It is a sad day indeed. A lot of sad days.

uggghhhh RMac....it's so hard to bear.

Too many sad days!!!  The Nation weeps....but will it do anything???  If not now…when?  Year after year, our citizens, our policemen….our children are slaughtered by these horrendously lethal weapons.  If these were terrorist acts, the country would demand action to stop it.  It’s an outrage that we do nothing….and make no mistake…it will happen again!  Is this the price we pay for the so called freedom...for almost anyone…. to obtain a military style assault weapon and piles of bullets?  Is this really a good…or free society when you can’t even be sure your child is safe at their desk?  Are we really going to tell ourselves that there is nothing we can do???

I know we already had a vigorous conversation here on a blog about gun control....and not too terribly long ago either, after another mass murder event.  I don't even want to think or talk about it!  I just become too agitated!!  Even the lowest animal knows 'the' most important job is to protect your babies.  Why don’t Americans know this?

This whole thing is so profoundly tragic.  My heart is just broken for the victims….the mothers…the fathers, brothers, sisters….the Sandy Hook community….for all of us.

Such a horrific thing to happen. Such a tragedy. I feel soo sorry for all those involved. Those poor children, the teachers, the families...

Many years ago in Scotland a crazed gunman open fired upon a class of young children in a primary school in Dunblane. The gunman killed 16 children and the teacher. I must of been around 10 years olds at the time in a different primary in a different part of Scotland. After that event all schools were locked. However even despite that measure it may not stop people forcing their way through.

Such events have such a devastating impact on communities. Such a terrible shame.

I hope measures can be put in places to improve safety not just for schools but for society as a whole.

Hi SARAH....

I dislike how we miss some posts due to "non-paying".... Just saw this....

SARAH, I had not heard of the Scotland incident, but evil sickness does not only encompass America for sure. Many heinous crimes from other areas of the world. Wasn't Jack the Ripper from London?

There simply MUST be measures taken to address this issue. I know how you feel regarding gun control, (I pay attention!) But SARAH, I am telling everyone right now....

If we choose to take guns away from the good people, the ONLY ones who will have them will be the bad. We will NEVER win in taking away guns from the wrong people, therefore we had better ensure the right ones continue to bear arms!

Good ole Albert had it right!

FRANCIE.... :(

It's amazing how one family / country / world .. tragedy .. can affect soooooo many individuals who could not be more "unrelated." The human spirit of "grief."

I was driving from Atlanta airport to South Carolina today and was listening to talk radio. Obviously people have differing views on HOW and WHY this happend... Too many guns, wrong people with them, mental issues etc...

BUT, I think we can all agree on one thing..

This was a senseless tragedy and we need to take matters into our hands and ensure we keep EVERY BABY SAFE!!! My ex and I moved out of Chicago area before our son started school long ago. One major reason was due to his having to go through metal detectors. The violence was horrible!!

After hearing some views today, I have determined I like VOYAGERS thoughts on POLICE being on every campus. I do not feel ONE COP is enough however. (Too many entry points and not enough of a threat with one armed servant.)

I do not feel teachers should carry guns though. (That was discussed as well.) I feel that might be a disaster waiting to happen!! Teachers become teachers B/C they love children and teaching and THAT is their way of making a huge difference in society. I don't know of many teachers who are heavy "gun toters" and when on the line, people facing these matters serve all involved most effectively if they are trained professionals in VIOLENCE and PANIC MODE!! (Not to say many techers couldn't shoot, and GOD BLESS the awesome teacher I understand hid her classroom in a bathrom and she could not fit, so she locked them in without her!! ...  BUT WE NEED MORE POLICE!!! I have a grand idea! Let's take some of the people on welfare and train them to "police" school grounds. We can train them, drug test them, give them jobs and PAY THEM FOR THEIR SERVICE VERSUS A HAND OUT! They feel better about themselves and show their children what upstanding role models they are! Additonally, I know some may think.. "Many of them are criminals." Well, let me tell you what I did long ago.

