a bit behind in my blogging...
as predicted, saugahatchee was basically dormant...though the bradford pears were spectacular...the problem is they are on the entrance road and never managed a picture...
the team result was very much as it has been for 15 years (or more...we can't remember...we're old)...bottom half of the field though our young flat belly had the lead in the amateur division after round one...
i suppose a total re-think of the beach house trip followed by the golf tournament is now in order...but at least i have year to work it out...
sorry for the minimal info...but the days at this tournament are rather full...

no beach house this year...but the golf tournament is on...
a bit earlier this year so the grass will be mostly dormant and the azaleas are unlikely to be out so any pics will be a bit more drab than usual....ah well....
must do what we can with the tools at hand...;-)

no 'rite of spring' trip this year...at least not the first part...
just 'too many balls in the air' this year so i am very reluctantly skipping the 'beach house' part of the trip but will be heading south in a little more than a week for the 'golf tournament' portion...
first time visitors to this blog will not have a clue what this is about...others might recall last year's notes and pics...

last night and this morning we are having our third accumulating snow event here in the nashville area in just over two weeks...
here's my question...

as you might imagine, we don't get many significant 'snow events' here in middle tennessee
well...we got one yesterday and last night...looks like at least 4 inches in my area...probably more to the north
so...chores and chili this weekend...

am i the only one who has noticed that this site has slowed to an absolute crawl over the last few weeks...even seems to crash completely from time to time...
this is a recurring event around here as membership numbers surpass infrastructure capacity...i've tried complaining to management...fat chance that works...they are far too happy depositing our funds to add bandwidth at an acceptable rate...
so...i'll just vent a little here and move on with the rest of my morning...

watched my daughter graduate from college today....big day....
i had my children somewhat late...and far apart...my son was born when i was 31...my daughter when i was 37...so there i was...a white haired 60 year old amongst the 40 somethings....i suppose they assumed i was the grandpa....;-)
her older brother was the "smart" one...honors student...aerospace engineer...while she just kept her head down and worked hard for a degree in english....if you sense enormous pride in those words then you read well....
really big day......

if you've never had "deep fried turkey" for thanksgiving, you really don't know what you're missing...i started doing it back in 2002, and wouldn't dream of using any other prep method...there are plenty of sites on the net to get you started...and hopefully keep you from burning your house down....;-)....so give it a go....and be careful out there...

the first stop on this trek is a casino property near philadelphia, mississippi...run by the choctow nation called pearl river resort...
two casino/hotel properties about 550 rooms each...
last year, both were open but services were a bit limited...best restaurant closed...etc...
this year one of the hotels is shut down...the other sparsely subscribed...
the casino floor is very much locals...very few tourists/players
there are two very good golf courses here...a small advance group from our party got here last night and played one of them....over watered and practically unplayable...
we will be looking elsewhere tomorrow
it would appear that this area did not get the memo that the recession was over...

the alarm is set for 0430...the motor home should pull out between 0900 and 1000...if my "air card" works, then i should be posting from the road....else....from the first night stop....a nice little casino in philadelphia mississippi....where we all make our annual donation to the native amercian organization that runs it...

as a reminder...the destination is laurel mississippi...and more golf than a bunch of fat old farts should ever attempt...

For some time now, I have tried to set aside a bit of money each month for charity. ¿Over the years I've developed some favorites that get picked more than once a year....JimmyV and St Judes at the top of the list...along with First Tee at least once or twice.
For a while I had heard of a thing called Patriot Golf Day where golfers are asked to play/contribute on Labor Day Weekend...I've joined in at my home course. ¿But this year I actually learned about the organization behind all this. ¿A PGA club pro and course owner named Dan Rooney who also happens to be a Major in the Air Force and an F-16 fighter pilot is the driving force behind it. In 2007, Major Rooney decide to do something. ¿He decided that dependents of military who are disabled/killed in action should be recognized and helped. So...he formed an organization called Folds of Honor that does something very simple...it awards scholarships to these dependents.
His story was told on a "Golf in America" segment on the Golf Channel. ¿I challenge you to watch it and not do two things.....cry a bit....and send a donation.

my annual fall trip is to a terrific old course in the rather small town of laurel mississippi...
we normally go in late september...but this year...late october...just learned today
things will be a bit different than the last several years...but as always...i'll try to post a bit here...and elsewhere....
if anyone is listening...i'd be pleased to discuss further...

my friends and i have been playing in this tournament for more than fifteen years...and have had only a handfull of tournament rounds rained out...well...today added to the total...
¿
an early storm boiled up in central alabama and threatened the day...then a brief bright spot...so we headed out...briefly...;-)
¿
'larry lightening' showed up on our second hole...a quick trip back to the clubhouse...and then the final drive of my annual 'rite of spring'...
¿
now begins the decision on whether to plan a similar trip next year.......
¿
