The truth has been exposed. The radical Republican platform will take women's reproductive rights back to the the dark ages of back alley coat hanger abortions, even in the case of rape caused pregnancy.
The GOP Vice president has even condemed hormonal birth control. They already made it clear when they held up the government by not voting for a budget because they insisted on adding a clause removing funding for planned parenthood (birth control and medical help for poor women willl PREVENT ABORTION). This is a radical group who really only cares about intruding into our personal lives, our gay friend's lives with their religious agenda, not the budget.
Also remember: they vote against regulations to stop global warming. without clean air and water, nothing else will matter.
I will vote for the party that wants to protect the environment and agrees to stay out of our personal lives as it is probably right that no matter which party is in, balancing the budget will not happen quickly. The two wars (Iraq for oil) both started under Republican Presidents, have been way too expensive at a billion a day and will take years to recover from no matter who is in office after how for in debt W got us. Vote for the social and environmental issues that DO and will affect our lives.
How any woman can vote Republican with this platform is beyond me. If you make more than 1  million a year, you are the only ones who will be effected by removal of the current tax breaks and if you are luck enough to make that much, be thankful  you are in that group.  I am wealthy woman and no matter who is President, I will pay my fair share and not complain. OVERPOPULATION IS A PROBLEM IN THE WORLD and a child brought into this world unwanted will forever feel unwanted, at least some part of themselves. Survival rate of children is not that much of an issue in this day and age.

I'm 100% with you except for one thing.  Those home loans were being handed out when Bush was in office also.  I remember this specifically because at the time I was buying gold and calling for the housing market to collapse.  My friends dubbed me a idiot...they now claim they can't remember that I told them to buy gold.  Apparently they have selected memory. :)  I have a lot of respect for Bush but his management of the government's (our) finaces left much to be desired.  Of course Obama has magnified the debt problem much more than Bush.  And you are correct it's just a matter of time before the economy goes into a tailspin.  Everyone needs to listen as the warning signs are everywhere.

Dak~
Why do you say you "have a lot of respect for Bush"? What exactly did he do that made you respect him so much?

Best I can tell, he inherited a budget surplus, then proceeded to let the neo-cons push him around because he didn't have a clue about foreign policy (2 profoundly poorly executed wars)....then gave the pharmacuetical companies a huge windfall (Medicare Part D) and gifted a huge tax cut to the rich.....none of which were paid for. And does anyone remember those $300 and $600 checks the Bush government sent out to all of us in the mail? Also known by another name....Stimulus!! He did it twice. ALL of it was deficit spending!! There were no budget cuts to offset the spending.

He basically spent like a drunken sailor, destroying the American economy and reputation abroad.

I heard one small business owner say, "We don't need more tax cuts. We need customers!"
Trickle-Down economics has been historically proven....several times....Not to Work!  When you pump money into the working class.....they are the ones that actually spend it in ways that fuel the economy....and the money ends up bubbling up to the top in the end anyway.

IMO....this country needs to raise taxes, cut spending and INVEST in itself.

PS: WWWW~ Congress does not pass out home loans. That would be THE BANKS and mostly the big banks on Wallstreet. What Congress and Clinton did, was listen to them (Graham et al).... and pass deregulation so they could play their shell game. The Banks/CEOs/Hedge Fund managers made billiions!!

I am VERY mad at Obama for not prosecuting any of these shiesters!!!

I used to be a Republican.  That was 10 years ago.

I tried being a Democrat but that didn't fit either.

Now, I'm an Independent... middle of the road... I can see both sides of the argument and find truth in the middle.

Having said that, Ike was the last Republican president to balance the budget but every Republican since Ike has claimed they were gonna do it...  I'm pretty much over that whole lie.

As for voting, I will stick with a bad plan vs no plan.  With a bad plan you at least know what you're gonna get and you can plan accordingly.  With no plan you have no ability to protect yourself or those you love.  Obama has a bad plan, Romney has no plan... and trickle down has already been proven to not work.

Absolutely Hope!  :))  There's no point in being a mean girl.  It really is quite unattractive!

(Not to mention many other reasons)

If someone has a differing opinion...that's ok.....but provide/deliver a well reasoned position to the conversation.  Additionally, some  supportive facts, figures or quotes would be helpful.  Don't just lob insults and/or nasty remarks....because you lose total credibility.

Hmmmm.....seems like making personal attacks on the author is not that useful in promoting civil discussions. Don't you have anything substantive to offer regarding the issues?

Personal attacks are like reality TV, no one really likes it/them, but for some reason we can't stop watching.

It is funny, blame it on Bush. Well, Bush has been gone a long time and things are much worse.  btw, did you know that things didn't really start to tank economically until the Demobrats took over congress and started handing out loans on expensive new houses to people that couldn't even afford to pay rent on a small house?

OUCH! What did I walk in on... LOL...

