I think it is quite clear, at least to maybe a select few who can look at our government like I can, it knows that it has the people by their collars; however, they also sweat because despite the pathetic actions of scare people through under handed tactics that they have pulled, they know that if the people wanted to, and actually grew a pair, they could actually put the government back into its place.  This is supposed to be a government by the people, not people under government.  If they truly understood that things are not to be done the way they have been, it would be a better world.  But then again, this is the same thing that has been going on ever since the dawn of civilization.  My apologies if it seems like I'm ranting.

The real choices are:

1 Do you want to live in a socialist/communist country with a buffoon strong man in charge?

2. Do you believe in free enterprise and rule of law..

3. Do you want the gov making all of the decisions about our lives and our finances, or do you want to be in charge of your own life, own finances, make your own decisons etc.

Full Definition of BUFFOON 1 : a ludicrous figure : clown 2 : a gross and usually ill-educated or stupid person — buf·foon·ish \- ˈ fü-nish\ adjective

Hilarious Don!!

So what is this whole government shutdown all about???  The latest Wall Street Journal poll has Congressional GOP disapproval at 70%....basically over 2/3 of the country has turned against the Republicans.  If things weren’t so bad for our country….that might be good news.

But what is it that they want in order to make them stop doing this stupid thing???

Remember?  They refused to vote to pass a budget unless it defunded Obamacare, a law that would enable millions to get healthcare, including people banned due to pre-existing conditions.  Well it turns out that the majority of Americans are not in favor of a government shutdown.  Amazing, it seems most people actually want our government.

Hmmm….ok…so the GOP decided perhaps shutting the government to defund the Affordable Care Act wasn’t such a great idea.

In rides Paul Ryan with his budget and declaring his often repeated, “We need to completely rethink the role of government.”  So at first they wanted to defund the ACA, but now this is what they came up with instead.  They want to cut SS, Medicare and Medicaid.  I wonder how that’s going to fly with all those old, white, conservatives that show up to all those Tea Party events.  Do you think they want their SS checks cut?  Do you think they want their Medicare cut?  It’s political suicide!!!

No, what I think they really want is to make the country DEFAULT!!  That would satisfy their visceral hate for this President, no matter who it hurts!  Then they could say President Obama was in office when the first time in history this country defaulted on our debts.  The stupid thing is that they are actually making the debt worse every day during this shutdown, because the interest on our Treasury bonds has already doubled due to international uncertainty that we will pay.  Cheesh!

As Paul Krugman said, “The madness of the GOP is the central issue of our time.”

The only thing we can hope for is that Wall Street is still influential enough to make them listen, when they say:  You must stop now!!!  Knock it off foolish people!

Quoting Dakota35:

Diana, What will any of your "values" matter if people of America are suffering.  Your "values" will be far from their thoughts.  Your "values" are your opinion brought about by environmental stimuli, and decisions.  The "values" that you hold dear, are other people's immoral's.  Diana you are part of the smoke & mirrors and you don't even realize it.  Both Dem. and Rep. will benifit from the shutdown, from the debt crisis.  They will all meet for lunch behind closed doors and laugh about how much money they made.  All the while you are picking sides and America slips further down.  There is no side.  The issues that you bring up are just to occupy your mind, hiding it from the truth. You are a puppet and don't even know it.

Dak,

Hmm....immoral?  Well, in my opinion politics by terrorizing people is immoral.  You cannot run the world’s economy and be the world’s reserve currency and play these type of 'games'.  Just pick up the Wall Street Journal to see what the rest of the world and especially the financial people are saying about this shut down.  Not only do conservatives not believe in science, it has become demonstrably evident that they don’t know anything about the economy either!  One GOP Congressman said, I know about the economy "because I raised a family".  That's like me saying, I know how to build a computer because I have one.  Stupid!!

Undermining our democracy and the world’s economy is not funny....nor is it a game!

PS:  Thank you for the well wishes.  Good luck to you too.

Dak

Whatever one's opinion they deserve to voice it here. Debate seems to have lost it's value and respect for others show blindness on your behalf.

Maybe we are destined to witness a meltdown of the monetary system as we know it. I did some googling regarding your last post and found some truth or consequences on the issues. yes ...we are printing money faster than the gold standad can handle...but in the same note we arent the only country that has devisating debt....

