The Falklands
90 Views          04/09/12
I had a debate with a friend the other day about the Falklands.

My stance is that I support the views of the people who live on the island. They have been settled there for around 170 years. 90% of the population are British or of British decent. They want to be under British rule and I believe they voted that recently.

Argentina argues the land although 800 miles away from them belongs to them and argue that Britain should be ashamed of their colonial past and hand back their island. David Cameron fired back at Argentina by stressing that with Argentina wanting to take over the Falklands regardless of the islanders views is Colonialism. Apparently the history of the island is not even as clear cut as that. Argentina originally had a hold of the island. Then they left. Then Britain arrived followed by the Argentinian garrison. All though I guess that is all very subjective.

My main point is that I feel Argentina do not care much for the island or of the opinions of the people who have lived there for over 150 years. Their real interest is the oil.

I'm in support of the people who live on the island. They want British rule so they have British support

I also feel that Argentina need to look at the country they already have, Seems to be an awful lot of corruption that stems there. Even the Argentinians say the current Falklands campaign is taking focus off the countries economic problems.

So what are your thoughts?

The Love of Music

I'm loving Jack Savoretti's new single- "knock knock". That's the last song I downloaded. Amazing voice and yet he is still doing small gigs. I can't imagine that will be for long.

Also I'm loving Emeli Sande's album especially the song "Next to me." Incredible! Actually nearly every song in that album is incredible!

Also from Snow Patrol's latest album, the songs- "Called out in the dark" and This isn't everything you are."

So what songs/ artists do you really love listening to at the moment?

Are bugs the future?
130 Views          03/08/12
So apparently there will not be enough meat to feed the future population. They claim meat will become a luxury item that only the rich can afford. They say insects will be our future source of protein.

I have to say I prefer the vegetarian option. haha. There is no fear I am eating insects. However people eat insects abroad and seem to enjoy them. I guess we eat things like prawns. crab and lobster and that’s probably the equivalent to eating a scorpion and a spider and other bugs. Although I don't eat prawns, crab or lobster :-p They have been introducing insects in food over here in some far out restaurants, novelty lollypops and in some ready meals. :-p

The alternative option may be lab meat. They have starting growing meat in laboratories. So a test tube burger may also be the future. I'm not really sure we should be messing around with food like that.

So what are your thoughts?

Appointment
190 Views          02/20/12
So my mum and I have an appointment with the consultant who was dealing with my dad after we sent in a letter of complaint. Not even sure if there is any purpose to this appointment. The consultant will just waffle on defending her actions and nothing will be done. That is pretty much the guaranteed outcome.

We basically voiced in the letter how my dad felt. We were never given proper information about pancreatic cancer. What it realistically meant. We were given false hope. After my dads op he was told he stood a GOOD chance if he went on the chemo therapy trial. So we were led under this false illusion that going through this treatment meant my dad stood a good chance. This was not the truth. If we had of been properly informed about pancreatic cancer we could have made a proper informed decision. My dad even said he would have never gone through with the chemo if he knew the reality of his chances.

It was also a long time between scans and my dad was in pain and they kept on saying to take these pain killers which were no good. He should of been on morphine at that point but we didn't know. We were thinking he was still suffering the after effects of chemo. We were even trying to get a hold of a dietician thinking he was eating the wrong food which was impossible.

When he did get the scan results two weeks prior to his death that’s when he was started on morphine. That was also the week we got a hold of a dietician which was pointless.

We lacked information, understanding. It wasn't until my dad had died that I came across the pancreatic cancer website which holds a wealth of information. I just wish I had found it sooner. I just didn't know anything about the cancer. I never dreamed it would be something my dad wouldn't survive.

Also after the scan results my dad was sent home. A week later he was told they just noticed after checking the scan he had blood clots on his lungs. Why was that not picked up sooner? He went for a week without treatment, without that being realised.

The overall point really is people should not be abandoned after initial treatment, scans should be more regular, more information should be provided, people should be given accurate, honest information so that they can make informed decisions about the course of treatment. My dad put his faith in these doctors and they let him down. He suffered needlessly through chemo when he was only going to have months to live anyway. To me that seems unethical.

My mum was going to go on her own but there is no way I was going to allow my lovely mum to have to deal with this lady.

So we are all aliens!!! ;-)
122 Views          02/03/12
So I was watching a program about Asteroids. Three thousand new asteroids are identified each day and there are currently around 900 near earth. It was believed that we really needed to be concerned with asteroids that were 1km in size but now they believe that smaller ones can be as powerful as a nuclear bomb. Also smaller ones are harder to detect and are usually not spotted until they are about to impact.

