Another Poem - 'When You Can't Pray' 48 Views 09/21/11
This one is also on audio set to music. I know it's an intense poem but when it rains, it pours, i.e., a floodgate. The 'cocaine tears' are strictly a metaphor. I've never touched the stuff. Thanks for letting me share. Think of me when you can't pray When you shed blood the color of cocaine Sniffed up what was meant for the sweet scent of begonias And days gone by Where there once was light You tiptoe in darkness When there is no night Sun streaming through stained glass windows Untainted, like the church your mind belongs to When you look through the other side See God high above Hovering in a sky you dreamt of as a child Stars innumerable to name Immeasurable to count Impossible to wish on Like coins in a fountain They fall too fast Too far But God lives high in that sky, doesn't he? Or just over that mountain You're so sure he's on the other side If only you could fly... But you can't So you climb in bed Where dreamers are geniuses Nursery rhymes dance in heads destined to poverty or greatness Dependent on where you’re born And how you're bred If you're lucky You bleed red But when you can't pray When you bleed white Think of me When you faint and ask yourself, 'is it worth the fight?' All this pain for a sacred sky Shotgun stars Rhyming lines that will never be what we are I've never known what lies behind that mountain Or the stars when they fall I've missed them all Counting coins in a bottomless fountain Looking through stained glass in my mind I'm reminded that as time moves Sorry is harder to say Blood turns white Transparent as windows And water dancing beneath silver moonlight and otherwise vacant skies And I can't pray What will you see when eyes hold eyes in captivity? Will you think of me? When rain forms quotation marks around itself Falling in streaks defacing the tracks of my tears What will you hear? When days come like dragons Breathing fire into this dull, aching pain Hot on the heels of an afterglow in flight What will you feel? When in hand to hand combat Wrestling the night The demons we denounce Wear out their welcome Decide to stay What will you say? Think of me when you can't pray? Show your face, you cowardly fool This see through soul you so cleverly covet Is sinking like a ship Going down Right there In your backyard pool I need you now Not words Vacuous and faint I need arms of steel Breath of flame I need to feel what you claim will save me For all time Damn the sultry looks and dirty rhymes You use to seduce me Into believing you're real Back it up or put the bible away I kneel down every night Look to the sky Remember what you say Hear your voice Like echoes down a canyon wall See your eyes Intense as sapphire under moonlight Feel your touch Tender as a baby's first cry But I need shudders and thunder and crimson When you prick me, I bleed white Cry cocaine tears Tiptoe in darkness When there is no night Look through stained glass in my mind Futily count coins in a bottomless fountain Miss each and every falling star Stare at a mountain Swear that's where you are Just on the other side If only I could fly But I can't So I climb in bed But first kneel down Look to the sky And I try… Funny, as time moves Sorry is harder to say Instead Think of me when you can't pray

Another Poem - 'Profoundly' - this one about passionate love 30 Views 09/21/11
Profoundly I believe in love Like wind through a tunnel fiercely forcing its weight out the other side Feeling its heat while contained The whoosh and the swirl out of our control, wild, restless, unrestrained To breathe hard Exhale Only to find it whipping the tides in waves Moving earth, toppling sails through seas into the dark Not releasing to stillness until its time Then relentlessly making its way back again Eyes big at the infusive mystery of its powerful sky Oh to love like that I believe in affairs of the heart And in things I can’t see If I lost my faith in theology, I would still believe in God If I lost my faith in my lover, I would still believe in love The severest bondage or beating of my past could never disturb the rhythm of that triangular unity Spiritual, emotional, physical symbiosis As I believe the moon and the sun come together To create one perfect day I believe we are meant to merge from two to one In the play by play of craze and passion I do not believe in passivity I believe in a lover that understands me From the beat of my heart To the breath of my poetry I do not believe it comes in neatly wrapped packages It is messy, untamed To get my hands dirty for another Through kiss or kindness for the sake of kindling To ignite a spark that climbs to flame that peaks to fire I would gladly suffer time and again Aspire to those throes Those tears, those highs, the lows The anticipation, even the fears Only lovers find fortune to know I believe in saying what is on my mind Unhampered by intimidation or dread I will lie down for love only Never will I remain silent, still, in darkness Or play dead…for such lovers that ask Shall politely be dismissed To mistakenly leak ‘I love you’ in the heat of passion Or to say it and mean it every time To listen and be listened to and have it matter Though it may be torn, battered, bruised or indisposed And sometimes, so posed from past ache Love is abused But no losing proposition Finding it in forms of fragility To uncover wounds festering, yearning, dying For the arms, the strength of one To satisfy the quiet or the quenched or the drowned To escape suffocation from the staleness and sterility

Speak To Me 81 Views 09/20/11
A poem I wrote several years ago, also called 'Communication Breakdown'. Speak to me I want to know what Makes you smile Makes you cry Makes you laugh Makes you sigh Tell me how you feel when a sunset touches the earth Kisses it Descends Then retires Do you watch it all the way? Do you blush at new love? Or ache for the one that got away? Does the color red incite your anger? Or your fire? What inspires you? Could love bring you to your knees? How long would you stay? Forever? A day? What takes your breath away? Where did your innocence go? Somewhere, deep down, below the mass of insecurities that permeates your inhalations Can you taste it? First kiss Sweet, wet, untouched But longing to be Pink flesh Cool skin Warmed one degree at a time By your touch Simplicity taken by surprise Shocked into a web Never-ending Long fingers caressing the cleft of a chin Raised, anchored, ready Lips licked In anticipation Anxiety What would you give to get that back? Just for one day When you witness the abandon of nature Storms gone mad Trees swaying back and forth Then whipped into frenzy Do you envy the frenetic wisp of the will? Do you wish to be overtaken? Do you wish to be loved to death? Do you stay alone? In confines of four, six or eight walls Exquisite entrapments of the beautiful showplace You call home Do you keep your door locked? Bolted Or, cracked open ever so slightly? Just in case… Do you reach for scents of the past? Old photos Mother's perfume Grandma's lace Do you bury your face in them? Do you wish it back? Do you care about time continuum? Or live for the moment? Are you honest with others? Are you honest with yourself? Be honest… When you dream, is it in color? Or black and white? Would you like to grow wings? Set off in flight Be free Do you tell yourself it's hard? When it's easy Are you scared to death? Are you intimidated by what you don't understand? Do you think you can? Do you pray? Have you lost faith? Or gained understanding? Are you okay? Do you get lost wherever you go? Or are you always in control? Do you ask for directions from strangers? But distrust those you know…and love? Can you love? Do you believe everything happens for a reason? Or mere coincidence? Do you believe in a higher power above? The antithesis below? Which do you think has claimed your soul? Did you want to be a rock star? A hero? A debutante? Do you think you're a zero? A blip on a screen A loser? Or a winner? Do you feel you're a catalyst for good? Or evil? Saint? Or sinner? Would you fake your own death? Disappear? Or take one last breath Fully aware Here Alone? With everyone? Or just one? Would the day be spent washing in spring rain? Under summer sky? Mid autumn leaves? Or atop winter snow? Would your final words be 'I love you'? Or 'Goodbye'? I want to know If only wrong choices weren't made At right times You might be here Mine Together we'd run far, far away Or we'd stay In confines of four, six or eight walls Making love in exquisite entrapments of the beautiful showplace We call home Our door locked Bolted As trees sway out our window I wish to be them I wish to be overtaken I am not yet your lover But with all that I could know Discover Of you Someday maybe I could Love you Speak to me
