Hope – Thanks for the kind words.  An owl?  Wisdom, I hope so.  Still, one part of wisdom is avoiding useless debate.  I sometimes fail to do so.

HI Lady DI...

Hope you have beaten that flu bug down!! I think I may be getting a sinus infection!! UGH...

Now where I stand on the "subsidies."

First off, I don't buy the inflated distortion of that theory. We don't, as tax payers, hand over checks to any oil companies, United States owned or not. We DO allow DEDUCTIONS as with every other company. I hold no issue with this.. If I ever need "loop-holes" to save my money from the big bad government, I hope I find them. My problem has been more NOT needing loop-holes cause I amworth zilch! Heehee~~ Oh the woes of a Princess! But I do feel strongly we need to quit giving money away to able bodied individuals who can work but have been living off other people for generations!

BP employs approximately 25,000 American TAX PAYING citizens. I have a friend who "measures" (Whatever that means! HA!) in a Houston office. BP takes extrordinary measures (no pun intended) to ensure "safety." I know my friend has to take the same "water safety" course every couple of years I had to take for the USCG. They place you buckled in a similated helicopter in a pool and flip you upside down. You have to gather your wits and unbuckle yourself and swim to safety. Travelling BP employess must take this course, as they ride in helicopters from platform to platform! Needless to say, the Princess flunked the first time and panicked! They had to flip me over and do it again! As well, when I worked under contract for a vessel under contract for BP. Get that.... I was not even an employee of BP. I was an employee of the vessel owner who had a contract under BP. I was NEVER allowed, (or anyone) allowed on the backdeck without our hard hats. Should a BP guy catch someone without a hard hat on back deck, they were fired immediately! It happened once, not on my vessel, but word spread quickly. BP won't tolerate ones being careless. There are now several employees on manslaughter charges, as well as BP being held accoutnable for employing them. I guess akin to hospitals being held accountable if a doctor is negligent.

Anyway, while working sending fuel and water to other vessels in the gulf, guess what you don't hear about... (so that's what I'm here for! LOL... )

BP collected other stuff ON THEIR DIME since there actually wasn't much activity for washing vessels covered with oil.. I asked the guys sitting on the decontamination vessels how long they had seen a vessel come to them for "decontamination." They said WEEKS! They just sat out there bored to tears, eating and playing chess! So, one thing we got to do?

LOOK! Not only did BP clean up oil in the gulf, they managed to drag up platform legs and a SEA WITCH! Bwahahaahaha!!!!     (BTW.. That's how the Princess jokes got started... )

Anyway, mishaps, accidents, etc.. occur wherever we are in the work field. "Clean up on isle 6!!" Oil and water don't mix well.. But we need oil!! So WE MUST DRILL TO GET IT! As long as we receive the brunt of oil from other countries, they hold us hostage. I AM ALL FOR DRILLING IN THE UNITED STATES! But then, what do you expect from a Texas raised girl whose parents were born in Dallas!!

Nov 2, 2010 ... I do tend to have fun wherever I am!! Heeheehee~

Signed,

Sea Witch~~

Hope~

Please google 'tax subsidies for oil companies'.

Credible estimates of annual subsidies to the fossil fuel companies range from $10 billion to $52 billion annually.  Subsidies are tax dollar$$$.  Even efforts to remove small portions of those subsidies have been defeated in Congress... despite the fact that they don't need it.  This kind of government support to industry can also be called......*ahem*.....socialism.

PS:  BP is not an American Company.  I hope we're not subsidizing them too!!

Don't worry Fishy....I'm sure they have a well developed safety manual that they are referring to right now!!!  Hmmm....does anyone know the number for the Coast Guard?