I had a group of 8 children I watched after school. Only 2 were mine. I was pregnant and too tired to walk to the corner of the street to get them. I had severe vericose vein problems, so I had them WALK home, as there were crossing guards etc... and it was only one line of a block. Anyway, my BFF asked me one day.. ."I see your kids' line every day GF. All the moms are talking about it because we see them every day walking home. I am amazed at how straight that line is, but I have to know.... HOW IS IT YOU GOT AARON TO BE THE LEADER! Everybody who knows that little one is astounded!"

I said, "Karen, let me tell you something about human nature. Aaron is a good kid, just very rambunctious and can't stay focused. I took him aside a few weeks ago and told him I needed his help. I sat with him and told him I was concerned about Ashlynn being at the back of the line and the line wasn't straight and she was hit by a kid on his bike. The line was a complete mess and bikers couldn't get around! I told him I needed someone to be IN CHARGE and to stay at the front of the line and WATCH everyone and to have Ash right behind him where I knew she was safe! (She was the baby of group.) You should have seen his eyes light up when he saw I NEEDED help and I chose to select him for the deed!! See, sometimes all a person needs to be able to accomplish something really important is for someone to stand up and say, "I need this from you. Can you do this for me? Aarons self-esteem has sky-rocketed now and guess what? He is even trying harder in school. He feels important now, so getting in trouble is NOT the kind of attention he is seeking!"

That's psycology 101 people! LOL... Give the people a "purpose" to work and their attitude and self-esteem will change... Who wouldn't feel badly if they felt they served no purpose? Run background checks, make sure they aren't molesters, drug dealers etc... train them as security officers to work with the police on campus and take their free hand out away! Put them to work keeping our precious babies safe! WHAT COULD BE MORE IMPORTANT!

Sadly, when we don't have enough "police power", this just goes to show the state of our great nation the longer we continue cutting our military...

Well, those are some of my thoughts Ladies and Gents.. It was an emotional drive home but I would like to say this as well..

We have people being nasty to each other on these blogs etc. and my heart is heavy today... Is it "really" that difficult to put aside one's differences and quit being nasty and start joining forces on what we can do to place effort in making the world a better place, not fight and call people names? I think everyone has something substantial to offer for ideas and right now as my little bonde brain types these words, we have children who are crying themselves to sleep, forever "haunted" by images of horrific violence and the loss of their classmates...

Just a thought....

((((HI RAY)))).. Just a Litl Princess huggin you back... Been too choked up today after all that talk radio.. :(

Ray, I am saddened by this event as well as humbled. I realize my meager little life is of little significance to so many.. (which folks, is not a bad thing at the end of the day..) We all should recognize how our existance is merely a small blimp on a very large radar... HOWEVER, for the ones we DO mean something to... WE ARE THE BEACON!! Many have lost their beacon...

Ray, I have to admit to all... I am not a big "feely" person.. (I know, I know!!) I might seem like I am always hugging people cuz I hug young girls I never met in bars crying over cancer etc.. But I actually am not a big "affectioner"...

It is times like these when I realize...

I NEED A HUG...

AND I "WANT" TO CRY....

I don't have either in my life right now.. The ((HUG)), or the person to share the tears...

But Mr. Green Hornet.. (LOL.. God help the Princess if she could ever be serious!!)

If you were here, and though we have never met..

I'd ask you to hug me.... and there aren't enough tears to share...

I don't know what makes people do what they do.. How they get sooooo messed up...

It appears a small world........ with one BIG problem....

Hope,, I have a feeling you mean more than you think you do ! It would be my pleasure to hug you,,we all need it once in awhile,,,, so here you go ( ) ()()()()()

YES! Put firemen and police officers at schools!! They are present already in many, but I think you hit the nail with the thought of "making the badge be RESPECTED!" There are songs about the "bad Po-PO"... and shooting cops etc... Evil Exist.. :(((

Hope, I was driving down the highway when I heard about this. I was heart sick, I can't even imagine the pain this is going to cause. My heart can't stand certain things and this tops the list. I can't stand it when our Babies are hurt. It is so hard for me to put into words how I feel. But my Prayers are with the Parents, Grand Parents,Brothers, Sisters, Husbands and Wives everyone who has to deal with this tragedy. Also the kids who saw this happen,, Oh My God !!
