I also know there is only ONE party that consistently votes against bills, like the Paycheck Fairness Act, that advance women’s rights.   Women make 77cents on the dollar that men make performing the same job….yet the House just says “NO”.  Don’t they have daughters?

In the wake of Citizens United, Liberals and Progressives were despondent and did not show up to vote in 2010.  Corporations flooded our elections with surreptitious money which allowed the House to fall to Ideologues.   In 2010, unmarried women only turned out at 38%.  They better not do the same thing in the 2014 Congressional elections.  Ladies…..VOTE…..and take your girlfriend with you.  Your lives and your children’s future depend on it!!!

Please Roc…..can you name me ONE Republican that votes for issues that advance women and their issues….like education, safety, wages, healthcare?  Please tell me what bills they have promoted and/or passed?

Roc~

What would the Founding Fathers think?

I think they would be highly offended by the lack of respect and decorum afforded to this POTUS.  I also think they would be highly offended by so called Constitution loving House Republicans who choose to ignore Amendment XIV, Section 4, that states “the validity of the public debt…..shall not be questioned”, during the manufactured and regularly occurring debt crises.  I am certain they would be totally disgusted that in 16 days, the Republicans (Ted Cruz et al) orchestrated a government shutdown which took $24 billion dollars out of the US economy, forcing a downgrade in GDP growth forecast to only 2%.  So much for fiscal responsibility!

There is no doubt there are many problems with our political system, including the lack of term limits.  Like many Americans, I am fed up with Washington.  But I know there is only ONE party that proudly boasts their primary objective is to see that our government fails.   Our Founding Fathers would not be pleased with that!

PS:  Btw....'W' inherited a $128 billion budget surplus, which he turned into an $11 trillion debt and a widespread economic collapse!!  If Gore had won the Presidency....like he really did, we would be debt free today and to your point....the Founding Fathers would have been pleased.

Quoting Diana3316:

*sigh*  Look Roc….ALL politicians lie!!!  All people lie!  The important factor is the intent and the effect of the lie.  If I tell my dying friend that she’s looking better when it’s not true….then that is not a sinister lie, but it is a lie never the less.  When you engage in a premeditated plot to deceive the American public which plunges the country into a war that kills thousands and plunders the treasury to the grand financial benefit of political allies….then that is a sinister and immoral lie.  If a President makes a statement that is true for 90% of the public, as in the case “you can keep your policy”…..but miscalculates the behavior of insurance companies who cancel policies rather than upgrade the coverage to be in compliance with the law, then that does not rise to the level of a sinister lie.  And when that small percent of the public complains enough because they want to keep their junk policies….an adjustment is made in order to provide grandfathering for those junk policies, that displays a willingness to in good faith try to serve the public’s will.  Once again, the intent was not meant to be intentionally deceitful and therefore not a sinister lie.

Do you get everything right the first time you try to do something hard?  I'll bet not, and I don't think President Obama does everything right!  In fact I am very disappointed with the ACA.  I am unhappy because it is not the best way to tackle the problem of healthcare in this country.  An idea spawned by the Heritage Society, promoted as an alternative to Hillary Care, implemented as Romney Care…..it is complex, difficult to implement and leaves the Insurance Companies still making profits off of something that should be a civil right!  However, it is the law and I view it as our duty as patriot citizens to dig in and try to make improvements as needed.  The polls are clear that the American people do not want to go back to the way it was…..so quit being so repugnant!

I guess there are quite a few here that have views that are contrary to yours.  I do agree with you on many issues but, while you demonize Republicans I demonize politicians.  What would the Founding Fathers think about the state of the Union they so dearly fought for.  Do you find their views of the Federal Debt repugnant?

No measure can be more desirable, whether viewed with an eye to its intrinsic importance, or to the general sentiment and wish of the Nation” than to establish “a systematic and effectual arrangement for the regular redemption and discharge of the public debt. ~ George Washington

No pecuniary consideration is more urgent than the regular redemption and discharge of the public debt. ~ George Washington

I, however, place economy among the first and most important republican virtues, and public debt as the greatest of the dangers to be feared. ~ Thomas Jefferson

Quoting Diana3316:

Greed is most assuredly not good and it never has been and never will be!!  Greed has not put out a fire, Greed does not keep our streets safe, Greed has not helped an accident victim along the side of the road, Greed has never given a blanket to a homeless veteran, Greed has not taught a child, Greed has not given you the best possible health care coverage, and Greed has not brought neighbors of all colors, sexual orientations and political persuasions together as Americans.

And before someone launches into a "you're a socialist" tirade, let me be clear that I am all for capitalism that pays a fair and just wage for the services or goods a person provides.  But Laissez-faire capitalism (unfettered and unregulated free markets) is nothing but a bastardization of true capitalism that allows greed to be the primary driver of "private decisions".