OH NO! I see one Princess has hijacked another Princesses blog!! ;)

MAYDAY! MAYDAY!! My ship is sinking! We are under LADY DI HI JACK MODE!!! Heeheehee~~

Lady DI... We MUST drill to gain our own control on oil, etc.. It is very lucrative financially for our country. BUT, mishaps occur unfortunately.. There is risk of environment due to the job. I have been in the industry since I was a teen, off and on.. When I worked offshore in recent years, my first job was working for a vessel under cotnract for BP. We supplied water, fuel and trash P/U for vessels sitting out in the gulf for "clean up." BP paid billions of dollars for people like me to sit on a boat and ride fuel out to other boats whose only job was to "wait in position" for any boats to come by for "clean up" who were affected by the oil spill... I was a low man on totem pole making about $150 a day. Captains make up to $700 a day. The cost was enormous!! But tax dollars have not paid a dime for the BP mess and at least one BP employee was held accountable in court for negligence I think?

Anyway, I respect your position, and I too, feel it is imparative to keep the environment "safe"... But just as you take risk of getting stuck w/ a dirty needle, or contracting a communicable disease, we in the oilfield take risk as well. Some environmental, (I have seen fuel spills and had to work clean up which is IMMEDIATE.. Heavy fines are at risk if USCG gets wind of it and these spills are usually due to something breaking, not by human error! We also risk our selves. I was fired once by the port captn B/C he said I was going to get blown off the back deck or hurt by the rigging equipment, though I am certified in riggging. He might not have been that far off though, being as I was in 12' seas at one point. But I really needed my job..

FISHY! That is an incredible photo! Did you take it? I do have Alaska on my bucket list! BRRrrrrrr.....

Quoting fishyme:

 Hi Hoping,Happy New Year to you also!!! Mine started out Great with Big Oil grounding their Artic drill rig just outside of Kodiak in 35 foot seas.4 1/2 Billion dollars is what they spent this year for the first ever oil drilling in the Artic ocean.Having survived the 1989 oilspill 40 miles from my front door this news is some of the best that I've seen in a long while.

This is what $290 million looks like on our outside shores getting beat to crap in 35 foot seas.The tower is 160 feet tall.

Lololol....oh....you mean the oil rig that broke loose while being towed in the middle of December during inclement weather and then crashed into the Alaska shoreline?  Is that the one that they don't have a clue how they are going to rescue in the middle of winter and are just 'hoping' that many, many thousands of gallons of diesel fuel and drilling fluids don't start spilling onto one of America's most pristine shoreline?  Not to worry Fishy.  Shell Oil Co....they know what they are doing!

PS:  Stay tuned.  Your tax dollars at work, subsidizing one of the most profitable companies.... in the WORLD!!!!

Lolol...*wink* @ Hope!!

My Lovely Lady DI...

Yes mam.. I did see your post before my blog was removed... THANK YOU for your kind and encouraging words.. :))))

Now, for the stuff that embarrasses you.. (Your post was not here when I posted my "Positive Thoughts" on the others.. )

Hmm... Class all by yourself? ;)

Lady DI- Not only do I admire and respect the profession you have chosen, but I know you uphold your end of nursing others to health to the highest of standards. Your ability to view others heartaches, traumas, struggles; make you a wonderful nurse and a dynamic woman. You posses the ability to view both sides of the fence. As with "empathy," one does not have to "agree" in order to view the glass. Additionally, you have excellent skills in expressing yourself as well as a demeanor about you that reflects style and class. That's why I donned you "Lady DI" long ago...

