i go to a music video audition. the band is 1 african guy & 1 white guy.the director is impressed, says that i am perfect for the role.i leave happy.

i get a call later saying that the record company picked another woman, though the director wanted me.they said i could have a smaller role for 1/3 of the pay.i am upset but i say yes,i want to see what kind of blonde white woman got the role(because that's how the world is).

i show up on set, ready.there are 4 white women with leading roles & 1 ethnic woman(black/white mixed, looked like a very pale, jewish mariah carey).these are the girlfriends.they pick out a blonde, white woman to be the girlfriend of the african man.none of these women are especially beautiful,no 10s,barely 7s.i am not impressed.

the director asks the blonde to kiss the african on the cheek & she looks like he asked her to eat feces.the african comes closer to kiss her on the cheek & she moves her head away & frowns.

i am the only black woman on set(they hide jewish mariah & i in the corner so blondie can shine). eh.i have paid my dues & never again will i subject myself to such nonsense.

now i dont have a tv but i will ask you this: how many times have you seen the opposite ie a white man wiith a black girlfriend music video?dont say robin thicke. i have never seen such a thing, yet every black man has a white or latin woman on his arm.interracial dating is fine as long as there are no black women. :-(

i am tired, so my rant is over for now.just something to think about.

Quoting 4EverLoyal:

This is the world we live in. Move on!!

I doubt that 'moving on' is actually moving at all, when you make no progress or make no effort to make progress by challenging the status quo!

"This is the world we live in. Move on!!" would not move anything on in the right direction! Not for you and not for anyone else for that matter. When I see a malady, I seek a cure; I may not always succeed, but I try. We shouldn't accept something that is wrong because it is happening - challenge it and make a difference. If our forefathers "Moved on" by stomaching injustice, we all will have no human rights whatsoever. Edmund Burke was so right when he stated that "Evil thrives when a few good men do nothing". Just my humble opinion.

Quoting Dakota35:

Affirmative action is no doubt prejudice and wrong.  It's like pouring water on a drowning man.  All people should be judged on their skills and suability for a position.  Jen, force those blessing to happen.

Thank-you Dakota. It's frustrating when people assume things about others when they have no clue in the world what their lives have been like and why they have certain views. That job was to be a Detroit Police Officer, they hired a black female instead because of affirmative action. My life would have taken quite a different turn had I been hired , it just wasn't my path.

For the record, I was born and raised in Detroit, I didn't move out till I was about 24 yrs. old (way after the White Flight occurred) and literally barely made it out alive. People are either racist or the exact opposite from the Detroit experience, I am not racist and I was never, ever entitled. If anyone thinks that, they are dead wrong.  I refuse to play the victim so i won't get into my sad stories but I do have them.

There are huge arguments to be made about affirmative action, all kinds of people including illegals or kids of illegals are getting entitlements, this isn't the blog for it though. I have to agree with Dakota that U.S. citizens should be judged on skills, suitability and students for their accomplishments.

To Dallas; no, I haven't read Animal Farm so I can't comment on it although I sure have read George Orwell's 1984 and our country is certainly headed that way. We are more like 1984 than many people realize. It's a great book to help people wake up and recognize Big Brother, etc.,  and the times we are living in now and most likely what is in our future.

@dakota35

1 affirmative action has never helped me in any way

2 i was not the one to even bring a.a. up because it is NOT what the original post is about

3 i'm guessing that you think the world is fair & that some people are not given advantages over others because of their skin tone. ok. whatevs. the best person should get the job but since THAT wasnt happening(resumes being thrown out because the name said latasha or jamal), affirmative action started. but, again, there is no a.a. for actors & affirmative action has never affected my life good or bad.i am not owed anything & have worked very hard to get everything i have today.

4 interracial dating IS the minority.duh.nobody said that it wasnt.my problem was that you always see black man/white woman couples presented on the screen.if they had paired me with the white man, heads would have exploded because "why would any man want a black woman"?

100% of the music videos that i have been in(the ones with black artists, black actors)had a latina or mariah carey/amber rose/"octoroon" as the lead girl.90% of the casting notices for black women say mixed, light skin, or good hair(some posted by actual black casting directors).this is not my imagination.no amount of me "working harder" is going to change that. i cannot pull myself up by my bootstraps when they wont even let me in the door.