The program also discussed of a recent asteroid type that was spotted, a one containing a tail. As most other asteroids just looked like a fast moving dot. At first they believed it was caused by a collision. However they soon realised after tracing the asteroids path that this was unlikely to be the case. They then worked their computer magic which looks at the structure of the asteroid and identified what it was made out of and what was causing the tail which they seem certain is ice.

They were also talking about the beginning stages of earth when the land was mostly molten rock and extremely dry. Where did our water come from? It is believed to have come from an asteroid made of ice. They believe the starting blocks that made life possible came from an asteroid.

So there you go, we are all aliens!

I do love going to the theatre when I can.

Does anyone have any favourite shows?

Pancreatic Cancer
465 Views          11/25/11
On Sunday my dad lost his year long battle with Pancreatic Cancer. He was so brave throughout.

I never thought my dad would die so soon. I assumed the chemo would work and he would have a few more years. However, I was not knowledgeable about pancreatic cancer. I'm not sure why I didn't even look it up. My parents had shielded me from the truth of the disease.

Its only now the truth unravels. My mum told me my dad almost died last November when he first fell ill with jaundice. They were waiting in A&E for a couple of hours and just as he was being seen to he crashed out. They brought him back to life.

By the time you get signs for pancreatic cancer it is already too late. My dad was lucky enough to be at the borderline stage so he could actually have an operation to remove the mass which also involved removing part of his pancreas.

After loosing a lot of weight in hospital he did bounce back for a month I think. Then he was told by the specialist that he should have chemo. They were trialling a drug that had been very effective for breast cancer. The doctor said to my dad he had a very good chance. So he endured hell on earth with chemo. Then it stopped as my dad was becoming terribly ill. It continued even when the chemo had stopped. It was then when my dad asked another doctor of the chances the chemo would be effective. They told him 10%.

My dads weight continued to drop dramatically for months. He had this complan shakes with all the nutrients. Food tasted metallic to him and food was just passing through him. We kept thinking it was the after effects of chemo. After all that stuff poisons your body.

Two weeks ago my dad went for a scan. He managed to walk along the ward to see the doctor. He was told that the cancer had spread to the liver and lymph glands. My dad had asked if he would still be here next year. The doctor said no. All that could be done was to take morphine for the pain.

So my dad was adamant he wanted to die at home not in a hospital. I might explain that more in another blog. So we phoned and arranged to have everything set up for him at home and nurses came each day.

My dad decided to phone all his friends to let them know and to say goodbye. Some came to visit which meant so much to him.

The last two weeks showed rapid deterioration. The stairs became an olympic event for my dad. He struggled but wanted to chat with his guests in the conservatory. That was on tuesday. He did that last trick on wednesday but he collapsed and mum and I had to help him to bed. He stayed in bed after that for visitors. He started to have trouble with the morphine. He wanted to taked the oral liguid kind as opposed to tablets as he felt at least he could control the pain than with a tablet it was just one in the morning and one at night. He didn't want to be out of it all day. At night he had terrible pains. His dosage was increased.

The Saturday was the worst. Hearing my dad in agony like that was just awful. I was of the conclusion, if that was me I'd rather be shot. Apparently my dad had said the same sort of phrase to my brothers when talking of the pain. So the doctor came and gave him a long lasting dosage of morphine. He was completely out of it. He was very restless and kept almost falling out of bed as he moved. Then his breathing became heavy. Then he rolled over onto my mums pillow and seemed amazingly comfortable. Then he passed away.

It was such a shock. I just couldn't believe he had gone. This week just feels so unreal. So terrible, so awful, so unfair, so unbelievably sad. I feel so sorry for my poor mum too. They had been married for 41 years and my dad told her how much he loved her and that he didn't want to leave her. I promised dad I would make sure mum will be ok.

I have now been looking up info on pancreatic cancer. The lack of funding for this research area. There has be no advanced in this area in the last 30 years. 98% of people die. Most live 3-9 months. Luckiest a year or two. Steve Jobs, Pavarotti, Patrick Swayze all died of Pancreatic Cancer. Nobody knows what causes it. You can be old, young, male or female, healthy, unhealthy. The cancer just strikes and soo aggressively. No matter how rich you are there is no cure. More needs to be done. I found a charity called Pancreatic Cancer UK. It launched in 2010 and is dedicated to finding a cure to help people live longer or survive. There is also an American version too. So from now on my charity shall go towards that. More needs to be done with this form of cancer. So many lives are wasted and taken away by this cruel and aggressive disease. It needs to stop and the only way to do this is to help support such charities so that they can concentrate their focus to this area. Look at breast cancer, with more awareness , funding, campaigning people are surviving. This needs to happen for Pancreatic Cancer too.

Big Changes

So this has been an interesting week for me.

