Im sick to death of seeing certain commercials on weight loss programs and items that make such irresponsible statements. On more than one of them Ive heard the woman say "I was a size 8/10 but NOW Im a svelt size 4" Are you kidding me??? Since when is it not acceptable to be a size 8/10? Or a size 12 or a size 14?? What kind of message does this send our young girls when they see this total "CRAP" on TV? No wonder the women in this country have such problems with eating disorders and self esteem. Why cant we just be comfortable with our weight as long as theres no health issues involved? Why must the media try to make us feel bad for what we look like or who we are?

I dont need to look at a chart. I am within my BMI. The issue is how these ads influence young girls and women in how they see themselves and how they think society sees them. As a mature adult, I know better... but they dont.

I wholeheartedly agree but would have to say that those commercials will continue to spew their propoganda in the same fashion until people stop watching. Trouble is, the TV is the most efficient electro-babysitter of the 21st century along with computers, game consoles, and anything else parents and purchase one time to keep their kids preoccupied and off their backs. I've seen it far too many times and even my best friend does this . . . it's sad and it only perpetuates this culture. It won't change until society does which is showing no sign of letting up anytime soon. =( I love my TiVO!! Commercials are a thing of the past!

Proper weight also depends on your height and body type. If you're 4'11 and you're a size 10, you may be on the meaty side. If you have a slender body type and you're a size 10, again, you may be chunky. But, if you're 5'10 and a size 10, that's fine. If you're 5'10 and medium build and a size 10, again, fine. I am 5'7 with a medium build but I have always had body image issues since I was 10 years old (yes, 10. Ridiculous, isn't it, thanks to society).

Because now "emaciated thin" is in. I was overweight, but was so excited when I made it to size 8. I have a large bone frame, and the only way I'll get to a "svelte size 4" is if I'm 6 feet under for several months. Nicole Richie skinny is SO not hot. I think women like Tyra Banks have an ideal shape.
