Well my New Year Resolutions are:

1)To complete two 10k runs for charity.

2)To travel more as I didn't get a chance to go abroad last year.

3) To hopefully find a Mr Right or at least to focus my time to finding that special someone.

The first two I have pretty much fixed as I anounced on f...book that I was going to do the runs, so no backing out now. Plus I'd never back out as its for special charities to me.

The second is sorted. I've booked up a Nile Cruise as this is something I've always wanted to do. Sooo excited!!

The third, well I signed up to match before Christmas. Not this site, a different one. So shall see where that takes me...

Sarah :-)

Well I've landed myself a coffee date with a guy from match this Saturday. Would you believe he is training to be a transplant surgeon. I better not bring up the hand transplant topic! lol

Hoping,  There is differences in how dating sites are scripted.  The way Match does it's email and wink system is totally geared toward the house and not the player.  MM does not operate in that way, thus it is a better site (although less members) for the possibility of meeting someone.  Match is owned by ClearChannel.  As I told you before, I know every inch and more of how a dating site works.  And yes, they are all designed to make money, just some less deceptive than others.

Hey DAKOTA...

I don't see a big difference with either site. (Match or MM... )

I can't contact anyone if I don't "pay to play." On either sight I can wink or favorite regardless of membership status...

The only difference is on this site should someone contact me, I may respond. THIS is the #1 Best feature on this site as opposed to Match. But not much good if there aren't many players. I do not know if one can respond to winks on this site? I don't respond to winks regardless. If a man is interested, he will WRITE me. Perhaps why so many women get scammers is they respond to winks?

JEN.... I honestly don't get scammers so I don't understand? How are men trying to scam? Do they write you asking for money? Or do you mean they are just jerks seeking a good time? (like scamming of the heart?) Of course, I am fairly shallow, so when I do have contact with a man, I don't continue if I don't feel chemistry will be involved. WHAT'S THE POINT? But maybe I have had scammers contact me, I just don't allow it to go far enough for them to try and scam me? I do make exception for my guy buddies here.. I like my guy friends here, so I yack with several of them, regardless of attraction. I actually don't even consider that part in communicating. The men here are my sweethearts! :)

MONICA... Poor thing! I hope JEN is correct, as I have heard the "3" theory as well! Baby doll, you are a very pretty girl and over the next 20 years will only get prettier... Men will want to date you just B/C of your looks honey, so beware, but also be complimented. The right man will come along and see the you inside as well.... :)

Match does not take profiles down. The person must take the profile down. However, when searching one should search for "most recent activity" and one can do this without paying. On this site however, (MM), you can't search efficiently unless you pay.

SARAH.... My son loves his Spartan races!! Some people just love playing in the mud!! :)

I've decided to focus on my body and health this year! I quit smoking September 11, so that is a great start for me! :)

I was on match at one point and the thing I didnt like is they keep members profiles up even if they arent active on the site ... Also didnt have much luck on there seemed like most of the men were looking for a good time and thats not my thing... Im a nice person and easy to get along with and I had to walk out on 3 of my dates because they were completely inappropriate.

Good luck !!!

Wow, u walked out of 3 dates, that is pretty bad!! They say bad stuff happens in 3's so just maybe you will have a good one next time. Good luck with that.

I agree that they keep up inactive profiles, which I hate but the last time I went on there (months ago), I noticed a significant rise in how many scammers I came across. For me it must have been 75% of them, seriously! I seem to be a magnet for them  :(

One other point is a lot of the men on Match I also see on a different, free site I'm on and they seem to  be on both sites forever where I just visit match once a yr. or so. We call them serial daters.