The teaching market has been pretty stiff this last year which resulted in me working in a private nursery. Not quite ideal experience but I love the place, the children, the team. A first class environment and an excellent place to work. I was also on the supply list for teaching but it just wasn't successful. They had the method of sending txts out and it was a case of 200 people jumping to their phones and whoever got there first. I was working so it was rare getting an opportunity.

I decided to ask a local primary school if I could do some voluntary work which they are over the moon about. Its an excellent school and they know me. The head teacher seems to have taken me under her wing and more or less told me this is the way in to a job. So no matter what I'm staying there. I'd be so lucky to get an opportunity like that.

I was also reinterviewed for supply work again. The council have changed their methods. So I've had a couple of head teachers phone me up offering work opportunities. One I had to decline as it required too much time alongside university. The other I've accepted which is a full day each week and I also get to work as a class teacher in an autism class. Feel so lucky as I've chosen autism as an area for my masters dissertation.

So I shall be a busy bee. Voluntary, supply teaching, nursery, university and shall try to make weekends for my lovely boyfriend. Wish I could afford a car as that would be soo useful right now. However, we can't always have it all.

So I went on a date today. I was slightly apprehensive as with my last dating experience the guys photo didn't accurately match. However, this time I was in luck. He was gorgeous. In my head I was like- yey!

We met for a coffee (all very civilised)and had a chat. He seems really nice and quite likes me too. So a successful date overall.

So shall see where this goes...

I actually got sucked into watching this program which surprised me as I could not stand the characters in the California version. I think the only two people I genuinely like are Jill and Bethany. However, there is so much falseness in the show with lots of back stabbing. Makes you wonder is that what they really perceive as friendship. The arguments are usually over the most pathetic issues. Makes we want to scream WHOOOO CARES?? There are so many more important issues in the world. I guess some people never mentally mature.

Jersey

So I went over to Jersey (channel islands) last weekend to visit my big bro. He has been living there for a few years now but haven't had the chance to go over. I must say I was expecting the place to be small and quiet but it is actually pretty large and fairly busy too.

The weather was lovely. I discovered my bro has some gorgeous friends. I also did a bit of exploring, went to the zoo, Elizabeth Castle, Mont Orgueil Castle, checked out the Jersey War Tunnels and also attended a summer ball. It was a really fab weekend. The food is amazing over there too. The competition is high so they only serve the best and doesn't have to cost the earth either. Will have to visit bro more often now. :-)

Verification
130 Views          07/20/11
I do sometimes get requests to verify my age or photo but I just don't do it. I know who I am and yes until you meet me you will never be 100% sure. However what would be the point in pretending to be something you are not? It would just mean looking like an idiot when you met. Plus I would have selected a better photo lol I've never come across any other site which asks this, although thats probably down to the people this site sometime attracts.

For people who know me here, they know who I am from other sites such as . Although I only add people I can trust there as obviously all my friends are on there.

So I shall remain unverified and highly suspicious. lol

Well the Bon Jovi concert was brilliant as always. He always puts on a great show and performs his best no matter what day or how tired he must be doing this two year world tour. They are sooo wanted here! It's my Life,I'm Keeping the Faith & Living on a Prayer ;-)

Also the red arrows flew over my house which was amazing to see. They were doing a display for the Royal Highland Show in Edinburgh and must have decided to jet off round the surrounding areas.

Running!
111 Views          06/18/11
So I have decided to return to my long lost hobby. It was a talent of mine in my younger years which slipped away whilst at uni. I made an attempt a couple of years ago by joining a jogging club. However only me and the instructor turned up. The first run was 3 miles and I wasn't wearing proper running trainers and I basically hurt my ankle badly. So that was the end.

So I've finally made up my mind to start running again. This time I've paid a fortune on all the gear so there is no opting out. So I'll be going on my run this week just on my own. Then build up the distance from there. My oldest bro has been doing half marathons and is looking very fit so thought I want to get super fit again. Some people assume being thin is fit but that's not the case.

Out of the loop.

Not posted in a while. Update: had to put my gorgeous cat down which was very sad. He was almost 21 so lived till a good age. Miss his cuddles.

Also got my results back for my research proposal for my masters project. Not overly impressed by the C grade. I thought my work was better than that and my tutor in prior meetings gave me the impression I was doing well. However after reading the feedback from my results it seems she failed to mention many things to me. I'm not born with the gifted knowledge in how to present projects like this. That's the whole point in a tutor, to provide guidance. If it was up to me I'd fire her and choose another tutor but she is running the course and the only person I can have. Just doesn't give me much reassurance when carrying out my big dissertation. I don't like to scrape through things, I like to do well. I wouldn't want a masters grade as just a pass. My grades are usually A- B. So if anyone is experienced in research projects at masters level or higher and wouldn't mind being my alternative tutor please contact me. :-)

Anyway on a lighter note Bon Jovi concert next week. :-)

Sarah :-)
