Majorca Sort by:

So I am a bit late in writing this blog but I have been pretty busy.

So.... I went away for two weeks in July to Majorca to a place called Camp de Mar on the south west coast. It was beautiful. I didn't really know Majorca that well only briefly visiting Palma on previous cruises. I knew it was going to be a nice place but the island exceeded my expectations. There is really more to Majorca than I thought.

I went on loads of trips. We  ventured to the north of the island visiting a monastery in the mountains. These mountains were huge. It reminded me of the wine lands in South Africa. The bus drivers deserve a medal, how they manage to manoeuvre their vehicles on tight bends with scary cliff drops. The monastery had sustained damage to their roof after a storm hit the island. Their insurance policy would not cover the cost ironically as it was an act of god.  So their way of funding the damage was to sell roof tiles for 2 euros. You dedicate the roof tile to a loved one (my dad) and then it will go up on the roof. So that's what I did. We then when on the orange blossom trail. Venturing into this gorgeous town,  hopping on the tram and going on this old fashioned train that takes you through the mountains.

We also visited the Caves of Drach. That was amazing seeing all the stalagmites and stalictites and an underground lake, They put on a sound and light show. They had this orchestra on a rowing boat playing famous classical music. It was so unique and amazing.

We visited a lot of different towns and markets. My favs being Sollerr and Pollensa. Just gorgeous. If I ever return to Majorca I'd probably go there.

I went to this show called Son Amar. Great acts in the show,  although seemed very Americanised. I was expecting a more Spanish feel to the show. The show came with dinner which was beyond ghastly (inedible). If they can't cook they should just stick to doing a show or charge dinner separately and do a proper restaurant thing. The acts on the show were amazing. Not sure I was keen on the horse performing though. I dont like animals being used as entertainment.

I went to Palma to see the spectacular cathedral and view the castle. I really wanted to buy a painting from an artist as I tend to do that in European cities. However, the people there were not artists. They all had the same paintings. Some trying to pretend it's there work. I was not fooled. It is a shame though. There is definitely an opportunity for a proper artist to do well there.  I did spot one piece if artwork done by a guy from the market. It was a pottery picture of a majorcan home. However, it would of been too heavy for my case. Maybe its available online. Who knows... When we were in Palma, we stopped to have the most delicious paella I have ever had

So yes if you have never been. Majorca is definitely worth a vist.

Yes well worth a visit. My next holiday plans is for a USA trip, spending a few days in NYC. Then maybe venture to a few other parts. Although this prob won't happen until next summer and it all depends on how much I can save. I've looked into this before and I end up changing my mind due to cost. However going to be 30 next year so would quite like to do it for that reason.

Hey Liv, the only message I go is that you had answered something but it won't let me view anything as I am not a paying member.
