I'm learning to drive at the moment but I'm not sure about my instructor. He is an ex police manager and I just don't like his style.

I dislike his inappropriate comments. I don't like being shouted at. The first couple of lessons he made me feel like a bag of nerves and I felt this was just not right as he is supposed to be building my confidence. Plus driving is supposed to be a positive experience. What annoyed me the most during lesson two we were at a junction and I needed to turn left. There was traffic behind me and he shouted a million things at once and I didn't know what to do, So he said: "You are IGNORING ME SO I WON'T HELP YOU! At the moment when I felt panicky instead of reassuring me he abandoned me I was actually tempted to stop the car altogether at that moment and get out and walk home.

I told my best friend all this amongst other things and she thinks I should fire him.

So yesterday I had a word with the instructor. Well I didn't say everything. I didn?t wanted to create an atmosphere. I didn?t say I don't want to hear your inappropriate comments and phrases. I mean I'm with the AA (not alcoholics anonymous but a proper driving school). I told him I was not happy driving on proper roads straight off like we have been doing as I still don't have the feel for the car, the gears, stopping and starting. I mean he would be shouting at me on the main roads. I mean I was doing 50mph on my first lesson before really having proper control of the car.

So yesterday I gave him one more chance. We did what I wanted to do. We went to a quiet industrial estate, circled around the block, stopping starting, slowing, stopping turning left, right, changing diff gears, mini roundabout. Then we ventured onto the proper roads and I felt so much better. If only he did that at the beginning. So overall I felt happier with the lesson. I didn?t feel like a bag of nerves. So I didn?t fire him. However, he did another thing that was SOOO not on. He slapped my arm hard enough it hurt when we were going round a roundabout as I made a minor oops. He was like- ooo are you not talking to me now as I hit you. Like it was funny or something. I told Nicola and she still thinks I should fire him.

What do you think?

I fired him. Here was me going to give him another chance tomorrow but my feelings were building up and I was worried he was going to hit me again.

I finally told my mum and bro at dinner tonight. My mum and bro thought I was crazy for not saying anything and my bro basically handed me the phone to call AA to cancel tomorrows lesson.

So anywhere I started off the call really composed. Hi, I want to change driving instructors please and a full refund of my lessons. The guy on the telephone who sounded really nice was like what is the reason? I was like my reasons and emotions took over. I was a complete goof and cried down the phone. I told him he shouted at me, threw hissy fits, said he wouldn't help me when I needed his help and he slapped me hard last lesson. I forgot to tell about the comments but I was trying to compose myself. I told him I was going to have another lesson tomorrow but was worried in case he hit me again. I requested a female instructor. The guy was so nice he told me my complaint had been passed to management and that the the other instructor had been contacted. I didn't want him showing up tomorrow or calling me.

So I have now been allocated to a new instructor, a lady and guess what her name is? Faith- no joke. She phoned me up and sounds really nice. So hopefully things will be much better now. :-) My next lesson will be next Wednesday.

sarah :-)

I think he has good knowledge and experience of the roads. He has an advanced drivers licence too but in terms of teaching I think there must be better instructors out there.

I don't think he means to be awful. I don't know why I'm defending him

I prob should of fired him already. If he hits me again. Its over. I'm not paying for that I should really address the comments too. Yes a lot of its sexual in nature not often directed at me but I don't really want to hear any of that. I hired a professional driving school and that?s what I expect. I'm even thinking if I do fire him to get a female instructor next time. Less hassle.

Situspro and conyers thanks for the offer but yeah i'm on the other side of the road and too far away. :-) You can have a sigh of relief now. hehe

Love the pic Queen- that?s just like me on a bad hair day. hehe

Or you could go with the passive-aggressive driving school.I previewed their video, and they're quite liberal as to rules of the road...Like...You could use your right turn signal when turning right...Or not,or,Watch it...That yellow light between the red and green seems to be turning pink the more you drive.

It is all how invasive you wish your instructor to be titrated to the level of proficiency you wish to have in your arsenal for the DVLA officer.

At LV1 Enterprizes, you will find the level you seek. Our professional instructors are carfully trained to administer to you the precised amount of road knowledge according to the detailed aspects of your entrance questionaire. Our instructors are politiclly correct,Gender friendly, and have a high threshold level to emotional outbursts.
So stress less&drive your best with an instructor from the LV1 Driving School. You'll thank us,and yourself that you did.

Sarah,
¿
While a slap is over the line,¿ I would ask myself ONE question:¿ Am I going to be a good driver when we finish?¿ If that answer is yes......
(Sometimes an a**hole will make you concentrate better, in the "I'll show him" vein.)
OK, I'd really ask another question: What "inappropriate comments?"¿ If too personal or sexual in nature, I'd can him, even if a good instructor.
¿
And I'd also be happy to teach you how to drive, but then you'd be driving on the wrong side of the road.:):):)

If anything you may be better prepared for the actual driving test. The officer who tested me sounds a little like your instructor. He did not touch me in any way. He told me I didn't listen well while he directed me to use the turn signals, breaks, etc., talking from behind the car, when I actually didn't understand him sometimes and could not hear him at times.
Also, drive the same type of car you trained in, or train more in the car you will be testing. I tested in a larger car than I trained and it made the parallel parking test more difficult.

Fire him. Any officer that would touch a woman in that way is not to be trusted. They are trained never to touch anyone...unless it is demanded.

Find someone who lets you feel safe and comfortable when you are with them.

I'd teach you for $0. No hassle, just plain and simple lessons.

Hey Sarah,
¿
If you're paying - I'd get rid of him.¿ He's not giving you what you want or need and the fact he slapped you for doing something wrong speaks volumes.¿ I agree with your friend, fire his sorry arse.
¿
Learning to drive is difficult and you don't need to have the added pressure of being instructed by someone who makes you this uncomfortable.
¿

What is love? Love is feeling comfortable and safe with someone but still getting weak knees when they walk into a room and smile at you. :)
