Why do some parents buy and allow their children to play violent video games which are 18 rated when their kids are 7,8, 9 years old. It just amazes me. I hear from some of the kids in my class that they play games such as Black Opps, Call of Duty etc.I just wonder how they think this is appropriate.

Some parents will buy their children anything to get rid of them and out of the way. Parenting by PROXY! They let the video games, inappropriate TV programmes etc parent their children. That is the sad fact. Some of the parents do not vet these games or anything else their kids may be involved in.

P.S.: What about posting this on that other site we both know and love that's threatening to go under for lack of users? It just might garner some activity. And you know we need more activity there.

I don't know the answer, Sarah. Not defnitively anyway. But if I were to judge by the only way I have to judge, which is watching parents and how they behave with their children when they're in my store, I'd have to say it's because the busy lives they lead renders them too damn tired to bother disciplining their kids. Dad works a full-time job, Mom works a full-time job. Come evening, when everyone is home, both parents are so exhausted they can barely get up off the couch to do the dishes or put in a load of laundry much less go upstairs to see what their kids are up to in their rooms on their computers.

Sarah;
I agree. There are too many violent games that small children are exposed to with no parental supervision. These games have become BABYSITTERS. Parents get so bogged down with everyday life that time is not being spent with the children. Instead they are making sure the little ones have whatever they want to keep them entertained. Now, we know what kids want thanks to the magic of TV and the constant barrage of commercials about the video games.
It's not surprising that young kids become bullies, abusers and even worse.
