A man, who has several Ph.Ds, but doesn't make much money. He married a woman some years ago when he was 50 and she 40. They had a child together soon after. He said he appreciates his wife so much because since they were married three years ago, she never bought any clothes, shoes, etc.

I'm just wondering, what will happen in the future when her old clothes and shoes have holes? Would she be a less perfect wife if she buys clothes or should she just walk around naked? Would that make her a nice wife, how about the police caught her?

Maybe she has a full wardrobe and takes care of what she has. I can relate to the clothes topic. I have so many formal dresses & evening gowns which are older than 3 years, however they look brand new and of course still fit. I have T-shirts that I bought in the 80's... they too look brand new because I wash in cold & hang dry. I don't need any more formal dresses. I don't need any more evening gowns (and Lord knows the ones I spent hundreds of dollars on better last me more than 3 years) As for my casual wardrobe, it is just fine too. Shoes come and go but again, if they are taken care of they too can last for years (as long as you don't buy what's in style today & will be out of style tomorrow). Timeless Classic sexy heels CAN last for years. They can also be resoled for less than a new pair.

RELEVANT NOTE - - - Did you stop to think that MAYBE, just maybe, this hypothetical woman spends her money on their child. A growing child WILL need new clothes every year (or even monthly after birth). I would go without new clothes forever if it meant having the best for my child. Most good parents do that. The child comes first.

To be able to keep your wardrobe stocked & wearable for years to come means one must keep their body in shape (meaning not getting fat & forced to purchase larges pieces of fabric to cover it).

When you can look in the mirror and say WOW I can still wear this dress I bought 10 years ago and it's still in fashion.. THAT is SUCCESS. For me... I can even wear some of my classic clothes from high school (1985) & again, they look brand new... with the exception of 501 Levi's... they now look stone washed (which is nice because that look is in fashion)

You can also make your wardrobe look great & stay in fashion if you know how to sew. Maybe the wife did that. You can make longer dresses shorter, add decor to plain ones, add/change straps/sleeves... IF you know how to sew. Even the fabric from a long skirt can be designed into a new pair of shorts or a blouse (depending on the material). The list of alterations is endless (again, if one can sew). THAT is a bonus attribute of a good wife (sewing). Knowing how to be creative with what you have IF what you have ever becomes limited.

Buying Frugel is a conscious choice, it is an art unto itself.

Have any of you heard of goodwill stores? In my city there must be a half dozen of them.Whatever they have left over it goes to this roller tote stand and grab last chance store.Sold by the pound.People buy this stuff by the over flowing shopping cart load.Clothes mostly but you will see auction people there. If you got the time flounder through the bins and you might find the right attire to look like a millionaire.Ps lots of books and chainsaws and sometimes victoria secrets with price tags stiil in tack.

Just shows to go you that a Ph.D means nothing without some practical, real-world knowledge to go along with it.  Plus, I wish that wife all the best.  She's gonna need it!

Just goes to prove that having a PhD doesn't necessarily make you smart.  A perfect wife is a gift to be treasured, wrapped elegantly and carefully opened with anticipation.  High heels work too.