HAPPY NEW YEAR LADY.......  AND YES GOD BLESS! *wink~~

                                                 ~~~~ HI EVERYONE!!!! ~~~~
I want to say a few POSITIVE words to reflect my feelings about you, so hope you (and others) are blessed and get to see what I see.... ;)
Sweet SARAH... There's a true reason I always refer to you as "sweet." You my dear, are such a blessing in this world. I admire your work with your children and cannot think of anyone I would want more to be "over-seeing" the kiddies! SARAH, I know you do everything you do from your heart and I am grateful we have genuine souls out there guiding the "little people." Sorry for the loss of your Father this year. I know he was very proud of you... As a Mother myself, I know you are a JOY as a daughter!
RMAC.. You remind me, as I stated on one blog weeks ago, of the wise owl in the lollipop commercial. Anyone remember that commercial? (Little boy says "How many licks to get to the tootsie roll? Owl takes 3 bites and eats it and says, "3" RMAC... I enjoy your wisdom when you choose to speak sir. I get the feeling you were a very loving husband before your wife passed and I hope everyone takes a moment and truly "listens" when you speak! You too, are a blessing in this world!
BEWELL- You really radiate in that picture! I know I told you before, but I can sense you were very happy at that moment! BEWELL, I truly have enjoyed your thoughts you share and I look forward to sharing my reads with you. I look for your read post now! BEWELL, I know you must be a great grandmother! I sense an "old soul" in you with a lot of vibrance in the mix! I enjoy how "open minded" and "accepting" you are of others. THAT, for me, is one of the most important qualities one can possess. I also feel this will be a very valuable asset for your grandchild(ren)... (I sense there will be ore than one!) BEWELL, there are so many times a child cannot come to the parents, but this is where a grandparent can really shine! Grandparents are not as critical or threatening and I hope you grow a strong connection with your little one, despite the distance! Don't forget the scrapbook we talked about before!
COUNTRYCHEER- You haven't been around enough for me to know you well, but I will say, YOUR NAME CHEER SAYS IT ALL! Your smile radiates a "cheery" spirit and I bet you are one nutty and fun friend to have. Can't wait to get to know you more.. But honey, YOU GOTTA BLOG SO WE GET THE OPPORTUNITY TO KNOW YOU! LOL
CURIOUS- Well Ms. Pat.. What's to say? Pat, I view so many sides of you.. You are full of spunk and fire, and I admire the passion you possess when you get on a roll! It's funny B/C while you have such a "serious" side, you have a "spot on" funny side as well! I have enjoyed our conversing and I am just glad I almost always see things "Pats way"... cause you aren't as "nice" to spar with as Lady DI! HA! I also find you to be a very prolific writer and I hope you get to do something with the articles you have written. If someone can keep my A.D.D. attention span that long, THAT'S SHEER TALENT! I feel blessed to have met you through this site!
FISHY- Ah.. My FISHY! There are times where you are just a breath of fresh air my dear! I think what I have enjoyed most about you, aside from just the fact you are "real".. Well, I have enjoyed your "simplistic and logical" insight on several topics. I won't go into them in this forum, as I truly hope it stays on just complimenting what I so enjoy about you guys, but I share many of your views. FISHY, I sense in you many of the "good" qualitites my Father has, and NO, I don't mean in age.. I think you are somewhere in my age range? But I sense such a hard core worker and a genuine-ness (IS THAT A WORD? Lemme break out "The Princess dictionary! LOL) I know life in Alaska can surely not be easy.. I come from the land of "flip-flops" and muscle shirts with lots of sunshine and an easier way of living. Going grocery shopping is a chore for me in the cold! 15 layers of clothing, lugging coats etc.. Jeez! BUT... Your reward of the moose in the backyard etc.. WOW! Thanks for sharing that with us.. And I would LOVE to come VISIT! Even for a long period like 2 weeks.. BUT LIVE? I just don't think my "Princess Tiara" would look the same on me if it was frozen!
NGL- SO GOOD TO SEE YOU BACK! NGL.. I truly "hope" you find love soon.. You appear to be a genuine "gentleman" and a very loving individual. I sense your "family" spirit when you write of your nephew and your own children and I just know in my heart you are an awesome man with a lot of love to offer the right woman! I hope she appears soon for you, but until then, stick with us a while will you? We enjoy your thoughts! I have learned much from reading your thoughts on dating and women etc... and I have a lot to learn about men, so just keep talking! LOL...
WELL GUYS AND GALS... GEMS AND GERMS.... (Hee hee.. *Scooby Snickers!)
I have sincerely enjoyed my time on here and am looking forward to a year filled with insights from all of you and others! I have watched myself grow and develop through this site due to observing and sharing with everyone over the past year and a half. I have enjoyed spending time with each of you and I anxiously await sharing and making more wonderful memories in 2013....
GOD BLESS~~ (and yes, I say and mean that regardless your beliefs!)
