political party affiliation other than perhaps you're against that particular political party. Personally, as an Independent, I don't think either party has a monopoly on stupidty or sanity. LOL

Having said that, I agree with you, the legislators actions are anti-freedom of speach.

Oh, you're right about that:  No political party has a monopoly on stupidity---not to mention on arrogance.  Sigh..................

Gotta agree with you that it's wrong to suppress any attempt at free speech--whether I agree with what's being said or not.

Just Googled Emmet Burns, Jr.  Don't like him much.

The football player in question has every right to voice his opinion.

Which opinion, BTW, I'm still on the fence on.  I can't for the life of me think of any reason that Gay Marriage would threaten me, a heterosexual, or any marriage I would enter in to...

Heck.  Just plain "HECK."

Truthfully, bottom line, I don't much care.  Which is why I can't get excited about either position.  If gays want to marry, I see no reason why they shouldn't.  When my friends who say that would be a sin get in my face, I can't understand their arguments.

Really, from my point of view--who the hell cares who marries whom???  It's none of my business anyway.

Let's see....  both parties have a liberal side and both have a conservative side and what's in the middle are the independents... but, thinking about it, that doesn't really explain the differences... sooo hmm... how do you explain the political parties to a non-american?

OK, how about this:

There are basically two kinds of people in the world: Those who believe its every man for himself, only the strong survive and you're only going to get what you work for AND there's the other kind who believe that we all have a responsibility to help each other get to the end and that if you are fortunate enough to have extra then you have a responsibility to help others.  I think the first type are Republicans and the second type are Democrats.

And obviously, no society could survive in either of those belief systems were in constant control and I think most Americans are more towards the center of those two belief systems.

Easyman I am British so have no afiliation to either I pointed out his party simply because as a Democrat it suggests democracy and I was always told that the Democrats were the more liberal of the main parties