5 "When any person is given something only because of their race or gender then that is prejudice and racism" yes, that is what happened.if you would have read, you'd have known that.

6 again, the director said that i was perfect for the part & casting director told me that i had been chosen by the director.i never asked for that info, they made sure to tell me because they wanted me to know.i have no idea what the black guy wanted.i DO know that the record company picked out the women.

7 "We just don't seem to complain as long as the unfair is in our favor. " lol.why are you arguing for me?THIS is exactly why the entitled hate affirmative action.

i am not going to explain anything to you.i really do not want to give out more clues so that someone can figure out which band i am talking about.

this blog is to talk of my experiences.being black colors most of what happens to me,not because i am obsessed with racism but because people never let me forget that i am colored.in 2013 you'd think things would be better but it is not.burying your head under the sand will not change peoples minds. i have not gone to your profile but you seem like someone who has never experienced what real racism is like.i could go on(about being called n!gger multiple times, having landlords say they dont rent to my kind of people, etc),but i will stop here & say that your entitlement is showing.

seriously,no more comments about affirmative action because that is not what this is about.if you want to complain about sharing privilege,do it some place else because that convo bores me.

thanks,

The D

Quoting 90210dallas:

i forgot to add:

entitled people hate affirmative action because if they had to compete in a fair playing field they know they would lose.

Dallas, you are walking a double standard line.  On one side you are upset because you feel that white women got a job you deserved but on the other hand you would be okay if the law said you had to be hired for the job based on your gender and/or race.  How can you use affirmative action and fair playing field in the same sentence?  What is fair about giving someone something they didn't earn and basing that giving solely upon gender or race?  If that is the case then maybe the white women deserved the job over you since they would be the minority when viewed as a GF to a black guy.  Isn't that correct?  Wouldn't you agree that interracial dating is still a minority in America?  Can't have it both ways.  When any person is given something only because of their race or gender then that is prejudice and racism.  Life is not fair, nor will it ever be.  From the second we are born life is not fair.  We just don't seem to complain as long as the unfair is in our favor.  It's easy to see and there is no use in explaining further.  Dallas, I'm not writing this to anger you, but only for you to stop and thing about it.

Why don't you explain to us why you deserved to get the job?  Don't use race as a reason...and you can't use prettier...simply because no one can chose to what race they are born, and genetic, to some extent, dictate beauty.  What you can use  is...I am a better actor and/or dancer (site experience) or I have a better body because I hit the gym 6 days a week.  Or I would have been better suited for the part because??? (Maybe from a marketing standpoint)  You have to give us something that shows us you were unfairly excluded for the job.  Something that shows you were more qualified for the part.

And how do you know the black guy in the video didn't tell the director he wanted a white woman to play the part?  It would make sense if the director told you that you were perfect and then you didn't get the part.  Either he is a liar or something changed his mind.  Look at all angles fairly and try to decipher the truth.  Then get pissed and work harder.  Good luck.

It seems to never be fair. I don't believe affirmative action is fair, I am only one of how many who lost a job because of it.  One supreme court judge (before she got the SCJudge job) ruled unfairly for more than one man yet got the highest position she never should have gotten.

Is it fair that students who are the best at their schools don't get scholarships, yet kids of illegal aliens get free schooling?

Sorry OP but nothing hardly seems fair or right in this life. I'm a Christian so it's one reason why I hope I might get blessed later but do I expect it in this life on Earth? No way.

grrrrrrr.. I am not in the industry but I know what I see in the medie reflects your experience. Sorry that happened to you. Don't be discouraged, I know easier said than done :( If you have the time, patience, and energy, be proactive. How you can do that, I'm not sure but try thinking of ways to professionally address and act on the issue. I'm positive you're not the only black women that has faced these obstacles. Sometimes not enough hooplah is made so the issue remains talked about but not addressed, which generates some attention, but unfortunately not enough action. Good Luck!

I'll have to agree.  Why don't these producers/directors keep things closer to the majority of real life.  I don't blame you for being angry.  Don't blame the white women or the "Jewish Mariah"....blame the producer....you may even be able to blame the black guy???
