Scotch Irish Leoness Redheaded Canadian; I'll tell you,D. That Canadian nurse, bevy herd, that hit Texas in '86. Good stock....I'll quit. You've been able to handle legislating with Roc? What's your secret? I am opined, but not necessarily fixed on people, or ideals, without studying mitigating circumstances. That change part. True, Obama is getting slapped about due to holes in healthcare, including prestrikes with the VA-42, building problems with the VA hospitals in 5, or so major cities, and the new nurse hires that are willing to work for 1/5 prevailing wage. What Country will the nurse herd come from to fill these positions? They pay foreigner's taxes for 5 years, or marry, and live happily ever after; till the list is violated( every woman has a list!). At least, groups want a clear view of the state of the VA, what improvements to the system should be immediately implimented, Where is funding for these improvements, and what role Medicaid, and Medicare plays in healthcare with these veteran's. President's rely on Congress to be liable to the American People in their legislation. Are bills not being paid? If so, Why not?

I do know that the Millennials (under 25's) have abandoned Obama in droves and more than half of them would recall him if possible.  In addition, Obamacare may fail financially because they have not signed up as expected. They seem to have abandoned everything political and who can blame them, it's the nastiest I've ever witnessed in my lifetime.... and I blame the guy at the top.  As Truman said "the buck stops here"

Hmmmm…..yes, the JFK sentiment is really wonderful.  I have always believed that we are stronger together than we are apart.  Even our Founding Fathers believed this.  E pluribus unu’, meaning ‘Out of Many, One’.

My nursing management style has always been to gather the other nurses working under me, to create what I used to call the Clinical Management Team.  I never believed that I was the only one that had good ideas for how to approach a problem.  Plus, when I built a team consensus for a path forward….I got better buy-in and cooperation.

So that’s why I always believed our republic functioned better with a two party system and that my politics was ‘Middle of the Road’.  It was my nature.

However, since the moment the right wing conservatives looked into the face of Barrack Obama, they decided that they would try to destroy him.  Even to the point of meeting on the very evening of his inauguration, hatching a plan to obstruct everything and anything that he tried to do as the duly elected POTUS.   Instead of E pluribus unu…..it was “Just Say No”.  Why they even shut down the government and caused our credit rating to be downgraded!!!  The most unproductive Congress since Truman, their unpatriotic behavior has cost the American tax payers millions of dollars and scared the entire world with their brinkmanship.

Couple that with the insane and disgusting behavior of the Tea Party, The Birthers, The Truthers…..I have totally fled the middle……NEVER to pull the lever for a GOP candidate again.

Even if there was a moderate, reasonable Republican today…..once in Congress, they join the Flat Earth Society.   I doubt President Kennedy, who dreamed of big things and believed in an America that could accomplish big things....would be very impressed with this crowd.

@Leo, @Diana   Seems you both suffer from the same syndrome.  If you continue to look at the metrics through a lens that's distorted by your political bias you will invariable arrive at the wrong conclusion, and you often do.  Your inability to connect the dots is monumental.

The dysfunction in Washington is epic.  All politicians are like diapers, they should be changed often and for the same reason.  The common denominator is Obama.  Had Hillary prevailed I believe it would be quite different.

You praise Obama for reducing the deficit yet demonize those who effected the sequester ( that Obama said would never happen ) and the gov't shutdown which resulted in the smaller deficit.  You praise Clinton for the surpluses that occurred on his watch but don't credit Gingrich's Contract with America, the shutdown and Clinton's ability to work with a Republican Congress for any of it.

Think of Obamacare as Foie Gras, considered a delicacy by the French and other gourmands.  Now look at it from the bird's point of view.  Obama had a free pass for his first two years.  Geithner and Paulsen worked together and the stimulus and TARP stopped the bleeding.  Obama and Pelosi shoved Obamacare down the throats of a minority Congress.  The result was a Fed covered in goose sh*t.

America voted for this gridlock in 2010.  I don't know what the outcome this November will be.  I suspect the gridlock to continue.  It's called cause and effect.

Looking at the history aspect, the Dem's seem to bring in surplus's, while the Repub's pile debt. The world marches on, no matter. Military action is one of the denominators. I would never say that we should not have a strong defense; rather, war should be the last offensive move. I think this to be masculine-feminine viewpoints, with the gray area between. They would rather one see the damage done by adversarial actions. Wars with words are cold wars, but allow for fires of hope to an adversarial position. :-)LV1

6 years ago our country was in a full blown economic collapse with the market in free fall somewhere around 6000 pts.  Today the Dow is pushing 17,000!!! Jobs are coming back, the housing market is coming back and the deficit is dropping faster than at any time since WWII.  Not only have wealthy investors made a TON of money under this president, but the baby boomers have seen their 401Ks made whole again and their main source of wealth, their homes, regain value.  It seems clear to me that the economy does better under Democrats.

However, the self-serving paranoid hysteria that used to be pointed at Obama has now been shifted to Hillary.  While every event that happened around the world used to be Obama's fault, it seems is now Hillary's fault.  It is quite obvious this is going to be another dirty, dirty, dirty election in 2016.