HI Ladies! (and Gentlmen)

Lady DI.. I second your thoughts. You and I have viewed things in same manner, as well as differed in varying degrees. but never have we been disrespectful... You're just sometimes.. Wrong.. And I know this!! Bwahahahaha! ;)

BARRISTER.. I can't for the life of me figure WHY someone who should be trying to convince someone of their point reverts to personal attacks and states nothing of substance?

JENKNEE.. I hear you on the voter fraud.. I think Florida needs recounts b/c there are too many "bluehairs" doing the counting! LOL

DON / PAT.. LMAO!! I'm voting for GROUCHO! I think he's actually hanging with Elvis, Morrison and Hendrix in Nashville. I hear they put on a show every Friday night! ;)

WWWW... I agree... Abortion, etc.. is the LEAST of the worries of our country... (except regarding "being told what to do"... )

LIV... I felt the same things you mentioned. It can be scary enough without offering information. I hope anyone reading will take precautions when meeting people online... I dislike cynicism... BUT.. reality is... we must protect ourselves.. It's no laughing matter when someone starts stalking you. It's very scary, as those type of ppl are clearly "not right" in the mind... or heart...

And no, the wars were not fought for oil.  Mussies have been and still are trying to kill anyone not of their religion, all over the world, a continuation of their 1400 year old evil goals.  There have been over 19,000 terrorist attacks since 9/11 in a dozen countries..  I recommend you learn something about the real threat and quit trying to blow smoke. Read about how they have killed approximately 150-250 million people during their history. (who knows the real number) and nothing has changed. If you can read, there is no excuse today for not knowing the facts and the threat.

When the economy collapses, which it probably will, there will be no more liberals. There will just a bunch of depressed and stupid feeling people wondering how they could have believed the liberal nanny state, socialist BS and wondering where they are going to find some food, gasoline, maybe even water.  I do hope you have a stockpile out in the country somewhere, somewhere protected, with survival minded people around,  because you may need such. btw, I highly recommend everyone getting on some of the survival sites and learning all they can about living independently.  I certainly do, every day.

In 1887 Alexander Tyler, a Scottish history professor at the University of Edinburgh, had this to say about the fall of the Athenian Republic some 2,000 years prior: "A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until
the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse over loose fiscal policy, (which is) always followed by a dictatorship."

To author: You say you are a progressive. Progressive is just another word for socialism and socialist are really communist who didn't have to take over a country with guns. Socialist take over democratic countries by the votes of people who don't want to work usually, who want benefits they haven't paid for, the nanny state people. Socialism has never,  and never will work, nanny states just go bankrupt. Look at Greece, Spain, etc. right now.    In other words, your opinions and those like you have ruined this country so I guess your opinions have zero value to me or anyone who is really knowledgable about business, investing, economics, etc.  Maybe you should reconsider your politics and get on board with people who might have a chance, granted a small chance, of making this country prosperous again.  The issues you brought up are the least of our problems and as someone pointed out they will never happen anyway. The problem I have with Republicans is they are way too socialist for me, however, the Democrats are totally so. Which is the lesser evil?

oh, btw, welcome to blogging and the real world of realistic views on socialism.

NRichtoo,

I can't help but reiterate Hoping's points about your profile with regards to safety. To be brutally honest with you, your profile appears to be asking to be scammed. Tone it down a little bit. You definitely do not want everyone on here knowing where you live - but you have placed all the identifiers on here - the name, the location, the identifying Audi convertible etc etc. It is almost like giving someone a cheeky road map on how to find you. Take out the location - honestly, there is no need to keep repeating that you own your home - talking about loads of equity in it etc - it is your home so leave it at that. Don't attract undesirables to yourself. You set your age limit and clearly wrote about it further in your profile, yet you can see your 44-year-old suitor completely ignoring that clearly important prerequisite and zooming for you. He is casting his net! He claims to be an executive of WHO, earning $500,000 p.a, but look at his cellphone photos of himself  - see the general office where he works? WHO exedutive indeed! If he earns $500,000 can't he afford to send you an e-mail rather than splashing his interest on your page? I know being married as long as you've been and coming back to the dating scene after such a long time can have the effect upon us of being a newbie. And I am sorry for your loss.

Be safe, be careful. Your children and twin brother look very lovely!

I wish you all the best on here and welcome to the blogs!

Liv.

WELCOME to MM and the BLOGS LORI...

