It's a fair question.  Obviously your beautiful, what else.  A man's question about what you bring to the table is a response to the way a man feels he must present his life resume to us for consideration as a partner.  Your intellect, your generosity and your desire to partner up are just a few answers, try seeing the exchange as a currency exchange.  Men are see things in systems; they're inviting you in their way of thinking.

Dallas,

But it seems that the money or interest is in the middle.

Usually a guy asks such a question to a woman that he feels is full of herself...there is a part of him that wants to know the woman because he may find her attractive, but another part of him that dislikes her perceived arrogant's...which is usually associated with beauty.  There are plenty of women on this site that I'd like to ask that question...while there are plenty more that seem very sweet that I wouldn't dare.  Just my 2 cents for what it's worth...probably a penny. :)

Or it could be a method to gain dominance because he is a controlling S.O.B.

yeah, i also find it a hassle to deal with women who have high self esteem.better to bring them down a notch than to better myself [sarcasm]

Dak~

Of course it's about power and dominance.  That's all they think 'they' need to "bring to the table" and for some women that's enough.  Neither have a clue how to make love.  He makes love to his money, while she makes love to his credit card.  Both have an empty cavity in their chest.

IMO, this is also why some men are anti-reproductive rights.  It's more of an economic issue than anything else for them, because if a woman can not control when or how many babies she has....she can not effectively participate in the work force.  It's a way for men to maintain economic power and dominance.

Dallas - Your comment made me laugh! No you do not attract a*holes, there are just too many of them in circulation these days. LOL!

I have never been asked that question, though. If I ever get asked, I will give a list of menu and direct him to the nearest restaurant that has those on offer. What a tacky question?!

Sarah - Being a teacher is more than enough in my book! I adore my high school teachers without whom I wouldn't have become the solid, well-adjusted, honest individual that I am today.

thats what i used to do, ask them what they meant.the answer would always be something like "well i make the millions, now what do you bring to the table?".

:-(

maybe i have been here too long.i refuse to give up,though.i know he is out there

Hey Dallas---

This being the case.... I woud suggest sticking with your and Lady DI's original response of, "What exactly do you mean?"

And THEN, if he shoots back with "Well, I make millions." Then just politely say, as our Lovely LULU stated,

"Yes, well I bring everything to the table money CAN'T by... The first of which is "CLASS."

HI ladies! ;)

Hmmmm.....ok...I've never had a man say anything like that to me ....but I would be inclined to say something like:

"Hah...that's a funny one!  And then you guys wonder why you get used for money with attitudes like that."

Hey Dallas,

Well, 5 times is a lot for the guys to use the same line...but I have had my fair share of @ssholes too.  I actually terminated a first date and walked out because he was so rude.

But what I was going to say before I read the 5 times part, was not to assume that he means it be rude.   When I get a question like that....I typically answer with a question.  Like:  "What do you mean?"  That gives me some time to think about my next response.  I keep probing for his meaning, which usually makes him uncomfortable to speak his intention aloud, if it's malevolent.  Depending how he responds.....if it's the wrong response, I act surprised that he.....(typicallly being a southern raised, supposed gentleman) is so commonly bred and raised.

I have to say no guy has ever asked me that but does sound quite abrupt. One time when I was in Jersey a guy asked me what I did for a living so I explained that I was a primary school teacher. He replied is that all you want to be? I was thinking - why is that not good enough for you. lol I don't think he meant it to be offensive. He was just a very ambitious type. Not that I'm not but right now I'm happy to be a teacher.

Sarah :-)