Rather than engaging in an examination of conscious to develop a positive political platform to make things better for our country, the Right has chosen to stay wallowed in the sewer of smears and conspiracies.  At first Hillary was faking her blood clot so she wouldn't have to testify on Benghazi.....now the suggestions being made is that she is "hiding" the fact she actually sustained brain damage.   Oooooweee...she hasn't even decided to run, but if she does, she will release her health records.  They have no ideas, only negativity.  They look backward rather than forward... yearning for the old American, with no belief in science or vision for leading us toward a modern, competitive America.

The Republican hero, Reagan, had Alzheimer's his entire second term but that didn't seem to be a problem.

I believe these baseless political smear tactics will backfire on them.  Young people and especially women are tired of this and find their tactics distasteful.

Everything is coming up roses.  The entire population is happy as a clam.  The economy grew at a robust rate of  one tenth of one percent in the first quarter.  Our debt is a paltry $17 Trillion.  China will become the global economic leader by 2020 and we'll be able to sit back and enjoy ourselves and revel in our past glory.

I predict a lanslide for the Dems in  2014 and 2016.  If yuou took adavanyage of that stock market growth I think you'll be able to take early retirement at 60 and enjoy the spoils of your labor.  I did during the Clinton years and retired at 53.   Yippee!!!!!  Go for it Diana.

We should not go back, as those small thinkers shout. D makes point with the idea of really solving the ills of our healthcare situation. Those who think of throwing out the baby with it's bathwater due to the mechonium problem should watch for a backlash. We already see where people go with a cold..ER!

Hmm....not sure Roc.....but there is one thing I AM certain of:  If the Republicans get control of our government and have their way at dismantling the social safety nets, I will likely live my old age in poverty.  Under current conditions……if I am lucky, I might get approx. $1000/mon Social Security to live on…..maybe $1200 if my health holds and I can work until 70 yrs old.  That’s not much to live on….especially with the current cost of groceries, utilities, gas, dental care, co-pays, deductibles, etc.  There are no pensions for nurses….except VA nurses.  I can’t even imagine what will happen to the working class if Republican smug indifference becomes unchecked.  God help us if we let them privatize SS and allow Wall St to get their hands on our SS monies!!!!

Despite holding a job since I was 16, including working throughout nursing school…..and every day there after….I will not have enough money if I live very long.   When I got out of nursing school/passed my boards….my first job paid me $3.75/hr.  After a few years I was bumped to $5.05/hr.  When I moved to Texas in the late ‘70s, I took a job in a prestigious Houston hospital.  I was crazy smart, a hard worker and a really good nurse.  They transferred me from telemetry to work in the CCU when cardiac bypass surgery was just getting started at $8.49/hr.  I remember it well because as a young woman, I thought I had hit the big time.

While it’s true that I’ve made a lot of poor choices along the way….none of them had anything to do with being a bad citizen or irresponsibility.  But for some in this country……it’s “so what” if she suffers and then dies in poverty.  Rather than becoming a nurse and caring for others in their deepest, darkest moments….wiping butts, cleaning up vomit and exposed to deadly viruses day in and day out…...she should have become wealthy…..like us.

I have never been primarily motivated by money and truly have nothing against people that have made a lot of money.  If someone has made a lot of money in their life.....that's great and they should be able to keep a really big chunk of it.  But if you live in the greatest country in the world....a country where the rest of us have paid for the roads you ship your goods on, the universities that educated the people you hire, the police, firemen and military that protect your business, the teachers that educate your children......then I believe that wealthy person should be willing to pay their fair share.   Why does a nurse that has worked her entire life pay 25% tax while a billionaire pays 11%?  Really, how many yachts does one human need????  And please don't tell me anything about a flat sales tax, because that too disproportionately hits the middle and poor class.

The whole project started by repairing the old rotten small deck, but then I got such a good deal on the lumber.....I bought all they had.  The 16' deck boards were $5/board.  So then I needed to make the deck bigger.....and THEN found out I needed some shade here in Texas.  I used a shade cloth because I couldn't afford the additional lumber for slats on the arbor.  Hmmmm....shade cloth is really expensive.  I bought a large painter's canvas drop cloth for $15:  washed it in hot water and ironed it so it would be pre-shrunk......then tacked it up there with some clips I found online.

Looks beautiful Diana!  I'm trying to figure out what to do with my back patio... do you have any plans you could share?

Hah.....I'm a grasshopper....remember????  I have no plans.....just fantasies and survival techniques.  lolol

Quoting Diana3316:

Greetings and salutations!  I have been thinking of you my friends.  I hate it when people just disappear and give no explanation.  I’m alive and well; but over-whelmed.  Hmm…..how does anyone explain?

The truth is that I’ve been working!  That’s what I seem to do ….well…when I’m not dawdling.  *wink*   The deck is finished!!!   5 gal of stain and 1 gal of varnish….laid by me.  I brought in a yard and half of crushed granite for walkways and a truckload of mulch for all the flower beds.  Everything is blooming in Dallas.  My yard has never looked so good!  (My back has never hurt so much)  This week I got the ceilings painted.  So…..now that everything is all fixed up…..I will likely sell.  As much as I don’t want to move; my folks need me.

Anyway….you guys can handle all these political scramblings for a while.   It’s also true that I am weary of some things.

One good update!  I’ve started riding my bike in the mornings.  I’ve been riding for about an hour every morning before work.  Have to say, I do feel better and loving the spring mornings.

(I guess it’s ok for me to hijack my own blog)  Thank you All for engaging in the conversation.    I’ll be around.  I just have too much to handle right now.
