OLD TRADITIONAL VERSION

The ant works  hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and  laying up supplies for the winter.

The grasshopper thinks the ant is a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away.

Come winter, the ant is warm and well fed.

The grasshopper has no food or shelter, so he dies out in the cold.

MORAL OF THE STORY: Be responsible for yourself!

——————————————————————————

 NEW PROGRESSIVE VERSION

The ant works hard in the withering heat and the rain all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter.

The grasshopper thinks the ant is a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away.

Come winter, the shivering grasshopper calls a press conference and demands to know why the ant should be allowed to be warm and well fed while he is cold and starving.

CBS, NBC, PBS, CNN, and ABC show up to provide pictures of the shivering grasshopper next to a video of the ant in his comfortable home with a table filled with food.

America is stunned by the sharp contrast.

How can this be, that in a country of such wealth, this poor grasshopper is allowed to suffer so?

Kermit the Frog appears on Oprah with the grasshopper and everybody cries when they sing, ‘It’s Not Easy Being Green.’

ACORN stages a demonstration in front of the ant’s house where the news stations film the group singing, “We shall overcome.” Then Rev. Jeremiah Wright has the group kneel down to pray to God for the grasshopper’s sake.

President Obama condemns the ant and blames capitalism for the grasshopper’s plight.

Nancy Pelosi & Harry Reid exclaim in an interview with Larry  King  that the ant  has  gotten rich off the back of the grasshopper, and both call for an immediate tax hike on  the ant to make him pay his fair share.

Finally, the EEOC drafts the Economic Equity & Anti-Grasshopper Act retroactive to the beginning of the summer.

The ant is fined for failing to hire a proportionate number of green bugs and, having nothing left to pay his retroactive taxes, his home is confiscated by the Government Green Czar and given to the grasshopper.

The story ends as we see the grasshopper and his free-loading friends finishing up the last bits of the ant’s food while the government house he is in, which, as you recall, just happens to be the ant’s old house, crumbles around them because the grasshopper doesn’t maintain it.

The ant has disappeared in the snow, never to be seen again.

The grasshopper is found dead in a drug related incident, and the house, now abandoned, is taken over by a gang of spiders who terrorize the ramshackle, once prosperous and once peaceful, neighborhood.

The entire Nation collapses bringing the rest of the free world with it.

MORAL OF THE STORY: If you choose to become a parasite, don’t kill your victim.

We have quite a few "commie" ants here .. and they do bite.  Seems many of our choices are reduced to the lesser of two evils.  I'd go for the ants based on their work ethic.

The ant is busy every time the queen's scouts bring samples of the honey of the land to her. The whole share from the harvest. That looks like a village to me. There is good distribution of the food, and the anxiety of the ant is low. Those grasshopper/locust's kill every food source in it's path, leaving Nature to try to repair the damage, and She is very meticulous.Repairing the plant genetic chain is a continuous process, but more vital now. The Grasshopper drains the land of vital food chain resources, and moves on to other countries to exploit that veracious GREEN appatite. Sound's Republican to me!

Really Diana... You're going to malign the ant over the grasshopper....

The Ant Philosophy

by Jim Rohn

Over the years I’ve been teaching children about a simple but powerful concept – the ant philosophy.

I think everybody should study ants. They have an amazing four-part philosophy, and here is the first part: ants never quit. That’s a good philosophy. If they’re headed somewhere and you try to stop them; they’ll look for another way. They’ll climb over, they’ll climb under, they’ll climb around. They keep looking for another way. What a neat philosophy, to never quit looking for a way to get where you’re supposed to go.

Second, ants think winter all summer. That’s an important perspective. You can’t be so naive as to think summer will last forever. So ants are gathering in their winter food in the middle of summer.

An ancient story says, “Don’t build your house on the sand in the summer.” Why do we need that advice? Because it is important to be realistic. In the summer, you’ve got to think storm. You’ve got to think rocks as you enjoy the sand and sun. Think ahead.

The third part of the ant philosophy is that ants think summer all winter. That is so important. During the winter, ants remind themselves, “This won’t last long; we’ll soon be out of here.” And the first warm day, the ants are out. If it turns cold again, they’ll dive back down, but then they come out the first warm day. They can’t wait to get out.

And here’s the last part of the ant philosophy. How much will an ant gather during the summer to prepare for the winter? All that he possibly can. What an incredible philosophy, the “all-that-you-possibly-can” philosophy.

The ant is busy every time the queen's scouts bring samples of the honey of the land to her. The whole share from the harvest. That looks like a village to me. Is it true that Ayn Rand is still being read by the your generation.  "Atlas Shrugged" and "The Fountainhead" were very popular in the 60's and you couldn't go out anywhere in New York City without seeing a sign saying "Who is John Galt"

Growing up in the 50's novels about dystopian societies was required reading.  I remember reading "1984" and thinking how far away it seemed.  Huxley's "Brave New World" was a page turner and seemed so sci-fi at the time.  Many were made into movies... "Fahrenheit 451", Soylent Green", "Blade Runner".  I guess the "Hunger Games" is the latest example of an invasive government trying to control it's people through fear
.

"Hope and Change" might be the title of the next movie of this particular genre.  It was the rallying cry for a more intrusive government.  Not much has changed and hope is all that remains when reality has stripped away all the other alternatives.

I have not seen Society stop because of this downturn. The Pacific Rim countries slowed in 1998, causing the downturn of 2000. Bush got us ,conveniently into 2 theaters of action; a money drain to the Good Old Boy's of Texas- an,"All in the Family Affair".They must still be gathering, eating Steak, and laughing at that premium money drain of U.S. economic funds. But wait....Not over yet...The 2008 September sting that the Republican President attempted to solve in 3 pages.President's should leave Treasury Gifts in Surplus dollars. America had to finance both wars till 2014,2015. Both sides agreed that a pullout needed time, and a surge might be necessary, in the 2008 debates- Did not work in Iraq; cancelled in Afghan. Most of the bailouts have been bought back. The U.S. Gov't took stock as collateral, and it started rebounding in 2011,2012- They sold high-made money for the Treasury(surplus). Time work's things out. Roc looks at it as a no hope deal. This whole economic trend is based on confidence broken. Hard to win the GPOP(General Public Opinion Pole). Most will give more women a chance to govern in this next election. Trends indicate this. I'm anxious to see Ryan's ideas. It pays to view opines!

That  $48 million spent on that base, in Afghanistan never used, was a command post for the surge, or it seems logical. We definately would have sturred the Cave Ant's in the mount's. Herd em' tword that place, then fence it off.The Phillipeans have 7,000 islands down there. Drop a few, unarmed into that society. They can join the Catholic Culture Club. Rumsfeld did worse. Makes me ansy to think back! SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO :-)LV1