Over the past decade we have seen many Republican politicians devoutly going to church every week in an overt public display and claim God directs their every move in public life.  Yet they have ignored the basic Christian ideal, that "Greed" is one of the seven deadly sins.  Were these Republicans too busy counting their homes and cars to hear that part of the sermon?

Ick, ick, ick Diana.  LOL

Balloons don't put out fires or keep our streets safe but eveyone loves balloons.

You're getting a bit greedy too.... posting parts of Nelson's Op-ed on two separate blogs.

Here's the entire article for those of like minds.

I once heard that the military tries to spend more than their budget, so the can ask for more plus, the next year. That $48 million bldg. sitting vacant in Helmant Province, Afghanistan, although built for the Army's Southwest Command to handle  the surge in 2010, may be torn down, or turned over to the Afghan Gov't. According to security zone posts under negotiation, it would not be included. Will be a nice place for the Taliban to clean up, and train at; coming down from the mountains after we leave. John Sopko, Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) found that one. He is hated by the Defense Dept, State Dept, and USAID for exposing that, and other projects that were shabbily done with earmarked, Congressionally directed funds. I fear a Daja-vu moment near!

I'm just a middle-aged, middle-eastern camel herdin' man
I got a little, 2 bedroom cave here in North Afghanistan
Things used to be real nice and they got out of hand when they moved in
They call themselves the Taliban
(ooooo yeah the taliban) (taliban baby)

Now I ain't seen my wife's face since they came here
They make her wear a scarf over her head that covers her  from ear to ear
She loves the desert and the hot white sand
But man she's just like me, nah she can't stand
The Taliban (ooo taliban baby)

You know someday soon we're both gonna saddle up and it'll be
Ride Camel Ride
My old lady she'll be here with me, smilin right by my side
We should do just fine out around Palestine or maybe Turkmenistan
We'll bid a fair adieu and flip the middle finger to the Taliban
(oh yeah the taliban) (baby)

Love Jim Croce.. a local Philly boy.  Growing up in NYC we looked up to Leroy Brown and lusted after junkyard dogs... if only I could save time in a bottle.

Awww....they're sleeping, Fishy!!!  loloo...sooo cute!  Here's their friend doing the Macarena!

Lady Diana, I can tell you truthfully, at 1 million hairs per square inch, sleeping naked in sea otter hides is the warmest sleep I've ever had. The indigenous Alaska Natives are allowed to harvest and sell their hides. Up here we have LOTS and the small amount of harvesting doesn't hurt their numbers. I will not get into the horror of watching over populations starve and freeze to death. In my 35 years here it is a sight and sound that, even hardened to our way of life here, I can't drive from my mind. Harvesting saves many from that slow 2 week death.  : Note to tree huggers, Come walk my winter beaches with me sometime, after you see the sorrow even you might agree.

I've only been up to polor bear country 1 time and but they were elsewhere. It's about 800 miles north of me and I don't get up there much. I do know that on the ice pack polor bears hunt humans the same as anything else.

I've been trying to reply about Sarah Palin and her corruption but I'm so overwelmed because corruption is such a normal way of life here in the political arena and in the judicial branch of goverment as well. Alaska as a state is only 55 years old with almost 1 million people now and 1/5th the size of the lower 48 states. It's founders setteled everything in the bar over drinks then in court went on record. Cocaine was once proposed to be de-criminalized by legislators. I wonder who was doing it back then, hummmm.

Leo~

While Governor Ultrasound’s actions are objectionable and distasteful, I don’t know if they are going to be able to prove quid pro quo.  While Virginia law does not seem to prohibit exorbitant gifts from being laid before our government officials, we might have thought his sense of “morality” would have told him that greed is wrong!

Never!!!  I have never done that and never will.  I have had some pretty rough comments thrown my way from time to time....and even then I have never removed a comment.  Please repost it!!

One more thing....I have zero respect for people that come into the blogs and then cry to MM if they don't like some thing or someone!!  AND....I think MM is wrong to take sides in disagreements in the blogs....by banning individuals just because some want them banned.

Good to know and I agree.  There are some that can dish it out but run, crying to the blog police when they get it back.  Anyone can say what they want to and about me.  We don't know one another and will probably never meet so it's just idle chatter.  The only time I took exception was when some woman hurled insults at my family... but she couldn't handle my response and got me kicked off.

Matching wit's with the witless can be entertaining at times.

Awwww….I luvvvvv Otters, Fishy!!!  I love to see them laying on their back floating around eating clams.  They are sooo cute!

Hmm….Not only could Sarah Palin not handle the job of governor…..she was about to be indicted for corruption and abuse of power charges!  But what I think gets on my nerves the most about her…..is her snarky tone.
