Post your favorite sunrise or sunset!  Personal photography only ---- no internet photos copied and pasted please.  Show your eye and skills with your camera! Also post info on the camera you used and location.

Plan to take a picture of the Sunrise/Sunset on the same day and post them!

I'm looking forward to seeing your photos!  MY first post is a photo of the sunrise over Cobb Island with the chanel marker to the jetty illuminated. Taken 11/24/2012  Look for tonight's sunset from the same location.

The last photo is also of Haleakala which is a dormant volcano. About 10,000 feet up, a long drive up but it's worth it.  With the 2 other photos I posted, where you see the clouds BELOW the sunrise, if the clouds weren't there, you would have seen craters instead as you are looking into the volcano.

The second time we tried to see the sunrise we couldn't see it because of the fog, we also got wet because we were literally in the clouds.

I've been up on Pele on the Big Island.  Same thing --- the water vapor in the clouds soak you!

Hi AVIEW.....

Yes, working on the vessel was an awesome experience! Nothing beats being on the water! It was fun, but honestly not really a place for a Princess... (Yes, I AM Blog-ville's very own Princess! LOL)

I've been as far our as about 170 miles I think. Once I climbed the mast and a crew boat passed by and let me just say.... THE HIGHER UP YOU ARE, THE MORE THAT POLE SHAKES! I sat on the light! I admit.. I was scared for a minute! LOL...

Thanks for the positive blog here. Some gorgeous pictures for sure! :)

Thanks for sharing Hoping!  There is a thrill to being up on a mast. I had similar experences as a young man as I worked my way through college as a union steel worker on skyscrapers.  Paid for my education!!

Thank-you for your comments, I hope you all can see it for yourself someday.  The sunrise was like liquid gold over the horizon, so beautiful that even an atheist may believe in God after witnessing it ;)

Is that on Maui or the Big Island?

Haleakala is on Maui.  I would love to visit it again.  The best restaurant is also on that island, Mama's Fish House.

We were in Maui and I heard the sunrises were beautiful over Haleakala but I had no idea that I was about to see one of the most beautiful sites of my life.  The photos are not mine, I actually have a few better ones tucked away of the sunrise itself.  The Maui Observatory is located up at the top so you should pay it a visit while you're up there. They also have a site where you could use their pics.

If you find yourself on Maui, it is worthwhile to get up early (2 or 3am) and take the drive 10,000 feet up to see the sunrise. Haleakala is a dormant volcano and once the sun starts to rise, you can see craters that look like the Moon's surface. I heard that Astronauts have practiced there because it is similar to the moon's surface. Also try to go earlier during your trip because some days will be fogged over and you may want a second chance to catch the most spectacular sunrise ever  There are bike tours where you can ride a bicycle down once you've seen the sunrise.

December 21st. is the winter solstice -- the sun will be at it's lowest angle of the year. Sunsets at this time of the year are especially beautiful because of the angle and distance light must travel through the atmosphere before it meets the eye!  This produces great colors and cloud reflections.  If you are seeing great sunsets take a picture and share it with us on Sunrise/Sunset!

OMG MTSUNNY and AVIEW...

What beautiful pictures!!

AVIEW... I think it was a sunset.. But not certain.. But I was just in awe of the beauty that surrounds even back wood kind of places like Louisiana. I will tell you NOTHING compares to sunset or sunrises when one is on the water with nothing but sky and water surrounding you. I would lay on the back deck of the supply vessel while cruising warped speed (about 13 knots!! LOL) and soak in the beauty of the stars and sky as well....

Thank you for a wonderful blog! So glad you made it to where we could post.

MTSUNNY.. I have always wanted to go to Colorado!! BREATHTAKING!!

You're right Hoping,

There is nothing like being out to sea with sunrises and sunsets! It's interestiing that you worked on a boat!  I think in my first life I salied with the explores and rounded the cape many times!  I love astronomy and often look at the planets with my telescope when they are in view! I think I was a navagator in my previous life on the early sailing ships that explored the New World. I don't believe in reincarnation but I am drawn to the water. I like your pictures up on the mast!

You're more than welcome to use any of my photos on this page for painting (only)! The only thing ----you have to show me your painting!  Agreed?------M

Aviewfortwo,

Agreed, except I meant canvas print, not painting. I guess the photograph took my breath away, and I became inarticulate, LOL! Sure, I will definitely show you when it is done! These sunsets are simply heavenly!