It doesn't mean you cant find someone on Match. My girlfriend did, they aren't official yet but they're getting married :)

Hi Monica,

Nice to see you back on the blogs.  Here is the biggest problem with how Match operates.  There are 3 user levels.  Visitor, Member, Paying Member.  As a visitor, Match's first task is to get you to sign up as a Member.  They do this by limiting availability of some features (fair enough).  Then you become a Member of Match, you fill out a profile, just to check things out.  You come back the next day and you have a email and a wink.  That's great except you cannot even view who sent either.  It could be that cute person or that guy that looks like me. :)  So, now your only option (if you want to know) is to pay Match money for a membership.  So you become a paying member.  You check your wink and you are disappointed because it's me. :(  But then you check your email and it's that cute guy you were interested in.  Well, you are a paying member so, no problem, you'll just send him a email to start talking.  But what you don't know is his membership expired yesterday.  You send him a email and now he can't view who sent it.  He's already been a member with no luck, so he just tells himself it's that really ugly girl (my twin sister) and you never hear from him.  That is just one of the problems with Match...it's great for them as it entices members to join, but it's not so good for members.

Years ago, I worked on dating sites.  I devised a much better method where maybe the website wouldn't make as much, but the customer would have much more success.

Just looked up Spartan races. Omg that looks crazy! lol I'm not sure I'd be able to jump over the walls though but the muddy running is something I'm quite used to with the weather conditions recently. Had to wash my lovely pink and white trainers the other day as they were looking disgraceful. lol

Hey GANG!

SARAH, my son runs those, (or something similar) and he also has also participated in "Spartan races." How I would enjoy seeing that. SARAH covered in mud racing against big burly men! HA! You'd give them a run for their money! ;)

Lady DI... So sorry to hear you are under the weather! :( Do you recommend flu shots? I've never had one before, but know some who get them religiously! Good luck on your home sell and travel for FUN and not work??? What's that!! LOL...

DAKOTA.. I think all the date sites are geared tomake money and don't care if anyone ever really stays together.. I mean, if they really worked, they'd make less money! ;)

LIV.. 2013 is going to be AWESOME!!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR ALL... and best wishes on your resolutions!

Good luck keeping your resolutions Sarah!  A lot of people here are getting into running obstacle courses or Mud Runs as teams. Besides being a challenge, they seem like a lot of fun.

Hey everyone,

Yeah they definitely want to make money Dakota as the sub fees are quite pricey but I figured that may attract more serious people if they are willing to spend.  I signed up a few years ago too and met a really nice guy but he is routed to London and I am routed to Scotland now. So I think it's worth another try.

Yeah I hope I don't get unwell on the Nile. Many people do. I will make sure I'm prepared for any eventualities. It's going to be pretty hot there too and I am prone to heat rash in ridiculous heats. Although I heard that if you take antihistamine before and I think during your stay that can prevent that. Will check with the pharmacist obviously.

The 10k run shouldn't be too bad. I think that's just over 6 miles and I'm already doing around the 4 mile mark. Just had to wash my trainers as my once white and pink trainers were looking pretty discraceful due to muddy conditions.

I think January can sometimes be a bad time to start things or people sometimes give themselves unachievable goals. So I've more or less cheated slightly by making my goals achievable.  Although the 3rd one is a possibility... I do like to try and map out my year.

Hope you get over your flu soon Diana. It can really take it out of you. Good luck in selling your house and your travel adventures. It's good for the soul.

Good luck with your goals RealtorLulu.  What kind of book are you writing?

Sarah :-)

Sarah - 10K run? Brave, brave girl! That is wonderful. Enjoy your holiday and I wish you all the best with no 3 at the other site. You absolutely deserve it.

As for me, I don't make new year resolutions - but 2013 is going to be such a great year!

Liv.

Good Luck in all 3.  Make sure you harden the feet before the runs and take care to avoid blisters and chafing.

Nile cruise always check the water bottle seal has not been broken and beware of ice in drinks

Cannot say a word on 3rd other than cant see ant reason why you should not find a nice partner

Wow...those are indeed good ones Sarah.  I like the Nile Cruise idea, but didn't know they had them.  Be careful!

Mine will probably be to sell my house, move into something smaller and then travel...for fun!  In the immediate future.....get over the flu.  *sigh*  :))

Best wishes!

Hi Sarah,  Just so you know.  "Match" is much more interested in making money than their subscribers finding love...It's in how their email system opperates.  With that said, I found someone on Match and fell in love with her...so it is possible.

I hope all your NewYear's resolusions are successful.

Cheers
