Show us what you make!  Show your creativity!  Tell us how you got interested in what you make!

Last winter I decided to do something with the beach glass and oyster shells I've collected on the beahes along the lower Potomac River.  I purchased a drill press with diamond bits and started making bracelets. As I sorted through my treasures I realized I needed to find specific glass (color) in greater quanties in order to create individual bracelets. This winter I'll be using real pearles in the bracelets. I have an expert buyer who goes to China and Japan where some of the nicest loose pearles in the world can be purchased -----my SISTER! She has been a flight attendent with a major international airline for over 40 years. When I showed her my beach bracelets I quickly found out she is an expert pearl appraiser! I had no Idea? So, she schooled me and I put in my orders!  All of the braceletss in my pictures have plastic pearls. The glass is all naturally worn on a beach (no tumbling) and theoyster shells are also a product og nature. I've found searching for the treasures on the beaches and making bracelets is very relaxing!

What do you make?-----

M...have you done any more work on your boat or did you put it away for the winter?  I have another photo of a window I did for a church, it is 6 ft by 26 ft.

Mtns:  I have put it up for winter but expect to uncover it in March.  Almost finished.  That's a nice stained glass!

The purple color glass was originally clear glass.  It turned purple because it contains Manganese that was added to the glass to increase clarity.  The Manganese truns purple from long exposure to UV light---like on a beach!  The blue green and purple are my favorite colors.

You never cease to amaze me...you truly are a talented and gifted man.  We have done some canning in our family, but it's been awhile since I have tried my hand at it.

Just wondering why nobody has snatched you up M.

You're funny Mtsunny!  Hmmm that rhymes!

Oh Sugar! I can't remember the last time I made anything. I used to paint and I won a few awards back in those bygone days....but I just don't have the time these days! Hmmm...that's got me thinking now. I would probably return to my love of painting.

Your bracelets are gorgeous!

Liv.

Livniov:

Thank you!  You should start painting again! There is always time for something as relaxing as painting!

Hi Aviewfortwo,

Lovely, lovely, bracelets! Great idea, and I hope you sell a boatload of them.

The things I'm known for making are things like book covers and logos. You may have seen some of my work, but...... it's confidential here on MM so I can't show them to you. ;-D..... BeWell.

Thanks Bewell!

Interesting!  Are you a designer?   You must have something you've designed or made that you can post?

Be Well,

Hello, I like your bracelets :) I am curious about the glass. So where do you find the little pieces of glass?  Do you find them all over in the sand or what? In the shallow water?  Do you find them only at a particular site?

The answer to your question about what I make. It's pretty random stuff so I can't claim to make something as a hobby or profession.  Right now I am making an Advent wreath. It's for the Christmas observance of 4 weeks.  You don't hang it against something, you lay it down flat on a surface or hang it facing the ceiling.

I am usually embellishing or recycling something that I bought instead of making something from scratch.  Maybe one of these days I will post a photo of something I've worked on.

I love the braclets...they are beautiful, a gift from the sea.

Stain glass windows have been a main stay, but I also enjoy taking wine bottles and turning them into beautiful night lights.  People who have a special wine they shared...the bottle is a wonderful lighted memory.

Your stained glass is really nice and changes the lighting in the room when it's sunny! A friend of mine make a lot of stained glass in the 70's.  That is not easy to due!  Nice job----  I like the glass balls in the wine bottles. Nice! Thanks for sharing!

I have a small beach on my property. I find the glass in among the shells and sand on the beach.  There are many of these beaches on thelower Potomac River. I live on the lower Potomac River. It is salt water because it joins the Chesapeake Bat and Atlantic Ocean! You should post a picture of your wreath!

M

Well that is convenient, the beach is right outside your door!!   Also your sister being able to help you with the pearls.  Sounds like you could make an abundance of them and start selling :)