I agree with most others who have posted .. Looks as if you are trying to use "scare tactics" regarding womens reproductive and back ally abortions etc.. I do not understand your politics .. but can appreciate your fire and passion... I just feel you are wrong.. and I am Pro-CHOICE! ;)

I do wish to state as someone who is probably more a "fiscal conservative" with a line shooting down the middle regarding some social issues... (Republicans want to abolish abortion, yet believe in death penalty?.. Hmmm... BUT.. Demos are opposite?.. TOO MANY RADICALS IF YOU ASK ME!) But, I do grow tired of hearing about "global warming".. I believe it to be a "natural cycle" from Mother Nature.. and in all seriousness.. we haven't lived long enough as humans calculating weather to know any differently! Mother Earth was here long before we arrived! She's possibly even been through"global cooling." ;) BUT.. My point is.. I live with roomies and 1 is a Republican.. the other a "natural/ wants everything organic/ no pesticides etc... LIBERAL ... But it's my roomie and I who RECYCLE.. and we complain about how we see her milk jugs in the garbage and confessed we both dig in garbage and place her things in our RECYCLE bin when we see it! She drinks wine nightly, yet we've never seen a bottle with her name on it! We are outside city limits and he and I take turns shelpping our recyclables to the center. I took (2) 32 gallon bags loaded in my truck just today along with boxes! I was also the one who purchased the new trash can so we could have a lid to cover in hopes of no bug attraction! So for one to consider one side is more "concerned" about the environment than others is simply INCORRECT. IT'S AN INDIVIDUAL DECISION... And Republicans care just as much as Democrats. I typically find ones who don't recycle just LAZY.. and LAZY comes in all forms!  Just b/c the "party" isn't the one who buys into "global warming" is no indication they don't care. PERSONAL CONSCIOUS...

I read your profile.. I enjoyed seeing a woman who is proud of her age, and knows what she desires! Recent photos, etc. I was impressed with how forward you are in what you seek. I would caution you though, as I see this is new to you. Lori.. there are STALKERS out there.. I'm not even going to get into SCAMMERS.. (That's a whole other issue.) I am concerned for your SAFETY... and you have the community you live in and your home picture.. I realize it is gated.. but there are devious ones out there who can and will find you if they so choose. I've dealt with this type thng before, so I feel strongly about cautioning you.. You are very honest on your profile etc. BUT NOT EVERYONE IS.. You find the wrong one.. and he can make your life a living hell.. Being married 28 years shelters you... (Sorry about your loss BTW...)

Best wishes in your quest.. and WELCOME to the bogs.. I hope the regulars around here can assist you with your current status of voting for a man who is unworthy to be our President. I am not a huge fan of Romney either honestly.. but what the United States needs most.. is to MAKE MONEY... not more government rule! And Mitt may not have the most "suave" air about hm.. but at least he's a man who knows how to make money..

AND THAT'S THE BOTTOM DOLLAR! ;)

BE SAFE!! ;)

Quoting Orlando__:

It is easy to label one party extremist but it is best to put it into perspective historically.  There is no political party that calls itself "right-wing extremist" or "left-wing extremist."  Those labels come from individuals or other parties.  It is name calling.  In the long run, it serves no purpose but to create angst and anger.  I believe any political viewpoint can go too far right or too far left.  There are many examples of voilence on both sides of the political spectrum.  Politics kills at an extreme level.  Consider the DEATHS of the following because of political viewpoints:

  • Congo Free State (1886-1908): 8,000,000
  • First World War (1914-18): 15,000,000
  • Russian Civil War (1917-22): 9,000,000
  • Soviet Union, Stalin's regime (1924-53): 20,000,000
  • Second World War (1939-45): 66,000,000
  • People's Republic of China, Mao Zedong's regime (1949-1975): 40,000,000
  • 1st and 2nd Chinese Civil War, Nationalist Era (1928-37; 1945-49): 7,500,000
Korean War (1950-53): 3,000,000  (and another 3,000,000 died from North Korean political policies)
  • Rwanda and Burundi (1959-95): 1,350,000
  • Second Indochina War (1960-75): 4 200,000

There are far more sub-political conflicts I could have listed that have resulted in the deaths of tens of millions.  My point is this.  Politics serves more to be devisive.  The lack of communication and name calling causes more harm than good.

ongo Free State (1886-1908): 8,000,000

Quote: "My point is this. Politics serves more to be devisive."  LOL isn't that what I said. :)

Now ask yourself...Why?  The answer: If problems were solved then we could make government smaller and thus many of these guys would loose their job and their cash cow.   So divide the people and never solve anything but make them think we are trying.  That's the game, while they ALL are wealthy and living large, Americans struggle.   The problem is that they've run America into the ground and have no idea how to fix it.  Many more Americans will suffer in the years to come as I have my doubts anything will change.

Obama is clearly a socialist, with a socialist agenda.  Socialism does not work. Thus far, Capitalism has proven to be a success.  But as we drift more toward Socialism we see the economy starting to falter.  One might thing that it were cyclical if not for problems that seem to have no easy solution.  And I don't think any politicians (or at least not many) are willing to take the hard road.  As much as I hate to use this cliche, they'll keep "kicking the can down the road" at least until that can falls apart and turns to dust.

Just think about this.  Why is it that when we look at the politician's personal finances they are so well in order, yet they have our country's finances F'ed up?  Funny isn't it?

Also, on the subject of Abortion:  There was a time when both parties were on the same side.  They had to be, because the "people" were in unity on the issue.  And it would have meant political death to go against the people.