Don~

Even Vladamir Putin polls higher with Americans than this Congress does!  ROFLMAO

Yes Dak...I know your opinions.  It doesn't matter to me if you do not want to discuss issues.  I remain very fond of you.  However, I only vote for candidates that share my values and will work for at least some of the objectives that I think are important.  So regrettably, I must inform you that I will not be voting for you for Prez.   *wink*

PS:  I never play games......unless they're fantasy games!  :))

Diane, I know things that you do not.  I'm not getting involved in a debate any longer.  Just tonight, I learned more...or I guess it was a refresher.  You will learn in the future.  No more political correctness for me.  You know where I stand.  I hope for your own good that in the back of your mind you know the truth, but you just chose to play the game.  You'll be better off than most since you are in healthcare.  Good luck to you.

Dak. please regail us on what secret info that we don't know. I too have had More than enough of this BS self interest that both the parties have presented.

Seems Diana had the facts right on the 113th congress .....the highest disapproval rating since they started data collecting...78% / 15%.....the "State of the Union"? .....SUCKS

One day Diana, you will evolve and become like me...hating them all.  You can spin anything.  So can I count on your vote for me as your next President?  Never mind I'm not a big enough SOB to be Prez.

Dak,

This is absurd.  This is the United States of America and we don’t have a government!

In the 2 yrs in which Democrats controlled the Presidency, Senate and House they accomplished:

-Credit Card reform

-Fair Pay Act

-Student loan reform

-Wall Street Reform

-Healthcare reform

-Expanded GI Bill

-Reauthorized Chip/Children’s insurance

-Expanded Nat’l Civilian Service Corps

-Fair Sentencing Act

-9/11 First Responders Bill

-Hate Crimes Bill

-Ratified START Treaty

-Repealed ‘Don’t Ask Don’t Tell’

-Revived the auto industry

-Stimulus/Largest middle class tax cuts

And btw…..Democrats only had a filibuster-proof majority (60 seats) in the Senate for about 6 months.

Since 2010 and the Republicans took control of one branch of government, there has not been ONE legislative accomplishment!!  Not ONE!  Only a record number of filibusters and obstructive tactics.  Feel free to let me know if you can think of one.

After being sworn-in in January:

-April 2011 threatened gov’t shutdown

-July 2011 the debt crisis resulting in the downgrade of our national credit rating

-September 2011 threats of government shutdown

-April 2012 more threats of shutdown

-December 2012 threats of the fiscal cliff

-January 2013 debt crisis

-September 30, 2013…..Hurray they finally got what they wanted all along.  The government is shut down!!!  Many GOP Congressmen are said to be “giddy”.

-October 2013 another debt crisis

Deep into year three and nothing positive for the country has been accomplished!  Only 7 and counting failures at government.  The 112th Congress is deemed by many to be the worst in history, achieving nothing on immigration, energy, climate or infrastructure.  There is only one party that clings to extreme objectives and wants to be in power specifically to hurt our government …..our country!

If the "Affordable Care Act" is going to fail under it's own weight let it happen on it's own.

It's a LAW ..passed by the Congress...signed by The President...,deemed consitutional by the Supreme Court. Change it, Screw or Un Screw it if or when it proves that the IMMENSE Law doesnt work. I have not read it and I doubt many people have. That leaves us all open to the ASS U ME ing of other biased political opinions....Dont believe what you see or hear from Anyone that has an agenda.

But to shut the government down with black mail provisions based on political stances is dangerously lethal.

Obamacare is a sweeping social change, a huge piece of social legislation. Unlike any other piece of major social legislation, it was passed without a single bi-partisan vote. Not one. When you shove major legislation down the throats of the opposition without doing the hard and necessary work of making it acceptable across the aisle, you have to live with the results of your overreach.

Had the administration included tort reform and allowed insurers to sell policies across state lines, there certainly would be a solid number of Republicans in Congress and the public at large who would have supported the law, enough so that it would be unassailable today.

But as it stands, a majority in the House of Representatives are opposed to the law, a majority of states sued to have the law overturned and a majority of Americans are against the law.

What Republicans are threatening with this shutdown is nothing less than the principle upon which our democracy is based:  Majority Rule.

What the conservatives have decided, is to embrace a level of radicalism that is hard to even imagine: if Republicans win elections, they should govern and pursue their platform, but if Democrats win elections, Republicans should threaten deliberate national harm until Democrats give in.  It shows contempt for the democratic process!  President Obama is not just defending health care in this fight.  He is defending the health of our democracy.
