I am sorry but after hearing they want to sing the National Anthem in Spanish - enough is enough! No where did they sing it in Italian, Polish, Irish, German or any other language because of immigration. It was written by Francis Scott Key and should be sung word for word the way it was written, the news broadcasts even gave the translation -- not even close. Sorry if this offends anyone but this is MY COUNTRY - IF IT IS YOUR COUNTRY SPEAK UP --- I am not against immigration -- just come through like everyone else. Get a sponsor; have a place to lay your head; have a job; pay your taxes, live by the rules AND LEARN THE LANGUAGE as all other immigrants have in the past.
And Millionaire Match..If you don?t want to post this for fear of offending someone -- You're part of the problem!!!!!

Although the English language as we know it is a bastard language, I think if one wants to be an American, they should be required to know it. On the other hand, I think some natural born Americans should also take a reviewers course. At any rate, I don't think it's fair to "cut the line," or to walk around, talking about how you want to be an American, waving non American flags. I don't wave any flags personally, but if I were, it would be the one with 50 stars and 13 red and white stripes. If I were to go live in another country, I would make it my business to learn the language and/or vernacular.

Being in Professional Sports Managment....It should never happen in the public arena , unless a Mexician sports team enters the field on a professional level...then, ok as a courtesy such as we do with Canada in MLB..

I love blogs that bring out other people's passion about the topic.
I speak english. I read, write and learned in english. Im an American by nationality. Its where I am from. The melting pot schmelting pot. Im sick to death of hearing that. Guess what? I was born in America. Does it really matter where my ancestors originated from? Unless your doing my geneaology why even ask me? I dont speak Irish or German as Im sure my relatives from way back did. I know lots of Mexican/Americans that are of Mexican decent. They dont speak a word of spanish. They were born in the USA. Its not set in stone that english is the only way things are understood and communicated. The majority of our population in the United States speaks our native language of english as their first language. It doesnt mean we're limited to just english.
Whats the problem with offering signs, publications, etc. in other languages as well as english? You read english then grab the english version. Why does everything always have to become a huge ordeal? Are we really so annoyed by seeing and hearing other languages that it suddenly becomes a huge issue? There are hungry, homeless people in every city in our nation. Generate some of that energy you waste on frustration to those who REALLY NEED IT.
You want to sing the National anthem? SING IT! LOUD AND PROUD. lmao! Name 5 people you know that sing another countries national anthem for something to do. NO ONE. If you want to sing our national anthem in Spanish, or any other language thats great! Here are the words. The idea that its open for debate to change the wording of the song is ridiculous.
YOU DO NOT CHANGE THE WORDS TO A NATIONAL ANTHEM BECAUSE YOU FEEL OFFENDED BY THE MESSAGE! IF YOU DONT LIKE IT THEN DONT SING IT. DUH. MAYBE "THIS LAND IS MY LAND, THIS LAND IS YOUR LAND" WOULD BE A BETTER SONG FOR THOSE OFFENDED BY OUR NATIONAL ANTHEM.
Thats my only gripe about the whole topic. Sing it word for word the way its written... in any language you want.
Technically, changing the words creates an entirely different song and wouldnt be able to use the title of "National Anthem" because that title is already taken.
Not sure who said the unemployment rate is at 7%. Just this morning I saw on CNN its at 4.6%. Id venture to guess that 3.0% are employable lazy butts.

Here's part of the requirements if you want to become a US citizen.
- Must have the ability to read, write, and speak English - You must pass basic English and U.S. government/history tests - You must be willing to support and defend the United States and its Constitution. You declare your ?attachment? or loyalty to the United States and the Constitution when you take the Oath of Allegiance. You become a U.S. citizen when you take the Oath of Allegiance (in English).
I have seen some business that are now starting to require that customers converse in English only. (supposely due to the issue concerning illegal immigrants).

Hola browneyedgirl, I am Latin descent, born American..I am proud of my heritage as well as where I was born..I do agree with you, just like my parents "fled" Castro's communist regime legally, others from other country should do the same, It is imperative that all that live here in this great Country of ours have legal status & contribute in the same fashion as we do...it is also important to learn our language, I know that if we Americans travel to other countries we need to take a dictionary to be able to communicate...and as far as our National Anthem in Spanish (I am fluent in Spanish) I would say..NO, NO, NO!!!, it is a disrespect to do this to our Anthem!!, Im sure that if we were to do that to another Country we would have our heads "ripped apart with criticism"...Ours is in English and as such it should stay!!!! I know I'll probably get a ration of crap for the following statemnets, but here I go.
I have to disagree with you about "all other immigrants in the past." Until this year they were never required to learn english, speak english or learn the american way in any way shape or form. As a matter of fact, the majority of the generations before us refuse to learn english to this day (believe me they know more than they let on). I personally think this whole immigration issue is pathetic. So much for the land of the free. Furthermore, it's not just spanish and it's not just the latino's. I choose to ride the bus into work and I can tell you that I am quite the minority in every aspect, including the language I speak. BUT, we don't make THOSE cultures abide by our rules, and yet THEY can come in and take all the HIGH paying jobs over the Americans. The jobs the americans will be passed over to let an immigrant work. Then be forced to work the lower paying jobs with the NON-english speakers.
Rather than sending jobs overseas, let's knock this 7% unemployment rate down by sending them ALL home and letting the americans work in their own country?
Don't get me wrong, I fully support having them here... ONLY if it means american born workers who are just as capable don't get passed over by a foreigner. As for the language issue.... I don't see what the big deal is unless you're trying to do business. I can't tell you how many times I have called customer service and been sent to India where I can't understand a bloody word. Why is my call being sent overseas (I know, it simply makes no sense) to save a couple of dollars, when it's acutally not because of the lack of efficiency of dealing with a person overseas who really doesn't speak english well in the first place. How does THAT save money?
Anyhow, I would rather work with people here and help them acclimate to our environments and language, but MAKE them learn... You can't MAKE them do anything they don't care to do and you can't impose civil liberties upon them stating they have to.

We sing our National Anthem in two languages. There is nothing wrong with it really. They start to teach the children how to sing it in both languages from kindergarten. Actually if you look at history, the National Anthem as well as your langugage could have been Spanish or French instead of English. Technically speaking unless you are native american you are an immigrant. That is what makes America so great. We are all a melting pot of immigration. I don't think what you are upset about is the language issue. It's more about the abuse of the system by some. I am with you completely on those who abuse the system and in turn abuse our rights. There I agree.. come through and do it properly.

Hey BrownEyedGirl.... WELL SAID! If we don't stand up and speak up, before we know it this will be the United States of Mexico.
I am tired of all the spanish speaking and Mexican flag waving. Either you want to be an American or you don't. If you do then come here legally, speak ENGLISH and assimilate.
Thanks for the post. ;-)
